2 out of 5 eggsNice when it works

Pros: I got this card at a good price and, when it is working, it works very well indeed for that price.

Cons: While the card works fine in general use and usually works fine running things like Seti at home, it frequently crashes during game play. Sometimes the drivers restart and there is no further problem. Other times the screen just goes blank and there is no recovery possible. There is no pattern to which of these two occurs.

I have used all the drivers available, making sure to clean sweep between each, but none have helped. Not allowing the installation of CCC made the problem a bit less frequent, but still not to an acceptable level and deprives me of some of its functionality. I have not returned it yet as I have been giving them a chance to make some decent drivers. I don't think I will wait much longer.

This is my second sapphire card. I had no problems with the first ( a 5570). While I don't know if the issue here is Sapphire or AMD, I would probably be unlikely to risk Sapphire again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card but runs a little hot!

Pros: This card actually surprised me. I really didn't think it was going to run as good as it does. I can play pretty much any game I throw at it on ultra high. Very quite and the double fan is a great feature

Cons: The only con it has is that it does run a little hot. But I recently upgraded my case which has 8 fans so now there is no problem.

Other Thoughts: Overall an amazing card for the money! I would recommend to anyone!

3 out of 5 eggsSome issues, working fine now.

Pros: 1. Plays most new games at very high settings.

2. Looks cool.

3. Comes with a few accessories.

4. Low temperature operation.

Cons: 1. Crashes with stock settings.

2. Can be noisy with high fan speeds.

Other Thoughts: Issue:
The card would crash to a black screen in most 3D games after between five and three hours in the game.

Installed MSI Afterburner and set settings to ...
Core Clock (MHz) 988
Memory Clock (MHz) 1441
Fan Speed ~75%
Power Limit and Core Voltage untouched.

Turned off hardware acceleration in browsers.

2 out of 5 eggsFaulty

Pros: Card works amazing for its price. Handles anything needed on my rig. When it works however.

Cons: Driver issues. After playing games and then doing heavy surfing on the web, the display driver resets and the card starts to run awful until a reboot. Put an old 5770 in and the issue never reoccurred.

Other Thoughts: Works great when it wants too. Staying with the 7790 but going with another brand.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect Mid-Level Card

Pros: The 7790 fills a nice little void in performance and price.

I downloaded the 7790 specific drivers (never even messed with the installation CD) and I have not had any of the issues that other people have had. However I don't do a lot of power surfing on this rig, but I would get a blue screen on my A10 from time to time when surfing, but have not had it happen to the 7790 yet. In game, like everyone else, I have not had a problem.

Cons: None yet. Will probably only have this card for a year and a half until upgrade, which is why I didn't want to bankroll one right now.

Other Thoughts: I have a couple rigs and I bought this for a rig I am slowing upgrading over the next 18 months. I went from an A10 5800 (which was very impressive for what it was) to this card. I am running a dual monitor setup while gaming. The card has been very impressive so far. Not blowing anything out of the park, but putting up a very decent showing. But for the price, I am very happy. I got it for $114 after a rebate, so if you are looking for a decent mid-level card, this one comes in at a great price.

1 out of 5 eggsSadistic

Pros: very technical. lots of colors. i am seeing a vision of sorts of diamonds that i could foresee in the future with bridges of love.

Cons: regrettably this non flexible version doesn't satisfy me what they are doing is making a little bit nicer of a gpu heatsink on there with aluminum garbage and then 'claiming' that it's going to give you better overclocking results, when the sheer truth is, nothing beats a zalman and forged copper heatsinks.

why pay the extra money for these so called sapphire oc models, when the gpu heatsinks won't deliver on the oc nearly as well as a zalman.

i say id rather get pay a little less for visiontek or powercolor for my caucasian

i have a vision

Other Thoughts: sapphire won't be leading me to sapphires at the end of the pearly city with shiny stuff anytime soon..

let us take a break for sadness.

4 out of 5 eggsBackwards Compatibility Warning

Pros: As of this review it's essentially the best performing card in the price range. OC'd version from a very established board maker.

Cons: AMD decided to kill backwards compatibility with PCI-Express v1.1 slots in favor of power saving. If your board is more than a few years old, be wary before purchasing.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card to spruce up an older system I had. Learned the hard way that while the PCI Express spec is backwards compatible, manufacturers can utilize it in ways that compromise that.

Unfortunately it sat around for more than 30 days, and I won't be able to return it. These AMD HD 7000 series cards should really have a bit more warning that they do not work on PCI-e v1,1 boards. They aren't THAT old.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card, low power usage

Pros: Solid card as long as you have the proper drivers installed.

At full load, the card was only using 85 watts & I was able to overclock it stable +150 core, w/o going above 65oC (in ~76oF, 24.5oC ambient).

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I would have included "price" in the pros - I payed $100 for the card + got free games to boot. As of right now, it's $135AR which is just about smack in the middle as far as 7790's go.... but, that's also more expensive than the 7850's are running right now. I was tempted to list it as a 'con', but who knows what the prices will be like weeks from now...

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: See below

Cons: See above

Other Thoughts: This thing pops up when you've set the interface filter to PCI. It probably shouldn't.
