5 out of 5 eggsSaphire Radeon HD 6970

Pros: Works great with Vegas 13, I can now render .mpg files in 20 minutes instead of 60. Plays all the games I need it to great- Skyrim, I-racing and Star Wars the Old Republic

Cons: It's a little loud when put under full load, you'll need a good high wattage power supply with this. I have a 750 watt, it's rated at a minimum 550 watt. Doesn't support DX-12 but for what I'm using it for I don't care.

Other Thoughts: For around $100 this is by far the best purchase I made for Vegas. It performs better than some cards costing 5x as much or more. It previews in the highest quality and doesn't hicup with putting text overlays or transitions. I am absolutely amazed. As far as gaming goes, it's about the equivalent of a GTX 750ti. It's a great buy if you already have a good power supply. Highly recommended for Vegas 13.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card, great price

Pros: Great performing card for the price. Fairly quiet; the two large fans are much more silent then the blow-through type coolers. The lack of side badging is a plus for me too, I hate looking through the side case window and seeing a bunch of branding stickers...

Cons: LARGE! Barely fits in my Antec 902 case, had to rearrange my HD setup to fit it. It's snug, but it's in. The 6 and 8 pin plugs are in an awkward spot, but that's the case on most cards... Would much rather have them face forward instead of the side to get rid of some of the clutter.

Other Thoughts: I got this card to replace a failing XFX 4870 HD 1gb that was the better part of 7 years old. Although that card did well for what I needed, I figure what better time to step up in performance, and I'm very satisfied with this 6970. I have yet to put it through it's paces in anything graphically demanding, but I have a feeling I will not be disappointed. Highly recommend :)

5 out of 5 eggsNice affordable mid-range card

Pros: This card contains 2 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256 bit memory interface. The card supports monitors with DVI-I, HDMI, or Display Port interfaces. The card has dual fans that are relatively quiet running at 54% when under 100% GPU load. Under a normal load the fan speed hovers at 20%.

The card indicates that you need a power supply with a minimum of 550 watts. There are a lot of inexpensive power supplies that claim a rating of 550 to 650 watts of power. Unfortunately, if the truth were known they are only capable of a true 300 to 450 watts of power. The video card has a 8-pin and a 6-pin power connectors. So make sure that you have a power supply that has the necessary cables to support the card. I have a 750 watt power supply in this computer. If your power supply doesn't have these two connectors then I would NOT recommend looking for a molex to PCI-E adapter. Instead I would spend the money and invest in a better power supply.

Cons: This card did not come with a DVI to DB15 adapter. However, a person buying this level of card wouldn't normally be using a monitor with the old analog connection anyway.

Other Thoughts: I stressed this video card using a program called FurMark. When I started the test the GPU temps were at 35-36 degrees Celsius. Under a full load the GPU temps only reached 69 degrees Celsius. Since the maximum temperature for this GPU is around 100 degrees Celsius the stock cooler allows some room for overclocking. I do not overclock so I did not test the card to see how far it could be safely pushed.

This is the second card that I have purchased. I installed the first card in my daughter's machine and I was so impressed with it that I bought another one for my own machine. This card has enough horse power to handle all of your normal work and also play most of the games at a reasonable frame rate. That is saying a lot for a $100.00 card.

If you are wanting a video card with decent resolution that will handle your normal tasks and also allow you to play most games then this card should not disappoint you.

4 out of 5 eggsstill a good card!

Pros: for an older card not supported for the extra benifits for Direct X 12 it hold up pretty well even with today's gaming titles especially when paired with the fx-6300.

Cons: get hot really easilly, and the fans sound like a jet engine taking off!, however if you have a case that supports at least 6, 120mm fans then your in the clear.

Other Thoughts: the heatsink design is well built with copper heat pipes, but sapphire should have done a little better job on the fans.

2 out of 5 eggsOld Technology, but still works (kinda)

Pros: Runs cool for a 6970 (compared to original I own, 4 years old), quieter than original (original design sounded like a jet engine taking off when the fan speed increased), can still play newer games on medium - high (not the best ones probably though). Used to be top Single GPU AMD card when I bought the first one from XFX.

Cons: Came defective (circuit board (or PCB) came with a bend that gradually got worse towards the 6 and 8 pin power plug side), plus Newegg shipped it to me with the seal on the product box already broken, not sure why that was sliced or what sliced it. Wasn't an open box item. RMA'd the first one, second one same defect, gave up and installed it. No sense returning multiple times for another bad quality replacement. Sapphire doesn't seem to know what quality control is, or they knew the cards were junk and sold them anyway. Second card from them (first card is was a really old HD 4670). Was not impressed with the first card either, will not use them again. HDMI plug on it is also defective, sends no signal. Verified by plugging in my other XFX 6970, which is really old, HDMI works fine. Newest drivers. Still no signal.

Other Thoughts: I should probably test the other plugs too now that I know the HDMI was dead on arrival. Card was taken care of very well, it should not have a broken HDMI. Didn't know though until I bought a new monitor with only HDMI ports (no DVI). Good thing the monitor came with a DVI to HDMI cable. It does run much cooler and quieter than my old one though, so I guess they improved the design since this was the top single GPU AMD card 4 years ago. That is the only good thing about this card, that and that it can play games good enough or at least ok. I bought it for crossfire but crossfire is a power hog anyway, not worth it.

4 out of 5 eggsNot sure

Pros: Cheap card will play all the latest games on high with decent frames.

Cons: This thing runs hot 151 degrees during games and that is too much for my HTPC i have to leave the case open and find a good cooling solution.

Other Thoughts: My fault buying this for a HTPC knowing it was a power hungry heat making machine. See how long it lasts just seems to run way too hot.

1 out of 5 eggsDoA

Pros: Price
Low power footprint for performance

Cons: DoA

Other Thoughts: defective model. Boots into O/S, won't run a game to save it's life. Seems to be a 50/50 with this card, but if you get a good one it's worth it. Personally, I'm over trying to RMA, and I've lost patience. The only reason I know it performs so well is because my dad has one...his luck was better than mine. I'll spend more money for something that works the first time around.

5 out of 5 eggsNice card for the money

Pros: Replaced an HD5870 I bought on here years ago for less than half the cost, the 6970 is faster and has more memory. Installed with no problems, comes with the card and CD,that's it. The fans aren't any louder than my previous card.

An all around good card, very happy. Got mine for 89.99 plus shipping.

Cons: None
