The Sapphire Ultimate 100368USR Radeon R7 250 is powered by an AMD Radeon R7 250 GPU, the latest AMD graphics technology that delivers evolved performance and lower power consumption at a budget-friendly price. Radeon R7 250 is based on AMD generation 28nm GCN architecture, and comes with support for DirectX 11.2 for improved graphics in the hottest games. AMD App Acceleration boosts your everyday applications. And with DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort connectors, you can build multi-monitor environments for enhanced views and better productivity.

This model is also equipped with a passive heatpipe and a heatsink that deliver efficient and effective cooling at the "zilch" noise level.

  • newegg Passive Cooling The Sapphire R7 250 Ultimate is the first card in this generation to use a passive heatpipe and a heatsink cooler with no fan to deliver totally silent cooling and increased reliability, as it has no mechanical moving parts. It’s great for HTPCs and any general purpose PC where operational noise needs to be kept to a minimum.
  • newegg DirectX 11.2 The tessellation performance on the AMD Radeon R7/R9 series is up to two times faster than the previous generation, and DirectCompute performance is also faster to accelerate advanced post-processing, filtering, and anti-aliasing techniques. Direct X11 games have never looked this good.
  • newegg Mantle There’s optimization, and then there’s Mantle. Games enabled with Mantle speak the language of GCN architecture to unlock revolutionary performance and image quality. It’s a game-changing innovation developed by AMD.
  • newegg AMD App Acceleration AMD App Acceleration is a set of technologies designed to improve video quality and enhance application performance. Full enablement of some features requires support for OpenCL, DirectCompute, or DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA).
  • newegg AMD PowerTune Technology AMD PowerTune is a breakthrough technology that sets an entirely new direction for maximum performance at TDP. It allows the GPU to be designed with higher engine clock speeds which can be applied on the broad set of applications that have thermal headroom.
  • newegg AMD HD3D Technology Enjoy the most immersive experience possible with full support for High Definition Stereoscopic 3D, a technique that presents 2D images (movies, games, photos) in a format that creates the illusion of three-dimensional depth when using compatible 3D displays/glasses/software.

2 out of 5 eggsStill need a fan.

Pros: Silent. Looks killer with heatsink wrapped around it. Capable of playing the major titles. Although in a limited fashion with the settings turned way down.

Cons: Pretty weak GPU in today's market. It's not very fun to play the latest title and have to turn all the wow factor down so that you get a decent frame rate (720p on Battlefield 4 with most settings on medium).

You will need air movement over this card or it will get very hot. I was going for a silent, totally passive, gaming computer. While under load the temps were reaching 100°C on the card and the inside of the case was toasty. So a case fan blowing on or near this card is necessary if you want to utilize it. There by negating the nature of this card.

5 out of 5 eggsDual Graphics

Pros: -Noiseless Design

Cons: -Can get a little hot if your case doesn't have fans or decent airflow

Other Thoughts: -You CAN'T use R7 250 graphics cards with GDDR5 memory to Dual Graphics with a A10-7850k Kaveri APU
-You CAN use R7 250 graphics cards with GDDR3 memory to Dual Graphics with a A10-7850k Kaveri APU
-From my understanding by reading about it in some forums but don't quote me on it

1 out of 5 eggsReplacement card DOA Display Port

Pros: None

Cons: My replacement card came with a dud Display Card port. DVI and HMDI worked but Display Port was dead, yes really dead. Swapped out with NVIDIA card and Display Port was fine so that eliminated my monitor and cable.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected!

Pros: - Silent as promised!
- Doesn't get too hot during gaming

Cons: - Big? But I had room in case
- May need to bump up fans in case?
- Can't run 4k games at 60fps of course

Other Thoughts: I got this because my old GTX240 was sweating on games and making way too much noise. The noise was certainly due in part to an accumulation of dust, but I was planning on doing some driving games so an upgrade was in order.

Settled on this card due to generally favorable reviews and silent operation. I installed it in a Dell tower chassis as the only PCI card so lots of room around it.

I've been playing Grid Autosport for the past few days at 2560x1440 on a 27" Dell U2711. I get varying average frame rates depending on the quality setting: High (30fps), Medium (45fps), Low (60fps). I have not touched the drivers since installing, so there may be some gains to be had there. Overall though, the game looks great.

So obviously this isn't a performance beast, but hits the sweet spot for me between value, performance and most of all quiet operation...

1 out of 5 eggsDied in 8 weeks

Pros: Quiet, fast, crisp text.

Cons: Died after 8 weeks. Screen went blank. Reboot in safe mode and set resolution to 800x600. Rebooted and worked fine in 800x600. Any other mode is a blank screen. Replaced with an Asus NVDIA and all is well. Looks like I don't buy another Saphire card for a while.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent card

Pros: Decent performace. 3DMark 11 has score of P3053.
Recommed to get latest WHQL driver from Sapphire website. Peformace equal to the discontinued Sapphire 7750 Ultimate.

Cons: Would have liked Sapphire to have incremented or add more shader units instead of simply rebranding the 7750 Hd Ultimate to r7 250 ult.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from Sapphire 5670 Ultimate to Sapphire R7 250 Ultimate. The performance in 3DMark11 doubled.

Sapphire 5670 Ult. 3dmark11: P1688
Sapphire r7 250 Ult. 3dmark11:P3053

Sys. specs. windows 7 64 bit on PCI express 1.1 x16 slot

2 out of 5 eggsNOT that Ultimate...

Pros: -Recognizes as an R7 200 Series Card.
-512 Shaders
-under $100

Cons: -NOT an Oland chipset
-IS a Cape Verde chip
-CANNOT Dual Graphics with Kaveri

Other Thoughts: *** DUAL GRAPHICS - READ THIS ***
I took the risk of buying this to see if it would Dual Graphics with Kaveri. If anyone knows something about this tech and combo, the Kaveri has 512 shaders and the 250's normally have 384. This throws the sync off a little bit and doesn't allow true crossfire as it was originally intended.
That's what the beta drivers and Frame Pacing have fixed. However, this "250" has 512 and offered a chance to sync properly and should make Dual Graphics run properly and synchronously.
BUT this is actually a Cape Verde chip (actual 7750, not "rebranded" like some call the R Series) updated with Mantle and R7 features. Cape Verde chips cannot communicate with Kaveri like the Oland can. THAT is the real difference between the Radeon 7000 and R Series GPUs, the chipsets.
I tried every combo of settings between the IGP/PEG and Shared Memory in Bios, and the 13.12, 13.30RC3, 14.2 and newest 14.3 beta drivers from AMD. Not once did the option appear in Catalyst.
Always had whichever adapter I had my monitor plugged into as the Primary Adapter, and the other was the Disabled Adapter. Device Manager showed both as enabled.
FYI, I used DDU in Safe Mode to uninstall the drivers like EVERYONE should before changing or updating Display Drivers. If anyone can get this to work, LET ME KNOW. But since there is barely ANY info on the Dual Graphics compatability, I intend to provide as many details as possible.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry that you are having problems with crossfire.

This is an AMD driver issue. If the correct driver is used from the SAPPHIRE website or the original Driver CD, then it will show correctly as an R7 250 and Crossfire will be enabled.

This should be fixed in future AMD driver releases
