5 out of 5 eggsDoes what's needed

Pros: Installed card. Installed drivers. Works and runs cool. Also extremely quiet compared to my previous card.

Cons: None at this time.

Other Thoughts: Installed in my MicroATX case. The fan makes this card a bit larger than my previous card so I had to shift things around (the image is a little deceiving- you'll need as much room as you would for a card that occupies two slots on the back.) It's not a long card so it fit very easily. Driver download was as easy as going to the AMD website. I *never* bother with included driver discs because of how rapidly drivers are updated.

I chose this card to replace a GTX 260 which would not fit in my new case well. Benchmarks show that the R7 250 outperforms it. I'm very pleased given its very small size.

5 out of 5 eggsIt is UEFI compatible!!!

Pros: Radeon R7 250 1GB 128-bit GDDR5

To the first reviewer that says that the card is "Not UEFI compatible" is incorrect.

1. It is UEFI compatible.
2. It is Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista compatible.

Now that I've cleared that up, what the card may not support is Windows 8 Secure Boot and UEFI GOP.
After enabling Windows 8 Secure Boot on my Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H board, "msinfo32" shows "Secure Boot State" as "Unsupported". What I'm not sure about is whether this can be fixed with an update from Gigabyte or if the Sapphire card itself, doesn't support Secure Boot. More than likely this card doesn't support Windows 8 Secure Boot and UEFI GOP.

Anyone wanting to use this card in a machine with UEFI shouldn't worry. It works with UEFI. Sapphire was correct when they told the first reviewer that the card is Windows 8 compatible, because it is. A card can be Windows 8 compatible and still not have all the supported features like Secure Boot and UEFI GOP. Nowhere on the box or the Sapphire website does it say that this card supports Windows 8 Secure Boot or UEFI GOP. The one star rating the first reviewer gave is not warranted.....based upon incorrect assumptions.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Good card. Runs cool.

The Windows 8 Secure Boot or UEFI GOP features may be on higher priced cards. There's probably not enough data out there on which cards have these features, so it's a toss of the dice, if you're looking for them.

5 out of 5 eggsSapphire AMD Radeon R7 250

Pros: Specs per GPU-Z 0.7.7

GPU: Oland
Technology: 28 nm
Die Size: 77nm 2
Release Date: Oct 8, 2013
Memory Type: GDDR5
Memory Size: 1024 MB
Bandwith: 73.6 GB/s
GPU Clock: 1050 MHz
Memory: 1150 MHz

Has a VGA port.
Runs quiet.
Runs cool.

Cons: Pricey as of 03-04-2014.

Other Thoughts: The card is 6 1/2 inches long. In my HTPC case, I'm getting GPU idle temp of between 36c to 39. The idle temps of my previous card, the Sapphire HD 6570 was around 47c to 50c. I had no problems installing the AMD 13.12 driver. It should be a good HTPC for the next year and a half.

1 out of 5 eggsNot UEFI compatible

Pros: Average card, with average entry level features.

Cons: Not EUFI GOP ready. This card will not pass the Windows 8/8.1 UEFI "Secure Boot".

BEWARE of what it says in the specs (it is NOT Windows 8 ready).

Other Thoughts: Before I purchased this card I had asked SAPPHIRE if it was UEFI compatible (they said it was). I was very disappointed with them after purchasing it, finding out it wasn't compatible and having to return it with a loss (of both money and time).
