Cons: Quit working just outside warranty period hurray. I guess it at least worked for the entire warranty period. just sucks it messed up and it only received light usage at that.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great card, almost as fast as a stock 7950 and can overclock well.

Cons: If you get this card at a substantially cheaper price than a 7950 its a steal, however if there is only around a $20 difference go with the 7950, it will give you more overclocking headroom that you may need for upping those FPS

3 out of 5 eggsConfused and Disappointed

Pros: It's a great card from what I hear.

Cons: Big, Heavy, sags a bit on the MB. Fans don't kick on till it's already reached very high temps. Better to just put them on manual to a level where the noise will not bother you.

Other Thoughts: I was very disappointed that this card would not work for me. I've never purchased a Sapphire product but have seen many good things about them. However, when I needed support, I felt that their service was lacking to the point where I had "buyer beware" running through my head. This is what happened:

Saved pics and relevant info on a external HD

Removed my old XFX 5850

Inserted the new Sapphire 7870 with Boost

Performed a fresh install of Windows 7

Updated latest BIOS for my ASUS M4A78T-E

Updated to V13.6 video drivers off of the Sapphire website

Reinstalled games such as Witcher 2, BF3, Mass Effect Trilogy, Crysis

Now, the CCC reported that the video card installed was indeed the 7870 and that it had 2048Mb of RAM. The device manager also reported seeing the 7870 as the display adapter and acknowledged the correct driver installed.

However, when I attempted to play any game, I could not get the graphics to go past Low to Med specs. Auto detect hardware options on games like the Witcher 2 reported that the video card only had 768 Mb of RAM. I ran DXdiag and it also reported the video card as having approx 761 Mb of RAM. Also, while playing in windowed mode, I was monitoring the video card with the CCC overdrive monitor and the card was performing at 975/1500 Mb as advertised. However, It couldn't even outperform my old 5850 because it just didn't have much working RAM.

So I laid this all out for Sapphire on their support website and I don't feel like they really even paid attention. Someone messaged me back asking what the reading in the CCC info tab and the DXdiag reading. So I told them CCC reported 2048 and DXdiag and my games reported 768. The guy messaged back saying; well Windows calculates things weird, it should be good. WELL, it's not! That's the last he would respond. So I have no choice but to assume the video card does indeed have 2048 Mb of RAM and that 1280 Mb of it are bad.

So ultimately, I was disappointed this card would not work for me. I was really looking forward to the Tahiti GPU at the 7870 price point.

Newegg is still the cat's pajamas in my book though. I put in a submission for an RMA. If any Sapphire folks read this, maybe you could help me solve this before I send this back and maybe we can right this because as it stands, I'm not very impressed with their service and don't think I'll spring for another one of their products. However, I don't like giving a company the wag of the finger over one help a brotha out!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Was doing a lot of research to get the best bang for my buck, and this graphics card was it. I really like the bundles that AMD supplies with their graphics cards, it came with 4 great games. Plays all of my games on max settings at 1080P with no problems.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This build:

RAM: 8GB 1600 Kingston HyperX
Samsung 120GB SSD
Sapphire Radeon 7870 XT
CM Haf 912 Case
Ivy Bridge Core I5 3350P
WD Black 500GB HDD
Cougar RX600 600W PSU
Acer G246HLAbd 24" Monitor

4 out of 5 eggsSmart Choice - Good Value

Pros: Blazing fast gpu.
Overclocks very good up to 1200MHz if you push the power +10%

Cons: Memory overclocking is not good at all, makes it unstable.
Pushing extra voltage and more than +10% power burns the card. I had to buy another one.
Runs a bit hot when overclocked, mine topped to 77C in Crysis3 (everything set on High, with AA etc..)

Other Thoughts: Very good gpu, especially for its price.
I overclocked up to 1200MHZ with no problems with +10% power boost.
Runs Unigine Heaven and Valley in 1080p full screen, everything maxed out (even tesellation) it runs more than 35FPS on Heaven, 40FPS on Valley.

Gave it 4 eggs only cause memory overclocking is barely possible and runs a bit hot with some coil whining when overclocked but I assume its kinda normal.

5 out of 5 eggsAn awesome upgrade

Pros: -Runs everything I throw at it at maxed out settings. BioShock Infinite and Battlefield 3 (both at 1920x1080) get between 50-60 average fps, and it never drops below 60fps for Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3. It can handle Crysis 3 with all graphics settings maxed, 4x Anisotropic filtering with FXAA enabled.
- Massive overclocking headroom. This thing ships at a "boosted" 975Mhz, mine can easily hit 1100Mhz without any voltage changes.
-Overall fantastic 7900 series performance for a 7800 price. They seem to go out of stock quickly for this reason, get 'em while you can!

Cons: -memory becomes unstable when overclocked (but the stock 1500mhz is really good anyway, so not really an issue)
- Gets quite warm, upper 60s C when gaming, even on stock frequency settings
-Longer than a 7950! But still fits fine in my Rosewill Blackhawk (Mid tower)
-Fans seem to vibrate between the 50-60% range, not loudly, but still mildly irritating.
-Had some driver issues with CCC 13.1, see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: Running this card on an ASUS Z77 board, i5 3570k @ 4.3 Ghz, 8 gb Corsair vengeance @ 1600mhz.

I had some artifact issues on some games (specifically StarCraft2 and The Witcher 2) using the 13.1 CCC drivers, however when I updated to the 13.4 version the problems thankfully vanished. I guess the moral of the story is since the 7870 XT is kind of a hidden gem, more attention will be required to find the correct drivers. Don't be afraid to see if the beta drivers on AMD support page work better! Happy Gaming!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Price for the Performance.

Pros: Combined with an AMD FX-8350 and 32GB of Corsair DDR3 1600 my machine rocks. I have too many games on steam (300+) and have yet to find a game that struggles on graphics set to full. Card is solid and reliable. Also I have no idea of this coil whine people speak of but I game for hours on end and my rig is quiet.

Cons: Lara Croft's hair with TressFX enabled struggles up close.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Price, performance, noise, temperature, basically everything that matters.

Cons: It's huge! Seems to go out of stock very quickly.

Other Thoughts: This card is really nice. Performs better than a regular 7870 and can be overclocked to perform like a 7950 at stock. The could rename under the 7900 (7950 light or something) series if they wanted.

The card is running everything I've thrown at it (so far) at Ultra settings averaging 50 FPS or better (some games from two years ago I'm getting well over 60 FPS with every graphic detail I could possibly turn on enabled). I am not getting the coil whine that many people seem to be having an issue with. Like I noted above, the card is massive. I have a Coolermaster HAF 912, so I was able to remove a hard drive bay from the case to give it room to breathe a little. Card idles at 30 C and I haven't seen it go over 70 C while under heavy load, so that is a plus.

For the price of this card, it outperforms anything else in it's range. Great for budget builds - highly recommended!
