1 out of 5 eggsGreat card. Best price on the market in its class

Pros: Good speed out of box

Overlcocks like a monster (competes close to 660ti)

Comes with 4 free games to pad the cost and thankfully they are good games

2 year warranty

Stays very cool(idle 30c)

Not loud, but not quiet like some may suggest. Is a bit quieter than my standard case fans until under heavy load, when the fan kicks up and you hear rushing air and a slight plastic scraping sound, but nothing loud.

Cons: Terrible warranty policy; Not a lifetime warranty like you get with XFX

I got one with bad fan bearings so sent for replacement
This is not going to be held against them because this is expected with anything you buy from food to cars, there is always a bad egg in a batch.

UPDATE two years and 1.8 years after purchase of these cards: All 3 of these cards I bought have FAILED ON ME. One was RMA out of box, other two failed after long term use. All 3 failures were due to the cooler, which means this card cooler is bad. This is a known issue and can be found all over the internet help boards. Sapphire REFUSES to do a recall on it and won't fix it unless it is still under warranty. One of my cards is still under warranty and after talking with them they told me it was not under warranty and they wouldn't fix it (it had be 1.8 years of the 2 year warranty). After a long argument and proof of purchase they say I can send it in after paying for shipping and a fee, which is half the cost of the card and more expensive than buying my own after market cooler. They then proceed to tell me that the SAME cooler that has failed THREE times will be put on there. They don't care about the card working past the two year warranty. One card failed just days after the warranty, the other just a month or two before. These were designed to fail and they try to deter you by saying it is out of warranty when it isn't. Stay away from Sapphire. XFX treats their customers well and I will now be paying the few extra dollars for theirs instead of letting Sapphire try to cheat me and give me more defective parts.

Other Thoughts: UPDATE two years and 1.8 years after purchase of these cards: How to know your card is failing like every other person on the help forums: One of your two fans on the cooler begins to spin slower, one of the fans hangs a little lower than the other, the light hum turns into a light scraping sound at higher fan speeds. After a while the fan will stop working entirely and might just fall right off like it did my oldest card. This happens close to 2 years after purchase if it didn't fail out of the box. I suggest replacing the cooler yourself as Sapphire will try to tell you it no longer has a warranty even if it does and if you manage to prove it is under warranty they will then explain that you have to pay for all shipping (to and from) and might even require a $60 fee. By the end it will equal the cost of the card on sale and two to three times the price of a new cooler. Awful service, awful website (took me 7 tries to start a ticket because it kept asking me to log in every button I pressed), and awful warranty policy. Save yourself the trouble and buy from XFX. I have never had an issue with them or their warranty. Last time my 6950 went out (it was a gift) they emailed me a paid for shipping label and it was back within two weeks and fully fixed. I will never try to save money by going with Sapphire ever again. I had always bought XFX or Sapphire, but now that I had three cards fail and a bad warranty experience I will never buy them again.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value

Pros: I had my eye on this card and it went on sale so i got it.

So far it has not gone above 55 C, idles at around 28 C (with ambient around 22 C). Just to give you an idea, and im using Speedfan to control fans which have climbed to 85% at 55 C.

Cons: Still waiting on rebate. The card can actually get pretty loud, depending on how you tune the fans.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully this card will last me a while. I was looking at other similarly priced cards and they really can't compete with the price/performance ratio. For a card in the 175-200 range this is the way to go.

EDIT: almost 3 years later, i just upgraded and it still works great, i intend to give it away or sell it.

5 out of 5 eggsI almost regret buying this...

Pros: I almost regret buying this, because it's such a great card, that even two years later I don't have an excuse to upgrade! I paid $145 in 2013, and I believe there was a $15/20 rebate, which makes this one of my best purchases ever :). I run this with a Yamakasi 27" at 2560x1440 and it works great. My system has an i3-4340 (another great buy), so at idle/web surfing it pulls less than 80 watts. I think the card itself only pulls around 10 watts at idle. Also it's completely quiet - the fans on this video card are silent until I start gaming, and then I never notice them. I played many hours of Skyrim, with a lot of visual mods added, and really enjoyed how beautiful the game looked, while keeping the framerate near 60 almost always.

Cons: In two years of service I have never had a single problem.

Like I said, the only real con for me is no excuse to buy something new (which is fun in itself ;)

Other Thoughts: I just ordered the Dell curved 34" (another good newegg deal), so we'll see how the card handles that. Regardless, it is amazing how well this card has held up (or perhaps an indictment of how poorly GPUs have advanced in the past two years?). Previous to this card, I rarely had any of my computer equipment last longer than a year. Probably not since the GeForce4 Ti 4200 (2002?) have I seen something like this: enduring price/performance value - in the world of high performance electronics, devices like these are admirable engineering feats (probably not much value in my review, but the card deserved some commemoration :)

3 out of 5 eggsGreat performance for a great price till it dies.

Pros: In terms of gaming this card and a decent CPU will play contemporary (2015) 3D PC games at 1920*1080 on both Windows and Linux with no issues at 30 fps. 60 is a stretch requiring more optimization and lower resolutions.
This specific version of the 7870 uses the 'Pitcairn' chip which is not the fastest for GPU compute of the 7870 series ('Tahiti' are best), but it's fast enough. I've used mine for software defined radio, physics simulation, brute forcing a vanity Tor address, and even a little cryptocoin mining. If your application uses OpenCL this card is great.
It runs fairly cool and I've only ever seen core temps of ~70 C in very warm rooms in summer. Usually it stays near 60C under heavy load. The fan noise is quiet enough. I don't hear it. The fan bearings hold up well.
The price was very good for the performance.

Cons: The cons are significant though. Since the RMA process is such an integral part of buying this video card I've outlined it as well.

Sapphire's initial 7870 series cards were made with bad ceramic capacitors around the PWM power supply circuitry. The capacitors are the final stage of the PWM voltage regulator meant to turn the rapid on/off switching into it's average; a stable voltage. With incomplete voltage smoothing the cards will begin shutting off at random times due to voltage fluctuations. This results in a black/blank screen with a "no signal" message from the monitor. Reboots only temporarily fix it. This (eventually) kills the card.
My card began obviously dying at ~1.8 years in age. It took a week from my first blank screen to the final, permanent, failure. Luckily Sapphire's warranty extends 2 years.
Sapphire's USA RMA representative was helpful and polite. They seem to communicate by form letter. It took a bit over 2 weeks to go from me shipping the card back ($13) to me receiving the replacement. The replacement was not another 7870 but instead a Radeon HD 7950 3GB. Unfortunately it only has 1 DVI output and not 2 like this particular 7870 had. The RMA process is never fun and rarely is the replacement perfect but in this case I'm satisfied with the trade-off.

2 out of 5 eggsWas good while it lasted

Pros: Good price, decent power, reasonably quiet

Cons: Fans failed about a year in, website tech support is iffy at best.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these cards at the end of 2013. One has a failed fan (despite being kept in a cleanroom, so we can't blame dust...) and the other is starting to sputter. Working with Sapphire to get RMA on the first.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for the price, when it was out.

Pros: - Takes on most programs on high without a hitch.
- Can go up to 82C before it gets glitchy if you want to heavily overclock it.
- Great price for the performance. (Best when I bought it in 09/2013.)

Cons: - Teeny bit loud when it's silent in the room.
- Doesn't overclock well.

5 out of 5 eggsBest two cards I've ever owned

Pros: It's run every game I've thrown at it at full settings with no loss.

Cons: Lotsa power draw. Get a bronze 80 PSU or pay the piper

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Buy

Pros: Good price range
Great picture quality

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought the card a year ago, at the time it ran every game a threw at it max settings no problems. To date the only game that has ever challenged it has been Shadow of Mordor running the downloadable graphics upgrade. Even then gameplay was smooth, only stuttering in certain scenarios.
