Step up to the GeForce GT 740 to take your gaming to the next level of graphics and power efficiency. Based on the industry-leading 28nm Kepler architecture, the GeForce GT 740 packs powerful NVIDIA SMX shaders and abundant amounts of memory that deliver a performance punch in all the latest 3D games and applications. An array of NVIDIA innovations, such as NVIDIA Surround, NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync, and the new TXAA Anti-aliasing Mode, offers more than one way to elevate your gaming experience, bringing your user experience for work and play to a new level like never before.

This model is factory-overclocked to give you more gaming juice out of the box.

  • newegg NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing; at low framerates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround with Up To Four Monitors Nothing is as breathtaking as playing your favorite games across three monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages human peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators. Add a fourth display to keep tabs on chat, email, or the web while you are gaming.
  • newegg TXAA Anti-Aliasing Anti-aliasing helps to smooth out jagged lines in games. Existing techniques like MSAA are effective at removing jagged lines in still images, but struggle with crawling and shimmering artifacts when the player is in motion. TXAA is a new anti-aliasing mode that combines MSAA, temporal filtering, and post processing for the highest edge quality and minimal shimmering during gameplay.
  • newegg NVIDIA 3D Vision Ready NVIDIA 3D Vision brings a fully immersive, stereoscopic 3D experience to the PC. A combination of high-tech wireless glasses and advanced software, 3D Vision transforms hundreds of PC games into full stereoscopic 3D. Get up to two times the monitor and keyboard brightness with NVIDIA 3D LightBoost technology. In addition, you can enjoy 3D movies and 3D digital photographs from 3DVisionLive.com in eye-popping, crystal-clear quality.
  • newegg NVIDIA PhysX Technology Full support for NVIDIA PhysX technology, enabling a totally new class of physical gaming interaction for a more dynamic and realistic experience with GeForce.

5 out of 5 eggsSingle slot solution

Pros: Takes up only one slot
Silent
No extra power cord needed.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I bought the GT 740 to help open up my case,
I have an Avatar FX 8120 brand computer that came with a Gigabyte GA-78LMT motherboard, it's a small form factor board with horrible on board sound. I installed my old SoundBlaster live 24bit card but it was a very tight fit, this card opened up case and improved my airflow. The 740 replaced a 640 that came with the system and I have lower load times in games and slightly improved graphics.
If you have a need for a single slot video card this is a good solution.

5 out of 5 eggsOnly takes up 1 slot

Pros: *True Single Slot Design
*Good Temps
*High Core Speed
*Quiet
*Large 4GB Memory Buffer

Cons: *Memory Bandwidth is so low it's almost embarrassing.

Other Thoughts: It's a few bucks more than the 2GB version. This is noticeably faster than the 1GB Geforce GT 640 I upgraded from, despite having slower memory. It's not much of a difference, but it's there. You can play most modern DX11 Games on Medium settings @1080p with playable frame rates. Just remember that this card by design is pretty crippled when it comes to memory bandwidth.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice for the price

Pros: Small form factor, relatively cheap, fast-ish GPU from a company I know & trust. This is a good combination and a good buy.
Basically, I received a hand-me-down computer from 2008: Dell Vostro 200. It was a cheap compute-box when it was new, and it's no longer new. But it's what I have.
I tried to run Kerbal Space Progam and it would constantly crash. So I scraped together some cash to upgrade the memory and graphics. After about a week of research I settled on this card.
It's relatively inexpensive (100) and lower mid-range power compared to what's out there right now (mid 2014). But it handles Kerbal Space Program like a champ even though it's plugged into a PCI-E x16 v1 slot and it's a v2.0 card.
It was completely plug-n-play on 32 bit Windows 7 SP1. I haven't tried Linux on it yet but I expect no troubles.
I'm an amateur 3d modeler, with Wings3D as my main program. This card makes it run beautifully. And it breezes through my picture collection with the slide-show set on 100ms.
In all, I'm a happy customer.

Cons: None so far.
I had to upgrade my power supply as well to make sure this card had the juice it needs. I got the Rosewill Capstone 550 and the two seem to be working well together.
This is not really a Con but it is something you need to be sure of when you buy this card: the specs call for a 400W power supply with 20amps on its +12 volt rail. Make certain your power supply can handle it before you buy the card.
If it can't, I recommend finding a power supply that will this is a good card. (So far.)

Other Thoughts: I went looking for a cheap graphics upgrade that wasn't a complete waste of money. This was not my first choice. My first choice was a slightly cheaper card with a much less powerful GPU and half the memory. This was because I didn't do my research properly. Here's what I learned.

First off, PCIE x16 boards are backwards compatible. Boards of version 3.0 can go into v1.0 slots. Also, v1.0 boards will work in v3.0 slots. So don't limit yourself to the version number. I would have wasted money on a less useful board.
Second, look up the GPU information. I almost went for a board with a GPU that had a higher sounding revision number even though it actually was a less powerful GPU. Make sure you know what you're buying.
Third, you only have so much room in your computer, make sure the board will fit. I'm fortunate that this board fits my computer as I almost bought a board that would not have. All because I didn't look inside the case and pay attention to what room there was.
Forth, when you think you've decided what you're going to buy, start looking again, from scratch. Scrap your assumptions and try again. I did this four times before coming to the conclusion that this *was*, in fact, EXACTLY the board I wanted to buy.
Finally, READ ALL THE REQUIREMENTS!! If I hadn't done so, I would not have gotten a bigger power supply and I'd be unhappy right now.

But I am happy because I spent my time finding the right product. Thank you, Newegg.
