5 out of 5 eggsMulti-monitor/ GPU compute

Pros: I have this card running on an Asus Rampage IV Black edition with an Intel Extreme I7-3960X with 48GBs of DDR3-1866 RAM. Multi-monitor and GPU compute performance far exceeds my needs.

Cons: Even though the air cooler is one of the quieter ones, it still can be very annoying when GPU under load. I removed the OEM cooler and installed the appropriate EK Full Cover water block. Noise, clocks, performance are FAR better.

Other Thoughts: I have this card running on an Asus Rampage IV Black edition with an Intel Extreme I7-3960X with 48GBs of DDR3-1866 RAM. Multi-monitor and GPU compute performance far exceeds my needs.

2 out of 5 eggsSeriously disappointed.

Pros: Looked nice.
Ran great (for almost 3 weeks)

Cons: It just died. Out of nowhere and for seemingly no reason, it just went to black screen and after several attempts to get it working, it just wouldn't have it. Sometimes I would get to a login screen, other times I wouldn't. Never could get past it though before it went to Black Screen.

Other Thoughts: Bought this on 10/25, got it 10/30, but didn't get it installed until 11/7, and it ran great until 11/27 when it just decided to die.
I wasn't Overclocking it, was even using an 850w power supply to give it a little headroom over the recommended 750w, and I never ran any of my games past "high".

Personal note as to why this sucks -
I got up on Thanksgiving morning wanting to play some games on the first day off I've got in a while and !BAM!, D*** thing craps out 2 days after Newegg's 30day policy ends and since it is Thanksgiving day, I can't even get a hold of them to do anything about it.
Will definitely be on the phone first thing tomorrow and hopefully either Newegg or Sapphire can make this right.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Cheap

Cons: This card sucks. If your thinking of spending this much on a video card go with Nvidia. So far I had to reinstall Windows because a driver error caused the screen to go black and would not vew screens in safe mode wither. Then it crashes all the time playing any new games, Titanfall, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty Ghosts, you name it. It goes to blue screen then has to reboot. Also while im in these games the graphics look hazy, like there is a haze on your glasses or something. And it's glitchy. Apparently all AMD cards are this way because AMD drivers suck. Does not happen with Nvidia. Also I didn't open this and wanted to return Newegg would not take it back, even though in the add they said they would take it back till January 5th because of Xmas. Bull shizzer

Other Thoughts: Do not buy AMD. You'll think to yourself like I did, well Nvidia only has 2gb of ram at this price point and I get double the stream processors vs. 1200 Cuda Cores. Well Nvidia just flat out has no issues and is better to use. Even there software to monitor your card is better. AMD's you can't do anything with. If you want to find out what the safe max is to run your card at, you have to guess. With Nvidia you just hit a button that says BEST CONFIGURATION FOR THIS PC. Or whatever it says.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent performance with minimal noise

Pros: I bought the Tri-X R9 290x early 2014, and it has performed very well. I have used to for some gaming and altcoin mining (like bitcoin, but coins that use different algorithms) and it has done very well. Sapphire has an outstanding (if not the best) cooling solution for the R9 290 series (unlike asus they didn't recycle a cooler designed for a nvidia gpu (the nvidia chip is a different size) which means that the Sapphire cooler actually fits the gpu properly easy ring excellent cooling through good contact. My mining usage is more intense than the average gamers usage, yet the sapphire cooler handles the load very well and some how manages to avoid sounding like a jet engine at the same time. The card is also an excellent overclocker and is one of the few (if not only) single gpu cards that can break 1 gigahash on the scrypt algorithm (sapphire uses top of the line Hynix memory on this card which definitely helps). All in all I would definitely recommend this card to others, it truly is a beast.

Cons: The card is relatively large and there for won't fit in a small case (or even many middle sized cases); however why would you put this beauty in a small case?

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Every single AMD card i've ever owned up until this day has been a sapphire. Starting out with a sapphire 4870, followed by a sapphire 7950, now the sapphire R9 290X and all three still work till this day.

And i knew it would work. Sapphire is the highest quality video card manufacture in existence.

If you work in a computer store and you hold hundreds of video cards every year you would know without question that sapphire cards have the highest build quality of them all.

Sapphire is one of the only manufacture that goes the extra mile and removes the reference brand ELPIDA memory and installs HYNIX brand memory which has a much higher overclock ceiling and a significantly lower defection rate.

While others choose to be mindlessly bias towards which manufactures are good and which are "junk".. I actually do my research on which manufacture uses the highest quality components, transistors, capacitors, PCB, memory, Power units.. And without question sapphire uses the highest quality builds of any manufacture.

And sapphire is one of the only video card brands that actually sit down and innovate ways to improve upon reference designs. Sapphire has always had come up with the most effective cooling solutions time and time again.

And It's proven that people are more likely to go online and write a review if they have a negative experience. So thats why i think this card has a lot of dead card reviews. I have been ordering parts from newegg for years and i can't recall one time i've ever got something simple DEAD. I have a feeling user error has a lot to do with these failures.

Perhaps these negative reviewers are using low quality power supplies with too little volts on the 12 volt rail. Or they are not going the extra mile to download the latest beta drivers which have resolved these issues.

Cons: I literally had to hammer my HDD drive bay out of my computer case just to get this huge card to fit

2 out of 5 eggsShould not have gone with Sapphire

Pros: It worked great when it was working. The temps were nice and low and games played and looked very nice.

Cons: As others have said, it works great and then it prematurely fails. I had it installed for three days and then it failed. I wasn't even playing a game when it happened. I was on the internet checking email.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, I have been too busy to install the card in my pc until after the 30 warranty with Newegg. Now I have to go through Sapphire support... I should not have to pay so much money for a card like this then have to pay more because it doesn't work. They should be paying the customers for the exchange if they want to keep them. I was hesitant to buy a card from Sapphire in the first place. This just confirms my anxiety. Never again. Maybe I should try the green side next time.

3 out of 5 eggsgood until it died

Pros: Ran great, allowed me to install basic pc needs.

Cons: Lasted me 4 hrs and then I lost input.... Very dissapointed for a defective expensive graphics card

Other Thoughts: For 370 Dlls it shouldn't fail at all...

5 out of 5 eggsWhy I Like SAPPHIRE

Pros: Quiet, smooth operation of games. Allows running maximum settings on almost everything, the only exception I have found is running Shadow of Mordor at 200% resolution scaling while having all other settings maxed (including Anti-Aliasing) caused framerate issues but it ran perfect with everything maxed at 150%. I wouldn't say that is any negativity against it as from what I've read you should turn off Anti-Aliasing when over-scaling in it.

I have had no issues with this running anything and loved it so much I actually bought a second, though I with crossfire did not require full screen gaming (understandably though) as I much prefer to use full screen windowed vs full screen exclusive mode.

Cons: Sometimes gets a little loud when pushing the limits but loudness aside it keeps it from overheating so it isn't really much of a con for me.

Other Thoughts: I have used SAPPHIRE products off and on for years and they have always been reliable and perform well for me. The R9 290X is no different, it performs amazingly well and runs smooth with all games I have tried it with. I now run 2 cards with crossfire and could not be happier with it's performance. The noise is minimal most of the time and they do not even come close to the thermal maximum when running high-end games at maximum settings. I am a long time gamer and I strongly recommend SAPPHIRE and the R9 290X Tri-X OC.
