5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: This card is great with its high clock speeds it can soar through the game requirements. Stays relatively cool on most games and has 3gb of ram for multi monitor set up.

Cons: Fans can get quite noisy so be aware but I have headphones so I don't really notice it.

Other Thoughts: This card has great price to performance. People have been worried about artifacting but I think they fixed that so it's not a problem.

3 out of 5 eggsVery Fast, Not Expected

Pros: I love the design of the card, it looks amazing in a windowed case. The power of the card was what I expected, It is a complete monster for what I paid. I have not received any coil whine, like some reviewers have.

Cons: This is where I am disappointed, the card at stock clocks got all the way up to 83 Celsius while the fan speeds are running at around 80%. From what I read in the comments I expected so much better. Sapphire has a great reputation from myself with cooling. My HD7950 ran games with 40 to 20 frames less but stayed at a cool 63 Celsius, not to mention while staying very quiet. I don't know why my card runs so hot, everyone else seems to have their fans at 30%-50% and getting under 70.

Other Thoughts: To achieve a decent temperature, and I mean around 70 Celsius. I under clocked using TrixX to a whole whopping 1000 MHz and 1400 on the memory speed. With the fans running around 70% under load, I am not pleased with how this card has run so far. I will probably wait a few more days and update my review, seeing if it will break in, but from the looks of it, it doesn't seem possible.

4 out of 5 eggsRunning Very Hot!

Pros: Very powerful card that is the best in its class and is still priced appropriately. The card just looks awesome, the LED sapphire logo is very cool in a windowed case.

Cons: My card is running extremely hot, at least compared to the other people who have reviewed this product. I'm starting to think my card might be faulty, and see what I can do if I RMA. Currently I can play Metro Last Light on High settings, and it runs like a dream. Though the temps are just WAY to high for my taste. reached a peak of 83 Celsius, where my HD 7950 also ran Metro but at 63 Celsius max. I don't understand why this card is running so hot, its very bothersome, I can't play 5 minutes without getting out to check my temps and giving the card a break. Not to mention it runs pretty loud, with these temps I have TrixX running the fan speeds at 80% while playing.

Other Thoughts: My airflow is certainly not the problem I just upgraded to a Corsair 750D, and I noticed maybe 5 Celsius of a difference on my old card which ran quiet, cool, and fast.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Batch

Pros: Great Cooling. Good Speed.

Cons: I started to run a low intensive game (Hearthstone) and my screen would just tear and then go black or gray. This caused a hard reboot of the computer. This problem started after the latest driver update so I am hopeful this problem will be fixed. But as of right now I am either looking at initiating an RMA or doing an in depth analysis of every single system component to see if there is something that went wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat the doctor prescribed

Pros: This card is built solid as Valyrian steel. The back-plate is perfect for adding rigidity to this 2.5 pound card, and the cooler/shroud itself is very sturdy(Sometimes I find that the shroud itself is tacky and feels weak.) Structure quality, overall, is outstanding.

Performance on this card is unbeatable. It's benchmarks come close if not neck and neck with the GTX 770 from Nvidia for a cheaper cost, and an extra gig of VRAM. I play BF4, Thief, Skyrim with mods out the wazoo, Rome 2, and Bioshock Infinite all maxed out at 1080p without any hickups. So for 1080p gaming, this card is perfect. Maybe even overkill, in some cases. The card itself stays very cool for the amount of factory OC it has. Idle is 35c in my case, gaming it rarely goes above 69c. That's impressive, seeing how hot the stock R9 cards can get. The added 3 game Never Settle bundle worth $130 was a nice touch, and I love that the deal happened right around the time I was looking to buy a card. I cannot recommend this card enough.

As for the problems in earlier reviews that many people have been having, they have all been fixed as far as my knowledge. AMD/Sapphire pulled the broken batches of cards, and rebuilt them, fixing the problems. I wouldn't worry too much about them at this point. I have had no problems with my card.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsSapphire nerfed this card

Pros: - Great HSF design with three fans as opposed to two on most cards. Under load, this card runs around 5c degrees cooler than a Diamond r9 280x at 10% less fan speed.

- Metal backplate gives this card a sturdy feel, helps with flex as this is a LONG card.

- VRMs have individual little ridged heatsinks on the back of card. Allows for excellent heat dissipation.

Cons: - Sapphire has revised this card for the worse, a.k.a. they nerfed it. The memory is Elpida and not the Hynix memory that came with the cards originally. Unlike with original versions with Hynix, this version only runs good around the 1030/1500 core/mem clock area, overclocking will reduce performance.

- No way to monitor VRM temp, this one is a bug. VRM temps read as 0c via latest version of Sapphire Trixx utility and GPU-Z. ASIC quality according to GPU-Z is 51%, which is abysmal for supposedly the best R9. Workaround is to use an app called HWiNFO64, not ideal because it polls temps in realtime and probably takes up resources.

- Unable to turn off Sapphire logo light and three small lights. This lights up my bedroom at night.

- For miners, expect low 700s and nothing more. Work utility 650-ish. Pushing the clock past 1040 will reduce performance, which is due to Elpida memory. Nearly identical performance to my Diamond r9 280x boost, but with lower temps at a lower fan speed. The diamond scored 11% higher in ASIC quality according to GPU-Z.

Other Thoughts: AMD should force manufacturers to specify what kind of memory the cards come with. Reviews are utterly pointless with the R9 generation of cards. Manufacturers are playing a game where the first gen cards are stellar, with optimized timings using best available Hynix memory. The reviewers benchmark them and they score high. Then they launch the card and a few months down the road without changing the name or model they swap out the memory with something cheaper which ruins the timing and thus performance.

I hope Maxwell puts an end to this little game.

1 out of 5 eggsupdate from 1st review

Pros: This card worked great when I first installed it. Then it began to artifact in BF4 and only this game. This card is great looking though and the 3 cooling fans keep this sucker cool with no issues.

Cons: Card is now artifacting only in BF4. Not O/C in any way. Going back and forth with different drivers same result. I have since purchased an SSD drive and did a brand new install and tried out the mantel drivers which did nothing but crash BF4 because of a mantel dll module went bad. I just want every to be aware of this issue and I hope with the next batch that are manufactured, the vram chips are not corrupted or defective . Can't tell you how disappointed I am. You spend close to 500 bucks and expect to get a good product. I am working on the RMA process but I just don't want to wait two months to get a possible refurbished card. Still can't decide if I'll do the RMA and wait the two months or hold off till new ones show up and then RMA it. I can play BF4 with the latest non beta drivers and will for a bit before deciding what to do.

Other Thoughts: I have read that the vram chips on the R9-280X series cards is flawed or corrupted in some way to create this condition. It sucks because now they are out of stock and one user is waiting two months for his RMA to be returned.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry that you have had problems with your graphics card.

We do hope that your return with Newegg goes smoothly

5 out of 5 eggsStable, fairly cool

Pros: Card runs very stable and cool. I had a 290x and traded down to a 280x because of high issues. These are best bang for the buck. Sapphire + AMD = Happy geeks.

Cons: Wish it was cheaper. Cyrpto changing the world as we know it!

1 out of 5 eggsSigh....

Pros: So its a nice card good clocks and really nice design. Stayed at 70c in crossfire with my 7970 vapor-x

Cons: Artifacting like you wouldnt believe.. as I am writing this review my web browser has black squares popping up and it crashes while playing bf4. Checked GPUz and it has an asic score of 57.4%. Such a let down think I will RMA once and if not switch to another card.

Other Thoughts: Good thing I still have a 7970 Vapor-x

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry that you have had problems with your graphics card.

Crossfiring the HD 7970 and R9 280X is not supported. The HD 7970 will be set to higher limits than is supported which will cause artifacting as it is running out of spec.

Please be aware that the ASIC quality score in GPU-Z is not an actual quality check of the ASIC. It only checks the voltage/speed of the ASIC and compares it to the reference design. An overclocked card will always get a low "ASIC score" but will almost always outperform a card with a high score.

We do hope that your return with Newegg goes smoothly
