5 out of 5 eggsA great tv card

This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 720 DirectX 12 01G-P3-2722-KR 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 8 Video Card

Pros: 19 watts max and a passive cooler that hasn't broken 36c yet. Completely silent

Cons: The only one would be if you were expecting a gaming card.

Other Thoughts: Replaced a 260gtx in living room (power hog and noisy fan, I don't game out there) running Ubuntu and win xp. The win xp boots with a green screen but something went bad since I installed it in 2005. Ubuntu works perfectly, the open source driver (default) worked upon boot for me, haven't booted mint in a while.

I bought two of these cards (one for me and one for a buddy) and wanted to see if there was a compatibility problem with win xp since both green screened when I booted into living room xp. My bedroom computer also runs xp, both worked perfectly. I liked it so much my buddy got coal :) It replaced a 520, but had a fan.

Im not sure if this card can do 4k, but for 1080p its all you could ever want in a tv card.

5 out of 5 eggsGood entry level card.

This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 720 DirectX 12 01G-P3-2722-KR 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 8 Video Card

Pros: -Fanless design, meaning silent operation, but this is also somewhat a con.

-Power efficient. I'm getting ~20W readings while gaming.

-Runs everything I need it to just fine.

Cons: -Fanless design. After playing the Sims 4 for about an hour the heatsink feels so hot that I feel it could literally melt the skin off my fingertips. I have not encountered any overheating errors nor does the card seem to throttle itself, so I suppose this is normal, but I personally wish it was actively cooled.

Other Thoughts: This is a great card for the entry level gamer like myself. The newest game I run is Sims 4, and I can run it at 1080p with all settings on high, ~30fps. It'll also play Minecraft with 128x128 texture packs. I've not tested much of anything else, but this card will definitely be enough to tide me over until my next upgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsOK card. Fine for X-windows

This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 720 DirectX 12 01G-P3-2722-KR 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 8 Video Card

Pros: Cheap, reasonably low power. Passive cooling means less noise. multi head support. etc. NVIDIA proprietary drivers work quite well with X11R6.

Cons: Open source Linux Nouveau drivers don't work with it. Lots of problems because of this. Nvidia should do a better job of supporting open source so they don't waste hours of my time. Can not install the Nvidia proprietary drivers until you can get a console window and go into init 3. But problems with Nouveau drivers won't let you open a console window. Catch 22 problem. Need to nomodeset the driver on the kernel options to get around this console problem OR get NVIDIA to help the opensource people to make a better open source driver. Very frustrating experience.

Other Thoughts: Never had this much trouble with Linux and an ATI video card.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA GT 720 and XP PRO

This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 720 DirectX 12 01G-P3-2722-KR 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 8 Video Card

Pros: So Very Small. No heat at idle. Good Picture.
Zero noise. Low power for my Work Computer.
Fits inside large PCI Express slot easily.
Win XP and Win10 trial looks great.
Many thanks for the WinXP driver, EVGA. As XP Drivers are still wanted by many people. One sweet little video card.

Cons: Could only run my Linux Mint Mate in low res.
New Linux Mint Nvidia Driver is needed for max res.
The next version of MATE will likely work at max res.
(Not the video card fault. But I did wipe the Linux OS unexpectedly.) See below.

Other Thoughts: MB Gigabyte GA 870A -UD3
Replaces old Geforce 7600GS <-still works, but a power hog. Needed to be as small as possible, to change H Drives in my workshop computer. With Linux out, I installed Window 10 Trial. Interesting. For me, Win 10 is far easier than Win 8. More like the XP style interface.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me!

This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 720 DirectX 12 01G-P3-2722-KR 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 8 Video Card

Pros: I have had good results with Nvidia and EVGA. Always reliable. Others in my family like them too.

Cons: It is hard finding anything negative.

Other Thoughts: I am not a gamer but this graphics card is able to support games well like World of Warcraft. Great frame rates!
