5 out of 5 eggs290x Over 970 any Day.

Pros: Cheap, Fast, No problems what so ever. Cooler is a beast, I can use it to blow dry my hair. I got it for around $360

Cons: Runs hot. Not above 85c, the thermal paste smell was real till I broke it in. Blow drier is pretty loud.

Other Thoughts: I came from a Gtx970 I had multiple problems with. Gpu being low utilized gpu usage drops to zero and to top it off 3.5gb. I've made a mistake with that. Now with this car I have no problems what so ever, I should have stayed with AMD for the first place. For anyone who doesn't know AMD cards were made to be ran at these types of temps.

5 out of 5 eggsPlays Minecraft well!

Pros: Plays Minecraft very well, I highly recommend.

It does play Minecraft well and many other games.

Cons: AMD AM3+ 700 series chipsets do not agree with this card, but its not the cards fault. The motherboards do not agree with high end cards at all.

Other Thoughts: This card is actually amazing just make sure you have a good chipset.

4 out of 5 eggs880G Chipset users Beware

Pros: -Beautiful
-Delivers promised performance in all games I run(StarCraft 2, FFXIV, Diablo 3, Heroes of the Storm, Skyrim +80 mobs + 4k textures)
-Quiet on auto speed fan management
-Doesn't break 55c with Skyrim + mods

Cons: -Incompatible with my motherboard M4A88TD-EVO 880G chipset(or so the internet forums say)
-Hardlocks system at random

Other Thoughts: I tried a few of the fixes recommended by other 880G chipset users, one of which to overclock the PCI-E bus to the maximum(150). This fix was the only one to allow the card to function for longer than 15 minutes.
I've since ordered a new z97 motherboard and i5 CPU which I'm hoping resolves these issues. If not, I'll be returning the product for these defects.

5 out of 5 eggshelpful information

Pros: price/performance is great... stock cooler looks good. Haven't received yet so cant say much.

Cons: (tampering with heatsink could void warrenty) if you plan on OCING any r9 290 or 290x or any of the highest end cards i suggest using a nzxt kraken bracket with compatible water cooler and vrm/vram heatsinks or adding it to a custom loop... it is also a good idea to test card for a couple weeks to make sure its reliable and then replace the stock TIM(Prolamatech pk-3,Arctic mx-4, Tuniq TX-4) and Thermal Pads(Only use Fujipoly).. Companies tend to go cheap with this stuff. I have received GPUS in the past and the TIM has been almost completely dry. this is probably the issue some people have when a gpu only last a couple to few months.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat card great price

Pros: The Card looks great, Packaged very well for shipping would not be worried about damage in shipping. it came with a molex to 8 and 6 pin wire so that was nice.

Cons: heat it came with a HDMI cable thanks but the cable is quite short...

Other Thoughts: great card runs BF4 in 1080 no problem on ultra was also able to up scale and still get good performance. its a very solid card sure it may get hot and use a little more power than other cards. but it also dose more than some other cards at a lower price. AMD did a great job with this card Sapphire just did an even better job at cooling it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card IMO

Pros: Quiet and very fast.

Cons: Takes up a lot of room in your case. If you want it check your case size. Plus think about where your internal drives are in relationship to this card. Cool PC components means better running PC.

Other Thoughts: I would have loved to gotten it for the price it is now. I paid 389.00 but have no regrets. I am a Sapphire and Radeon fan AMD not so much. Keep your PC cool and please do not go cheap on power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card!!!

Pros: I got this card last week and installed it and man i definitely do not regret buying this! I had no idea not cheaping out on a card could be so beneficial but this card proves it. I can now go into a lobby in a game i used to lag alot in due to textures and such and not lag at all. Bench marks are making this card look great as well with many of the demanding games being so easy to play now. I highly recommend this card if you are looking for a not so high price point but also some more power to your system. You will not be dissappointed! Sapphire was smart to add 3 fans to such a powerful card as my card does not get very loud at all and stays very cool.

Cons: The only true con about this is the size. Now i didnt have much of a rough time getting this in my AZZA case but I HIGHLY recommend you check your case size so that you know for sure this card can fit in your case. If your still not sure you could always use the site pcpartpicker and just find your case and see if it fits it ( trust me this site is a life saver use it wisely).

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have a nice processor to back up this graphics card as well it helps a ton! Don't cheap out on the processor or else you may end up not getting the high performance that you should be getting. 6 core is good but you may as well get an 8 core clocked at a nice speed and go from there. Not sure how anybody is getting a card as "dead on arrival" because anytime i have bought parts non have ever been like that so i think most of that has to do with the customer his or herself doing something wrong. Just make sure you triple check that everything is connected properly and such before you power up your system.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst time SAPPHIRE buyer

Pros: Fast, tears through anything I play. 4GB gddr5 buffer, good for running games on Ultra. 512bit interface. Cooler keeps it quiet under load, and the factory overclock.

Cons: Power hungry? But what high end card isn't going to be.

Other Thoughts: This was my 2nd time buying an AMD card, and although hesitant, I was blown away with the results. My first experience was a HD 7850 (and later a 2nd one in XFire) after a previous competitors card died on me and I wasn't too happy with the drivers. I believe with these new R7 and R9 series they have fixed any conflict by having more focus on their high end, and they run flawlessly for me on Win 8.1. This beast of a card can run Battlefield 4 on Ultra without even breaking a sweat, even in the thick of it in 64 player battles. Another beauty, which the AMD promotion for buying it helped me get, is Star Citizen. The detail you can achieve with the 290X is mind blowing. With the out of the box overclock and the non-reference design cooler, it stays quiet and cool as well. Another possibly overlooked feature is Mantle. Just by launching games in this mode that have it supported, I've experienced an additional 10-20 FPS. I would highly suggest this card for anyone looking for a solid PCI-E 3.0, 4GB buffer, with wicked fast clock speeds that will stay strong for games to come. Even when this card is pushed to its limits, I'll probably just drop in another one via bridge-less Xfire.

1 out of 5 eggsAMD not good!

Pros: none

Cons: Have been building computers for 20yrs. Always stayed away from AMD until recently because I was being a cheapskate and a college had favorable things to say about the FX series. Big mistake. This GPU unit has had issues right out of the box. Newegg said they would except returns until jan 5th 2015 when I bought it on December 3rd 2014, and when I tried to return it they said we cannot accept returns for GPU's. WTH? Sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Now the video is laggy if I watch something simple like youtube even, and the sound is staticy(sound comes out of hdmi cable so runs through a buffer in gpu card). If I do get it to work without any overclocking or anything like that it will have problems within a week. All of my other hardware in this computer has been tested and operates 100%. And all is AMD FX 8350 compatible as well. Never had a problem with my Intel/Nvidia builds, should've stuck with it. Gotta save this for evidence though.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this or any other AMD. If you can't afford it, just save for months if you have to. Cause if not, it's like a used car. Every month you have to replace something new in it, until 1 yr down the road you have spent enough to buy a brand new car!

4 out of 5 eggsGood once it got a new firmware

Pros: The card seems fine and runs games well, I'm getting great frame rates, and it's dead quiet, which was my primary concern; i have noctua fans in case and when the thing is in full-sprint game mode, it's barely audible.

Tech support was a bit of a nightmare, see below:

Cons: Quite large - measure your case before trying to install. Tech support is pretty bad.

Other Thoughts: Upon install i got lots of random "black screens" - picture would drop out for 5-10 seconds, programs and audio would still running, then picture would re-appear. Was really maddening when trying to play games.

Emailed support, the sent me two files and said "flash the bios". That's it. No instructions. I emailed back and politely asked what to do with those files, that netted me a new email with a PDF that had some basic instructions. The PDF reference a file-uploading utility, took a third email to get that - but the uploading utility was for a different card!

The "fix" for the support guys, after about a dozen emails, was to remove the bios files for the uploader's card, replace them with the two files from the first email, burn that to a bootable DOS USB stick, and type in a command code.

Which didn't work.

So another email and they said "well, the files are different, so you need to use a different command, obviously".

In the end, I sent about 20 different emails and spent about 4 hours trying to figure out what these incommunicative dolts were trying to get me to do. I'm first to admit that I'm primarily a Mac user, I built a PC for gaming, so this is not a process I'm used to, but even for tech-saavy PC users this was maddening.

But come on, if you ship a card with clearly broken firmware, and you expect end users to fix your problems, can you take 5 minutes to put all the files people need into a single ZIP file and actually bother to write directions for that specific card?
