5 out of 5 eggsMore than enough

Pros: Well, I bought it for 199.99 at the time, and that's a super pro considering it out performs the GTX 760 in 90% of games.

Stays relatively cool in a hot environment

Not loud

Cons: None really, kind of wish it had another DVI-I instead of DVI-D but that's not really a big deal.

Other Thoughts: Great card price to performance ratio is pretty amazing. +Recommend

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent GPU for Price

Pros: Excellent GPU performance for the price. For 164 after rebate, I was very happy. This GPU can max most games at 1080p. It also has 3gb of ram which will help it age a little better than a 760 with newer games. I was pleased with my card as it didn't have any coil whine and came with hynix memory.

Cons: There are two Sapphire 280s listed on newegg and one was cheaper. Newegg did not price match it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood card but Defective

Pros: Runs well in most games.
Can handle 1080p 50fps (I like when games run 25 for some reason)
Runs cool most of the time

Cons: My card was defective when I got it. Constant crashes, text was messed up, and wasn't being detected.

Other Thoughts: Sent back to sapphire to get fixed. Don't use support tickets. Just email them directly. Process was easy. Will update when I receive the card

3 out of 5 eggsBad experience; Good card

Pros: I bought this card in August and it's a great video card. It can handle all of the latest games with ease on the highest settings. I do however have multiple issues with it and the company.

Cons: I've been so busy lately but when I was cleaning I remembered I had never received my rebate from them. It showed as received and processed but I never got it. I would rather you just take the $20 off at the time of purchase because if I can even get my refund then I just gave a 3 month 0% interest loan.

After a quick Google search I came across popular tech forums and learned that many people experienced a higher amount of issues with the rebate when it came to Sapphire than other companies. I was surprised because I have never had this issue before.

Besides this , the fans on the card make a substantial amount of noise at seemingly random intervals. It is not the spinning of them specifically but it appears to be some kind of a defect in the way that they spin at times due to the speed. It must be a known design flaw because others on YouTube have noted it as well if you search. It's very annoying.

All in all it's a powerful card but I kind of wish I did not venture away from the brands I was familiar with like EVGA.

Other Thoughts: I would probably not buy from Sapphire again because there are substitutes for their products.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy for OpenGL games

Pros: None for me

Cons: Xplane (OpenGL flight sim) performance is worse than my EVGA GTX 560Ti on Linux and Windows 8.1 with latest drivers. 18fps on the 280 vs 25fps for 560Ti which is a 4 generation old card on a AMD 8350fx with 8GB ram.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card. Price makes it an excellent buy

Pros: Yes, this card really is a rebadged HD 7950 running an updated BIOS. However this isn't a bad thing, and just like the 7950, this card overclocks astoundingly well. From the stock 940 MHz (Sapphire stock that is, AMD reference stock is 850 Mhz) i was able to lift the core frequency into the 1100+ MHz range with only a slight voltage increase, and the memory frequency could be pushed into the 1600+ Mhz range with no visual artifacts appearing on the screen. Now i don't recommend overclocking if you're new to this and have no idea how to go about it as it is risky to push extra voltage into the core, or hike the frequencies past certain ranges; this paragraph is aimed at the person who wishes to squeeze even more performance out if this card. With a decent overclock, you can have a card that is on par with its big brother, the R9 280X and big bro's main rival over at the green camp, the GTX 770. While my overclocks are decent (and while i also don't recommend the overclocks in the next sentence since those people had to push their voltages to unsafely high amounts), i've seen some people manage to get their core into the 1250 MHz+ zone, and their memory clocks rocketed into the stratospheric 1700+ MHz range, so take this as a loose guide of what to expect when OCing this card.

As for gaming, it runs all my games at highest settings at pleasant frame rates, and the only time i noticed hiccuping when i ran Unigine Heaven simultaneously on two 1920 x 1080 monitors, but even then the lowest i saw during that grueling test was 25 FPS. The R9 280's opponent seems to be the GTX 760, and as most benchmarks have shown, the R9 280 comes out ahead in most non-Physx dependent games.

Cons: I guess the only thing i can whine about is that i found the exterior styling to be too bland and conservative for me, especially when compared to what the HIS, MSI, and Asus 280's look like, but for the price, getting the Sapphire made sense. And seriously, i won't care that much about something that will spend most of its time inside my computer case.

Also, this is a somewhat audible card, so don't expect ninja-silent gaming.

Other Thoughts: It's a 10.5 inch card. It fit easily into my microATX case, but it's always wise to measure the amount of space you have ahead of your PCIe x16 port before buying a video card.

5 out of 5 eggsMagnificent

Pros: Beautiful card especially for the price! (got mine for around 200 right after the coin mining boom died down) Plays Shadow of Mordor maxed out at 1080p at well over 60fps (didn't bench it), Install the punishing HD texture pack and with a couple tweaks and it still runs great on ultra/1080p. Fans are whisper quiet, I've never managed to hear them. And the heatsink is so well designed I went to dust it after 5 months and to my surprise it barely accumated any! Compare that to my CPU fan which gets a fur coat every 2 months. Low maintenance, Low Noise, Serious power. AMD has won back my business from the green team!

Cons: Power consumption is high, over 200 watts actual draw during peak performance. It's basically a re-badged 7950, which isn't much of a con since the 7950 was also an amazing card

Other Thoughts: Too bad the 3 free game downloads were lousy choices...
