Great card got better.
- Pros: This is a follow up to my previous review. The fan problem was not card related but rather software related. The newest software and drivers now allow me to set the fan to an inaudible 25% and it keeps the card just as cool.
- Cons: I wasn't patient enough.
- Other Thoughts: Frog still looks pretty angry.

Manufacturer Response:I'm very happy you got that worked out!!!
Great card, free stuff, a bit loud.
- Pros: It's a 9800 GT, basically rebranded 8800 GT which was a great card from a great series. For a 100 after MIR it's well worth it over something mid-range. The heatsink and fan on the card keep the temps very low, about 43-45c on the desktop and watching movies and 52-55c playing Fallout 3, Ut3 and DMC4 maxed out.
My card also came with a free, unadvertised on Newegg, key for 3dMark Vantage advanced edition. You have to download somewhere yourself though.
- Cons: The fan on the card is loud, especially if the rest of your computer is mostly silent. I've tried to lower the speed through various programs like Speedfan, ntune and vtune which came with the card (and also a very common program that Newegg seems to find offensive) and used a few different drivers too. I could increase the speed of the fan but once I decreased it from its default, it would jump back up to 100%. I think this might be something the nvidia 9 series does from the BIOS, some kind of safe gaurd override that I don't know how to disable. I'd trade a few degrees higher for a quiter system but I guess I'll just have to get used to it.
I wish I could give this a 4.5.
- Other Thoughts: The card I got seems to be a bit revised from what is advertised in the picture. My board is red rather than green. The box was also different, with the frog looking a lot angrier and positioned like he was going to back hand me, not that you care but it might frighten small children?
The free copy of 3dmark Vantage was a nice unexpected extra, but I'll probably only use it a couple times, would have gotten more use out of one of those free copies of Tomb Raider Anniversary Palit were handing out with the 9600gt. I guess free is free.

Manufacturer Response:That's a little strange you can't control the fan speed correctly. If you'd like to return it I'd be happy to replace the card for you.
Great performance for the $
- Pros: Very slick card, well made and solid GPU cooler. You can tell Palit cares about its products.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: My 2nd one, 1st the same as this one!

Manufacturer Response:Sweet! Keep buying them- we love the business. Glad you like the card.
