4 out of 5 eggsSapphire R9 290 4g

Pros: Excellent card for the money and Sapphire build quality is tops, so why pay more?. Runs quiet and cool OC'd at 1100 with no problem. Uses far less power then my electric stove, coffee maker, or microwave and produces very little heat compared to them as well. If your card is running hot, check out your case airflow first or else dial the card back a notch or two.

Cons: Stupid rebate! This is the third Sapphire card this year and I'm still waiting for three different rebates! I normally don't buy anything with a rebate attached, but the price was right even without it.
Please stop with the rebates, just knock off another ten dollars and we'll all be a lot happier! Can NewEgg do something about this?

Other Thoughts: The card looks small in my Cooler Master HAF 932 case which is one reason it runs cool. Even though I can afford to pay more, I don't believe in over spending on anything that will be obsolete in two or three years!

5 out of 5 eggsStill a great card for the money

Pros: I have owned this for a year and a half, still running strong.

*Core Clock 1000, Memory Clock 1400, no increase in voltage - using MSI Afterburner to control GPU and fan.

Cons: More noisy than cards with better coolers.

You have a choice of too much heat that slows the GPU down or loud fan noise if you overclock too much. [I wear headphones and have a floor fan in the room and the GPU fan is not as loud as the floor fan unless the overclock is too high.]

Other Thoughts: * It will overclock more, but I do not want to increase voltage.

I paid $400 dollars for this the day it was released, Bit mining drove the price up, but now the price has dropped far below what I paid, even though it has risen $20 or so in the past few months.

Search ASUS GTX 960 STRIX review techpowerup - it will list many cards, in a side by side comparison, including this one. 19 games are benchmarked, beginning on page 7, if you get the review I have in mind. Just pick your monitor resolution, or one close to it.

I picked the above site and video card review because it was done Jan 2015 and includes video cards that were not released when this one was.

Great card, a year and a half old and still nips at the heals of the top video cards [minus the expensive GTX 980]

5 out of 5 eggsUltimate 1080p Graphics Card

Pros: I bought this card in October 2013 the day it came out. The price was $400.00. Lol. Since October 2013, I've been able to run any game at maximum settings. What else can I say? I buy most every new release, the drivers and hardware here just turn every game into butter smooth gaming heaven. BF4 / Thief in Mantle are fantastic. True Audio with hardware reverb convolution, pretty sweet. Whatever the price, whatever the punishment that AssCoin miners have inflicted on our gaming community, don't doubt that this is a just perfect 1080p gaming card that can run any game on max and then some.

Cons: AssCoin miners inflated demand, and NewEgg saw a profit to be had, and they increased the price of the cards. Not sure who to blame.

Other Thoughts: My PC feels like a bad a-z hot rod with this card.

5 out of 5 eggsR9 290

Pros: This is truly a great card. It's got to be the best card on the consumer market at the moment. It gets insane FPS on games and renders 3D in no time at all.

Cons: Not really anything. You might find that the GPU occasionally locks, but that'd be because of insufficient cooling.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this before the Litecoin miners found out about it. Yeah, something needs to be done about that. That blew the price to the moon, and it doesn't look like it's coming down any time soon. I was going to buy a second card, but can't because of the extra $200 on it.

4 out of 5 eggsThis card is amazing!

Pros: If you are playing at 1920x1080 this will run almost everything at max including anti-aliasing. Looks really nice. Send the heat out of the back of the card. Really though the price is the big bonus. There is no card out there that will give you this much performance for $400.

Cons: It runs hot. amd has claimed this is by design and I have had no problems so far but don't underestimate the heat of this card. Literally heats up my room. It is loud as well but after running a stock amd heatsink for a while its really not that bad and I never notice it while playing games with fans set at 55% minimum. At 100% this thing sounds like a hair dryer but it never goes above a 55% minimum.

Other Thoughts: 3 days after buying this card the exact same card was released with battlefield 4. I was hoping newegg would be able to throw me a bone on that considering I have spent thousands on this website but no dice. Just a bunch of non-answers and every company telling me I need to contact another company. Can't really knock an egg for it but newegg takes a minus in my book.

If you have the patience to wait its probably better to get a non reference model when they come out. Less noise and lower temps are likely.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Card

Pros: - Really fast - able to handle any game I give it at 1080p with very high settings, and get beyond 60 FPS. Getting around 80-70 in Far Cry 3 and Battlefield 4. Crysis 3 on Very High is around 50 FPS.
The performance blew me away. My last card was the GT 640 which simply sucked! Barely got 25 FPS on Bad Company 2. Tried it with this one - over 100 FPS!!!
- 4 GB of VRAM will make sure you can play at VERY high resolutions like 4K. Slight future-proofing when 1440p becomes the new standard.
- Will support AMD's new Mantle API coming out soon. Rumored to increase performance by alot!
- Supposed to have AMD's True Audio (some kind of sound processing chip). Will have to wait for developers to utilize it for better sound quality and immersion.
- Much cheaper than Nvidia's GTX 780 (by 100$) , which is equivalent in power. Perfect if your'e on budget.

Cons: - HOT HOT HOT! Unless you live in Antarctica, this card will reach very high temperatures (~95 C as stated by AMD and reviewers). Touching the back-plate during gaming almost scorched my finger.
A way I found of dealing with it - using vsync to cap the FPS on 60 (unless you have a 120 HZ monitor) .Makes the card work less hard and generate less heat.
- Loud! Going over the default 47% fan speed, the card gets very loud (Tried 100% once, now my cat is scared of my PC). I used MSI Afterburner to create a custom fan control scheme, now I idle at 40C with 35% fan speed (which is quiet) and game at around 80-85C with 50% fan speed (A bit loud, but bearable, nothing if you use headphones).
- This thing is HUGE! Maybe I think so because I've never had a high end GPU before. Make sure your case has enough space for it !(It's about 11 inches long)

Other Thoughts: Overall I am very satisfied with the video card and would recommend to anyone. You can deal with the issues by waiting for the models from Sapphire/Asus/MSI/HIS... which will provide much superior cooling and noise levels (when they come out on January) or by buying a custom cooler (Waterblocks work great too!).
Planning on getting my self a Gelid Icy Vision Rev.2 for some overclocking and less heat (Saw people are getting 65C on max load with that!).

1 out of 5 eggsJust got this and it's discontinued?

Pros: It works better than my xfired 6950's I was getting 45 fps
I can Run BF4 on Ultra settings topping out at 60 fps

Cons: It will not let me mess with the clocking and any time I try it black screens. I am very disappointed that I have purchased this less than 30 days ago and It is already discontinued. The card dips pretty hard on the fps when im in high pressure situations in Bf4 going from 60 down to high 20's to low 30's.

Other Thoughts: There needs to be some sort of protection for the consumer when stuff like this happens. I spend a lot of money through NewEgg every year and feel cheated right now. I will be calling tomorrow the day before my 30 days of owning this card.

5 out of 5 eggsCons exaggerated by many

Pros: Blazing fast in games!

Even at 80% fan speed I can barely hear this thing through my case, and I have it right next to my head.

Can easily OC in AMD Catalyst

Cons: none!

Other Thoughts: Yes, it does run hot, but I have yet to bottleneck this card, and the sound is so greatly exaggerated nobody has any real reason not to crank up the fan to keep this bad boy cool.

5 out of 5 eggsNow that I got one that works!

Pros: Fast, takes everything you throw at it, and when not gaming it is very quiet. Overclocking on my terms, as far as Fan Speed, & Temp is a plus.

Cons: High power consumption, If installing in new computer with UEFI motherboards it may not boot unless you Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS, and must be disabled before instillation.

Other Thoughts: 1st 290 was RMA, 2nd works as advertised, and received overnight shipment on new card.
Note there is a New BIOS available from Sapphire, but you must not select any OS to see the new bios download link. With most off the shelf systems unequipped with a 750+ W power supply, DO NOT SKIP on an off-brad power supply, adds to the cost.

5 out of 5 eggsupdate on card after 3 weeks

Pros: i am very satisfied with this card especially given the performance with the price. Able to play BF4, Ghosts, Arma3, Batman, and COH2 on max/ultra settings with no issues after cleaning up the previous gpu drivers. I highly recommend that you use something other than Catalyst to manage the performance of this card due to the fact you can not set the MIN FAN speed which will cause the card to hit its temp limit and throttle back. Ive played BF4 at 1080p for a few hrs and the max temp reached was 86c with fan set to MIN speed 49%. you could set the fan to a higher speed to keep the card cooler under load. use MSI afterburner/HIS Iturbo to manage fan speed. fan noise is not a issue when playing games.

Cons: Catalyst only allows you to set the max fan speed which i think is useless. this lets the card get hot and then throttle back in performance. Use MSI afterburner or HIS Iturbo to set a higher MIN fan speed so the card does not hit its temp limit and throttle back while playing games.
