Pros: thought it was excellent card, i have alway use Ati. i got it for maya 2010. but if your using maya 2010 to 2011 dont buy it, if your planing to upgrade from 2010 to 2011

Cons: wont run with maya 2011. Ati tech suck. not very undrstanding. gone to Nvidia. never run ati every again

Other Thoughts: if your just gping to stay with maya 2010 never upgrade to maya 2011 buy it, but i was i got Nvidia first time. wasted money and end then costing me more money

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card! Outperforms Nvidia in most tests!

Pros: - 1GB GDDR5 memory
- Memory clock is 850 MHz
- 30 bit display
- 800 Stream processors
- 108.8 GB/sec. bandwidth
- Supports High Dynamic Range rendering
- PCIe 2.0
- OpenGL 2.1
- DirectX 10.1
- Shader Model 4.1
- Low idle power consumption - only 151W
- Stereo 3D support
- RV770 Graphics Processor at 750 MHz
- 55nm manufacturing process
- Supports a standard 3-pin stereoscopic output
- Does not require an Extended ATX sized chassis
- Runs very quiet
- Flexible output types
- Very low price point

Cons: - Overkill for most CAD users
- Requires two 6-pin Power Connectors (you need a newer Power Supply)
- Only supports outputs on two displays at any given time

Other Thoughts: In most performance benchmarks, including Tom's, you will find that the FirePro v8700 outperforms the Nvidia FX5600 and FX4800 cards most of the time. In some benchmarks the the v8700 outperforms even the pricey $3K Nvidia FX5800. If you want to pay a lot more for an Nvidia workstation card that does not outperform this one, then knock yourself out. I look at the numbers not the labels.

To answer the gaming question, you do not want to use a gaming card for heavy graphic apps. The reason is that your render times and image accuracy will suffer. In Maya for example, the FirePro V8700 is six times faster in rendering time than a Radeon HD 4870 gaming card.

I have been using and testing this card with Softimage 7.5, Maya 2009, 3ds Max 2010, Vue 7, and Adobe CS4 Master Collection without issues in a 64 bit Vista Ultimate, i7 940 environment. The v8700 is by far the best workstation card you can get for under a thousand bucks!

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: The cost is high but for what it does it is well worth it. Works brilliantly with AutoCADD , Premier, ETC. No driver or compatability issues. This thing blows our 3 SGI workstations out of the water, and we have it running in Vista :)

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: This is NOT a gamers card keep in mind. This is for high end video rendering for movies, televistion, etc...

But darn does it run Call of Duty WaW fast....
250+ FPS
