1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None yet.

Cons: I haven't had a chance to use the device or grade the performance yet but I just received it today DOA due to a broken HDMI port. I have to pay shipping for the RMA and wait at least another week to finally try the device. Absolutely ridiculous. Hope I can give a review soon.

5 out of 5 eggsSmooth and sexy

Pros: Smooth graphics
Sexy card
Stays Cool

Cons: It's huge. I had to play a bit of tetris getting this thing in, but it worked out.

Other Thoughts: So far have played Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, and various Valve games. All play smoothly on ultra settings without any effort. Couldn't ask for more.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Upgraded from a Radeon 6950 that went belly-up after I left it in the motherboard while moving (silly me...), so far it's a nice buy, runs all the games I play on max settings at 1920x1080 without any hitches. Dual cooling fans work well, too. Runs cooler than the 6950.

Cons: As with all AMD products, comes with the dreadful Catalyst Control Center, which is almost a requirement to use the card effectively. Also didn't come with a VGA to DVI adapter so I had to use the one from my 6950 in order to work with my non-HDMI capable monitor.

3 out of 5 eggsFYI BYB

Pros: Fair performance card.
Most games run fine.

Cons: Seems like theres no fan control in the GPU Bios (see below).

Other Thoughts: After having this card for a while and being pleased with it, I decided to work on my Diablo 3 char. After several disappointing gaming sessions ending with random colored screens with vertical stripes running down (and a completely frozen computer) I decided something needed to be done. After scouring the Internet for quite some time I read some posts that suggested that heat might be the problem. Opening the Catalyst Control Center, and clicking OverDrive showed an idle temp of 28 C and a fan speed of 20%. Started up the game and after a bit the temp rose to about 70 C with a fan speed of...... 20%....... After turning on the OverDrive, under clocking to 920MHz, and setting the fan speed to 60% there were no more problems. Now running the fans at 60% all the time is just annoying (the hum or buzz not to mention the possible decrease in fan life). So I set out to find some software to control this problem. Turns out Sapphire has a light weight program that loads with Windows called TriXX. It's nice that they provide this but silly that I should have the install software to do something that the hardware should do on its own. Hopefully they will consider this on their new cards.

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: Sometimes it will work.

Cons: Most of the time it doesn't.

Other Thoughts: Three months after I got the card it started displaying wavy horizontal lines after a period of time regardless of temp, monitor, resolution or clock speed. I have underclocked the card, I have changed monitors and I have changed resolutions and it still inevitably fails. Despite a well-ventilated dust free case it has also never run at the temps that it was advertised at.

I'll leave a review of the travesty that is AMD's Catalyst Control Center that comes packaged with the standard drivers for another time. Anyway, good luck with yours but you'd probably be better off with an Nvidia card that's what I'm going back to.

1 out of 5 eggsbad product, poor performance

Pros: none

Cons: product is poor. performance of product is poor.

Other Thoughts: no other comments allowed.

Manufacturer Response:

The R9 270 should get 30+ FPS in current games at 1920x1080 HD resolution.

Please be sure to install the latest drivers from the AMD website to get the maximum performance.

You can find out what performance to expect from benchmarks.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Can run Titan Fall ultra with 1080p. Card never goes above 60 degrees C and I'm slightly overclocking. I'm impressed with this card.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: No PhysX so keep that in mind with any AMD. Requires min. 500w PSU, crossfired min. 600w.
