A category leading product, the AMD FirePro W8000 workstation video card delivers the very best in computational power and performance required in CAD/CAE and Media & Entertainment environments. It's based on the AMD's latest 28nm Graphics Core Next architecture and equipped with 4GB GDDR5 frame buffer, offering up to 4.5 times faster single precision compute performance and 1.5 times more memory bandwidth than competitive solutions. For 3D workloads, its GeometryBoost feature makes quick work of triangles, processing 1.8 billion per second, up to 1.5 times more than the competing product. Using AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology, the AMD FirePro W8000 can drive up to four native displays and up to six displays using DisplayPort 1.2. Along with advanced features such as error correcting code (ECC) memory and 806 GFLOPs of double precision floating point performance, the FirePro W8000 makes an ideal choice for HPC workflows.

  • newegg Top Class Performance Based on a revolutionary 28nm architecture, the AMD FirePro W8000 uses Graphics Core Next (GCN) to efficiently balance compute tasks with 3D workloads enabling multi-tasking that is designed to optimize utilization and maximize performance. And optimized and certified for Major CAD and M&E applications, this card delivers 3.23 TFLOPs of single precision and 806 GFLOPs of double precision performance with outstanding reliability for the most demanding professional tasks.
  • newegg GeometryBoost Allows the GPU to process geometry data at a rate of twice per clock cycle resulting in a doubling in the rate of primitive and vertex processing. Triangle rates increase two-fold relative to a GPU that does not possess GeometryBoost.
  • newegg Partially Resident Textures (PRT) PRT can utilize absolutely enormous texture files, up to 32 terabytes large, with minimal performance impact. PRT accomplishes this by streaming small bits of these massive textures into the GPU as needed, giving compatible applications a virtually endless supply of unique texture data.
  • newegg Error Correcting Code (ECC) Memory Helps ensure the accuracy of your computations by correcting single or double bit errors as a result of naturally occurring background radiation.
  • newegg AMD Eyefinity technology With this revolutionary multidisplay technology, the AMD FirePro W8000 graphics card can drive up to 4 independent displays with a single card, delivering highly immersive and unrivaled multitasking experience.
  • newegg Energy Efficient Design AMD ZeroCore Power technology leverages AMD's leadership in notebook power efficiency to grant our desktop GPUs the ability to power down when your monitor is off, also known as the "long idle state." AMD PowerTune is an intelligent system that performs real-time analysis of applications that utilize a GPU. In the event that an application is not making the most of the power available to the GPU, AMD PowerTune can improve that application's performance by raising the GPU's clock speed by up to 30 percent - automatically.

1 out of 5 eggsBAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CARD!

Pros: Supports 4-6 monitors.

Cons: 1. There is no user manual. 2. No CD's with drivers are included in the delivery. 3. Very difficult finding a monitor that will work with this card in 3D. After searching for many hours and calling numerous vendors, I found two that would "probably" work with the FirePro W8000, no guarantees. You have to buy the monitor and hope it works! No refunds if it does not. The monitors listed on AMD's website as being supported are older models and in most cases discontinued. Good luck finding a monitor that will work with this card. 4. Claims to support 3D viewing, but it does not support stereo on CRT's or any flat panel monitors running up to 120 Hz which are directly supported by the NVIDIA chipset. This is a huge negative for those in a gaming or high end CAD environment needing to implement 3D.

Other Thoughts: If you plan to use this card for stereo 3D viewing, consider another model. The NVIDIA chipset is by far a better choice for 3D. I went and bought an ASUS high end VGA card with the NVIDIA chipset. It supports ALL of my monitors in 3D, old and new and was much, much easier to install and configure than the FirePro W8000.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: This card is working great so far.

Cons: Backside of the card gets warm.

Other Thoughts: One of the display port adapters it came with wouldn't work. No big deal my work had extra.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Hardware For the Money

Pros: My Company bought one for a new workstation build. Ir runs plenty fast... I ran a benchmark on it and purely from a graphics rating prospective, it's faster than a GTX 680. That means that it's about double as expensive as gaming cards for the raw computing power you get... But this is Workstation graphics.

Cons: Drivers are still being updated constantly... Nvidia has a reputation for better drivers than AMD.

Other Thoughts: In terms of raw power, this card is great, better than the quadro 5000 (not sure about the k5000 yet). The problem you could run into is drivers and support for your application. As the drivers are optimized, the hardware will be able to utilize its full potential.. As I said before, the power in the GPU Passmark benchmark that I ran is faster than GTX 680. In actual applications it depends on what you're doing... Also it's hard to say where the W8000 will ultimately end up; even then though, you still have to look at your application. It's not easy to just say buy this since there are so many variables on the driver/software end of things. As for hardware, AMD has a reputation for giving you more for your money than Nvidia.
