The ultimate graphics power is here, with the SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 6GB graphics card.

Based on the cutting-edge 28nm GCN architecture, this card is built around 2048 Stream Processors, and enormous 6GB/384-bit GDDR5 memory - a World first for a consumer graphics, to deliver mind-boggling performance for multi-screen gaming as well as demanding professional applications such as content creation, video editing or rendering. The boundary of performance can be further pushed by EZ Boost Button, which increases the GPU clock frequency to extract more performance for smoother game frame rates. Vapor-X cooler is based on a new vapor chamber design and delivers exceptional thermal performance you can rely on even during extreme load condition. This card has built in onboard LEDs for easy monitoring of the PCB’s temperature at a glance.

  • newegg EZ Boost Button: By default, Vapor-X HD 7970 GHz Edition 6GB runs at 1000 MHz and dynamic boosts to 1050 MHz on the engine with the memory clock at 6000 MHz effective. Simply press the EZ Boost Button, the base clock is increased to 1050 MHz with dynamic boost to 1100 MHz on the engine. The fan profile and power tune limit is also changed to performance settings.
  • newegg Blue Power+ Blue Power+ consists of many premium designs, 8 phase power design for GPU VDDC, 1 phase for VDDCI and 1 phase for MVDD, brand new double side Black Diamond Choke, Directfet and 12 layer PCB to ensure the board run fast and stable. The brand new double sided Black Diamond Choke 4 reduces the temperature around the power design portion in lab test when compared to the reference PCB design.

  • newegg Vapor-X Technology SAPPHIRE’s innovative Vapor-X cooling technology allows products to run not only cooler but also much quieter. A Vapor-X product means a virtually silent gaming experience and more headroom to explore performance tweaking!
  • newegg Dual-X Famous for SAPPHIRE's exclusive cooling solutions like the award winning Vapor Chamber Cooling technology - Vapor-X, SAPPHIRE's reputation for innovative excellence continues to grow with the introduction of the new dual-extractor technology - Dual-X. Dual-X is a highly efficient multi-heatpipe cooler with dual fans that provide quiet and very cool operation during normal operating conditions, and superb cooling performance even under extreme load.
  • newegg Black Diamond Choke & Full Solid Cap Design Choke is an important component of the graphics card. By working with the component engineer, Sapphire’s exclusive choke is 10% cooler and offers 25% more power efficiency than a normal choke. The graphics card will be more reliable and save energy. Improved reliability and better overclocking are possible by using only high-polymer, aluminum capacitors which posses far superior characteristics than regular aluminum capacitor for a longer product life. When operational temperatures drop by 20°C, the product life span is extended by a factor of ten, when the operational temperature increases by 20°C, the product life span only decreases by 10%.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Powerful
6Gigs of DDR5
One button overclock

Cons: Huge!
Noisy
Hot

Other Thoughts: So... upgrading from a 6870 reference card to this is what my perspective is, my pros and cons are NOT based on other cards that could be competitors, Just FYI. With that said, this was a giant upgrade. Everything is butter smooth and crystal clear. The boost button is great for flipping on the extra boost and then turning it off when you don't need it LOL yeah right :P This thing will however crank the fans up when you push it and can be quite noisy. I installed it into my CM storm scout case and had to chop out a piece of the HDD cage :( So yeah, it's big. Overall, I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a card in this range.

4 out of 5 eggsNew Sapphire Customer

Pros: Fast, lots of memory, looks awesome and low heat.

Cons: I had to RMA the first one I purchased & then RMA the replacement for severely bent expansion brackets and the inner "egg crate" which holds the card in place in retail packing had holes & discoloration marks on it. Unfortunately the third replacement cards expansion bracket was bent as well and the inner "egg crate" had holes just like the first two cards. I notified newegg (the person whom I was in communication with through email). I decided to install the card and It works flawlessly.
I decided to purchase another one for Crossfire (overkill I know). As with the first three cards, the newly purchased card had a bent expansion bracket and the "egg crate had holes in it as well. Again I notified newegg and decided to install the card. It performed flawlessly as a single card setup and as a multi-card setup (Dual-Crossfire). In a triple monitor set up (3 I-INC 27".5" LCD Monitors), everything ran smooth. So I am satisfied for now.

Other Thoughts: I docked one egg for the bent expansion brackets. This should not reflect on newegg as I believe this is a issue where the retail packaging is being done. Although I must note, neewgg has not replied to my email concerning the third replacement card. I recently sent a email to neweeg rep concerning the condition of the second Purchased card so hopefully I'll hear back from them soon.

All-in-all, i'm very satisfied with the initial performance of these cards.

For Sapphire, What a bad way to begin a new customer relationship.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Performance is amazing. Plays most games ultra settings right off the start. get a solid 30-40 fps in ultra. medium about 60-80. Card stays about 38c with fans running at 65% over normal speed. Have it hooked up to 2 monitors and they look beautiful wile live streaming on twitch.

Cons: The over clocking feature provided from sapphire is a bit twitchy. the wrong settings will crash your computer, but hey, with the performance with default (with the fan tweek) its decent enough.

costs $200 less now (8/10/13) then when i first bought it at $700.

Other Thoughts: thinking about picking up another with the low price. probely will not happen till holiday season but hey. I play a lot of moba's and MMO and shooters and this card handles beta testing for upcoming release with out a problem. Looking forward to seeing how ESO looks with this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat EyeFinity Card

Pros: Performance and overclocking ability.

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: This is a great card. I upgraded to this from 2 5850s after buying three 1080p monitors for EyeFinity. It has exceeded all expectations. Running Crysis 3 on three monitors at High-Ultra Settings and I still get around 40-50fps. Was able to easily overclock the card for even more frames.

All I need now is a second one to truly max out my games.

Overall, amazing card. Would highly recommend.

1 out of 5 eggsBlack Screen

Pros: It has a lot of ram, had pretty good framerates in games.
Games would run in full screen (only) and not be affected by the con listed below.

Cons: Random black screen that would crash applications and reset window position on applications that survived the black screen. It affected mostly windowed applications but some full screen ones like Windows Media player.

Other Thoughts: I tried different drivers , beta, new and old along with various settings over a 3 day period and the problem continued.

I ended up checking the sapphire boards and google to find others were having similar problems with no answers for a fix.

I picked this card because I had upgraded to a Z77 gigabyte motherboard a few months ago that had crossfire support and not sli (my mistake there ). I was planning to get another one if this card not had these issues.

I decided to RMA it while I could and I put my Nvidia gtx 470 back in while I wait for my new 770 to arrive from newegg.

I am definitely sticking with Nvida cards after this experience (as long as it behaves when it arrives tomorrow)

5 out of 5 eggsSAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100351-6GVXSR Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 6GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Pros: Fast card. Uses a lot of power. has some heat but that is managed OK. Using the card on a MAC PRO with OS X v10.8.3. Apple system profiler reports 2 GB RAM and it's hard to install - white screen issue,Hopefully Apple and ATI will fix the driver soon.

Cons: Need an external Power Supply for 2 graphics cards, No SLI or Crossfire support for MAC PRO under OS X yet

2 out of 5 eggsToo bad.

Pros: Got rid of all those annoying "features" from Nvidia's Surround implementation. Eyefinity just worked! This card was able to outperform my previous 2x cards even on higher settings with eyefinity. Easy to install and setup multiple desktops. Desktop switching in Windows 8 also very compatible with card and ATI software.

Cons: RMA'd before a month due to artifacts in BIOS screen and inability to see anything (red checkerboard) in Windows.

Other Thoughts: No overclocking on my end, but I wonder if buying these "GHZ edition!" style cards are prone to these problems because they are "factory overclocked."

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Card operates well. Cannot comment on usage though because of cons listed below.

Cons: 4 free game promo from AMD is a joke. I've had the card going on 2 weeks now and cannot download the games. The site is constantly down. What a joke. Only reason I picked AMD over NVIDIA was the 4 free games. Thought I'd give AMD a chance since I've used NVIDIA for several years now. But this proves that their customer service is still as bad as ever. I sent them an email and have gotten no response at all. Don't buy any AMD card expecting to get free games - it is a con.

Other Thoughts: Buy NVIDIA not AMD.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Card

Pros: 6 Free games, super mega card, plays all the latest games at 2560x1440p at 60fps, 6gb of memory. Looks freaking cool.

Cons: This an expensive card, it gets really hot 94 degrees in Crysis 3 full specs, I have it on a Haf X with tons of fans so there's no air flow problem, it just a hot card, so beware if you're planning on buying the card, also it gets loud, but I don't mind that.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these, I'm really happy with the cards.
