5 out of 5 eggsLove Sapphire

Pros: I know I should give a long review of everything about it, but ill keep it short. This card is a beast, sapphire really has outdone themselves again. A 290 with triple cooling AND comes out of the box overclocked past a standard 290x?? This thing rocks. I don't even hear it, it actually taking less power than my last card which was 4 years old, AND it just plain looks cool to. 5 stars.

Cons: Only thing I did not like is how large it is, but hey its a power house so I was prepared for it. Still maintains its 5 star with me, this should not prevent you from buying it unless it legitimately doesn't fit in your case.

Other Thoughts: Love it, probably won't replace it for the next 4ish years. Just make sure to do some measurements of your case beforehand

4 out of 5 eggsGood card for the price

Pros: Very well priced for the power! I thought this card would be extremely loud with the 3 fans but it's definitely quieter than my CPU cooler.

Cons: The first card I received had the typical black screen problem. I received a new card and haven't had a problem since.

Other Thoughts: If you can get past the problems with getting faulty cards, it's a great card for the price. I'd give it 5 stars if I didn't have to return the first one.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Nice physical design

Cons: The card keeps getting huge GPU spikes every 15 minutes or so, making my entire system shut down.

Looking around the web, this seems to be a common occurrence with R9 290s. I tried regulating it using a large amount of software (GPU Tweak, Afterburner) but nothing works. The card has a lot of potential but is completely crippled from a lack of reliability.

Other Thoughts: This happened to me before with Sapphire (several years ago). Safe to say, I'm avoiding them from here on out. I'd recommend you do the same.

Pros: Works well when it works.

Cons: Crashes most of the time. Popped my old card in and crashes completely disappeared. Will see if the one after the RMA works.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat I expected

Pros: It is not loud as many reviews online have stated. It's actually quieter than my system fans. Perhaps it's because what I'm running isn't pushing the card to its limits.

Runs everything I have at the highest setting at 60fps. The games I play aren't the most involved graphically (Sniper Elite 3, Stranded Deep, KSP, Civ 5).

Cons: It was too large for my stock mid tower. I had to take an angle grinder to the hard drive rack inside my case to effectively remove one of the drive bays so the card could fit. This was a Lian Li case that isn't made any more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112192

Other Thoughts: I'm running this on a PCI-E 2.0 motherboard (Asus P6T).

2 out of 5 eggsBlack Screens

Pros: The card came quickly and worked very well for a few days.

I gave two eggs because Newegg customer service is so fantastic. They offered real solutions and worked with me so that I would be satisfied. Otherwise, this would have been a one egg review.

Cons: I started getting black screens on the third day after installing. I researched a fix and found the numerous reports about the card being known for this. It is really a dice roll. I contacted Sapphire tech support for a fix and they asked me two questions and then told me to return it. They didn't seem surprised that I was having black screens. They didn't even make any attempt to resolve the issue. They Just asked if I had the same problem with the VGA output that I was having with the HDMI and then told me to RMA it. It took them around a day to respond to each of my messages as well. By the way, there is no phone support for Sapphire. You have to open a ticket with them and wait for a response. Very frustrating.

Other Thoughts: I RMAed the card and ordered a Sapphire 290x instead. Have had the card for 8 days without a blacks screen. If you order a 290 be prepared to RMA it.

1 out of 5 eggsDriver Issues

Pros: Seems like a great card, looks great, specs are great.

Cons: AMD doesnt help with all the driver issues. I purchased mine about a week ago and i have yet to figure out how to actually use it. the drivers provided are not working and the drivers provided by AMD's website all give me the "Install Package Failure" and will not download. Do not recommend this card to anyone.

1 out of 5 eggsNothing but a headache

Pros: None

Cons: I won't go in to a 3000 character dissertation. Go to ADM forums read up on the driver and hardware issues on the 290 series, look in to the black screen crashes and then make the decision for yourself if you would like to purchase this card. I would not recommend it to anyone - I should have stuck with NVidia

5 out of 5 eggsSuper awesome!

Pros: I upgraded from a Sapphire HD 6870 to this beast. I have had no issues at this point. It is quiet and stable. I have only played two games, Dragon Age Inquisition and Left-4-Dead2, on ultra settings @1920 X 1080, and it runs them very well without flinching. I'm very satisfied with my purchase thus far!!

Cons: No issues yet!! I guess you could say the price is a tad high for some people...

Other Thoughts: My system:
1. Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, rev.4
2 AMD FX8350
3. Samsung EVO 850 (250gb) x1
4. G-Skill Ripsaw 4 x4gb, 1600mhz
5. this GPU
6. Corsair CX750M PSU
7. Rosewill Armor-EVO gaming mid tower case
8. Cool Master Hyper 212 EVO
9. Seagate 2g HD x 2
This GPU runs flawlessly. I have not experienced any of the issues reported here on this forum. Initially, I was a bit hesitant after reading all these bad reviews, but I'm glad I didn't let those bad reviews influence my decision because I have been using Sapphire graphics for years without any problems.
