5 out of 5 eggsPerfect upgrade

Pros: Great performance
Worked well with over clocking
Perfect performance with a great price tag

Cons: "Forced me" to upgrade everything else (case included) to match its performance, this getting me in hot water with the wife. Wait, only half is a con.

Other Thoughts: I bought my pc from a big box company not knowing a thing about pc's or what to look for on a gaming rig. I walked out with a $600 pain in my side. So the other month I decided to upgrade my graphics from onboard (told you I got taken) to this gem. Negative is that I have now dropped an additional $600 so far and I am getting a gaming rig done right, and it all started with this sapphire!

The new card resulted on me having to get a new power supply, thus bottle necking my cpu. So of course I upgraded that and the mother board. And what's a new pc with out upgrading storage to SSD.

1 out of 5 eggsoverheated every 10 min of gaming

Pros: none that I saw

Cons: Card was ridiculously heavy for starters. after I hooked it up and installed the latest drivers the card overheated and caused a crash after 10 min of gaming every time! even downgraded the voltage and clock. didn't help. Got a 750ti instead and it was much better!

5 out of 5 eggsHD6970 Budget gaming system

Pros: Cheap. 2gb memory. Non-reference cooling.

Cons: Replaced an nVidia card in a budget gaming tower my son uses because the buffer was only 1gb. Not really a con as it turned out not to be the card, but heres my experience if it helps anyone else. Installed the card with the latest drivers from AMD(14.4) and on day 2 (didn't get to mess with it much after install) the system started hanging (long freezes) and throwing BSOD after gaming roughly 20mins. Removed the card and installed it in my own tower (Win 7) and it ran error free. Installed back into other tower (Win XP) and it went back to misbehaving. Uninstalled Cat. 14.4 and installed 13.4 from the included driver disk and haven't had an error in over 24 hours with many many hours of hectic Borderlands 2 co-op. Errors and crashes have all stopped. I can only conclude that Microsoft ending support for XP means 14.4 isn't WHQL for XP.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed pretty fast

Pros: I replaced my HD6950 with this card for the performance to price ratio. The DualX fan setup is very quiet and the card stayed nice and chilly in my case.

Cons: As soon as the card was installed I got some artifacts, "fish tanking" as i like to call it. Checked the driver and tried a beta version, seemed to solve the problem. Next day the screen would randomly freeze, go blank, and return with "driver failed and was restored." Finally, on the third day of ownership, after about 30 minutes I got horizontal lines followed quickly by "no signal." Put it into another system and got the same results. Then also put my old HD6950 back in and had no trouble at all. RMA time, will update when new card is in.

Other Thoughts: I was a little nervous about the lack of reviews for this particular card. Usually I purchase products that have a good amount of reviews so I can get an idea of what sort of things to be looking for while I use the product (noise, heat, compatibility issues and so on). I couldn't pass up the price so, unfortunately, I impulsed this one. I have since done some research on common HD6970 problems and this seems to be one of them. I will say however that Sapphire has a pretty knowledgeable and easy to use customer service line as well as online technical support. This is my first Sapphire product and I am pleased with the company in how they have handled everything with me. No matter what your getting there is always a chance for failure so having good customer service is paramount and, in my opinion, Sapphire hits the mark well.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry that you have had problems with your graphics card.

We do hope that your RMA with Newegg goes smoothly

1 out of 5 eggsArtifacts galore

Pros: I had no issues when installing the card. Be aware that it's quite large, and that it takes two power plugs. The card did come with two molex power adapters.

Cons: Got visual artifacts after Windows Update installed drivers and switched to a higher resolution after reboot.

Now I get to play the RMA game...

I'm going to have it replaced. The box that the card came in was not damaged in any way.

Other Thoughts: I'll update this review after I get a working card.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Strong, lots of stream processors.

Cons: Low clock frequency.

Other Thoughts: Purchased as a cheap replacement to my old 6870 that died, 99$ can't beat it price vs performance. I noticed little to no performance increase. But much wasn't expected, the 6870 can handle a lot.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat graphics card for the price!

Pros: For the price, it's a steal considering it's as powerful as a r7 265, which is $30 more. Yes, it uses more power and it is long, but it still delivers a lot of frames for a great price.

Cons: It is long. It will hang and it could warp. After a little work, some fishing line easily supported the end of this beastly card.

Uses more power than a R7 265 and runs warmer.

Noose isn't bad, but you'll know it's there if you're listening for it.
