Supercharge your gaming experience with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 video card. The GeForce GTX 970 is powered by the next-generation NVIDIA Maxwell architecture, delivering unmatched performance at incredibly lower power consumption when compared to the previous generation. 1664 CUDA Cores and a 4GB GDDR5 memory in a 256-bit width work side by side for game redefining performance. You can play today's hottest titles at max resolution on today's highest-definition displays, all at ultra settings.

Performance is just part of the story. The Maxwell architecture is engineered with the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination) technology to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment. Super Resolution technology lets you enjoy the detail and brilliance of 4K gaming even on 1080p displays. The G-Sync technology ensures smooth, tear-free images by synchronizing display frame rate to GPU (require displays that support G-Sync). An array of NVIDIA GTX technologies are also built in, like GPU Boost, NVIDIA 3D Vision, NVIDIA Surround, NVIDIA PhysX, and GeForce Experience. These technologies together provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experience possible.

This model is factory overclocked to 1140 MHz Base Clock/1279 MHz Boost Clock (1050 MHz/1178 MHz for reference design) to extract more graphics power to push the performance envelope.

  • newegg NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0 Technology Dynamically maximizes clock speeds based on workload, and allows enthusiast class controls such as temperature target and fan controls, extra over-voltage headroom, and optimizations for water-cooling solutions. This allows greater customization and overclocking options, and enables gamers to push performance to new levels.
  • newegg NVIDIA G-SYNC NVIDIA G-SYNC is groundbreaking new display technology that delivers the smoothest and fastest gaming experience ever. G-SYNC's revolutionary performance is achieved by synchronizing display refresh rates to the GPU in your GeForce GTX-powered PC, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing display stutter and input lag. The result: scenes appear instantly, objects look sharper, and gameplay is super smooth, giving you a stunning visual experience and a serious competitive edge.
  • newegg Dynamic Super Resolution Technology Enables the details of 4K monitors, on a 1080p display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a higher resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.
  • newegg GeForce Experience The easiest way to optimize your games and keep your drivers up to date, the GeForce Experience application automatically notifies you of new driver releases from NVIDIA. Update the driver directly with a single click, without leaving your desktop. Plus, it offers exciting features like GeForce ShadowPlay that lets you capture and share your greatest gaming moments, automatically.
  • newegg NVIDIA PhysX Technology Full support for NVIDIA PhysX technology, enabling a totally new class of physical gaming interaction for a more dynamic and realistic experience with GeForce.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround Nothing is as breathtaking as playing your favorite games across three monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators. Add a fourth display to keep tabs on chat, email, or the web while you're gaming.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Card, but on the fence.

Pros: Runs cool, high performance, Runs anything I throw at it.

Cons: Somewhat noisy, Coil whine.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card from that other online retailer who also sell books because every other model that I'd want is sold out everywhere. EVGA was not my first choice despite there good warranty policy. The primary reason for that is that their cards seem to have endemic coil whine. I had an EVGA GTX 770 that I sold and replaced with a Gigabyte GTX 770 for that same reason. As my choices were limited I thought I'd give EVGA another go. The card performs as advertised. I've been using DSR while play testing Wolfenstein: New Order and Tomb Raider 2013. I don't have the stats for Wolfenstein but here's TR.

That's what I can recall from memory. FPS was, as would be expected, better at 1080p with Tres FX off. I'll redo the benchmarks hopefully tonight and update this review.

Now, more on why I"m on the fence. I was able to do two things to reduce the fan noise. One was to use the quiet fan preset in Precision X. That runs the fan at 30% up to I think 60c. That keeps the fan noise inaudible in-game under most circumstances. Tomb Raider really works a graphics card though with Tres FX on. It heats up the card fast and the fan kicks in within minutes. It's the only game I have that can do that. I'm coming directly from a Gigabyte GTX 780 GHZ edition. There is no difference in that respect. After what I'd read about the 970 I guess I was hoping it would handle the game better. It does, don't get me wrong, but the game still works it hard.

The other thing I did was was to cap the framerate to 60 in Precision X. I believe that also helps but I did it mostly to try and eliminate the coil whine. It helped to reduce it but it is still there. In-game I don't really hear it but on idle I can. It is not as high pitched but I can still detect it. I might be able to live with it but I don't know. I have another 3 weeks to decide.

I went with the blower style cooler to reduce my case temps because I've moved the computer into an entertainment center behind a glass door. The first day in the cabinet with the 780 installed told me I either need to leave the door open during gameplay or change cards. I have a Node 304 case and the first gaming session in the entertainment center saw the entire case hot to the touch.
The blower certainly reduced the temps to what I was used to when the computer was out in the open. At most it is warm now.

So, I've resolved fan noise and the card itself resolves the issue of case heat. The only issue that I may not ultimately be able to deal with is the coil whine. Why EVGA? Why can't you produce a card that does not sing like a tuning fork? I could chalk up one card that does that to bad luck, but this is my second EVGA card. I don't think

5 out of 5 eggsHappy Happy Happy

Pros: * Fast
* Cool
* Quiet
* Energy efficient
* Overclockable
* Stable
* Affordable

Cons: What "cons"? This video card is outstanding! Spectacular, even! Why, I'd dare say it's ludicrously stupid awesome!

Other Thoughts: I love this video card. I wish they would get more in stock so other people could love it, too. It idles at around 28° Celcius when not using the K boost, and around 49° when K boost is on. Temperatures do not exceed 79° while running either the Valley or Heaven benchmarks, even when both the auto fan and K boost are turned on. (Just make sure you leave enough room behind your computer to properly vent the air out.) Even at 100% custom fan speed, it is not loud. I went from a four and a half year old GTX 480 to this GTX 970, and this 970 is very quiet by comparison. The fan doesn't need to be loud because the card doesn't generate as much heat as my old 480 did.

This video card made a big difference in my benchmarks.

For the Heaven 4.0 benchmark, with my CPU overclocked at 3.7 GHz, when using my old GTX 480, I got FPS: 22.9, Score: 576, Min FPS: 11.9, Max FPS: 45.5. When running the same benchmark, using the same settings with my new GTX 970, I got FPS: 53.9, Score: 1358, Min FPS: 18.6, Max FPS: 114.8.

For the Valley 1.0 benchmark, when using the GTX 480, I got FPS: 25.9, Score: 1082, Min FPS: 13.8, Max FPS: 44.6. With my new GTX 970, I got FPS: 51.4, Score: 2151, Min FPS: 19.8, Max FPS: 90.5.

When running Fire Strike, I went from getting 3116 with my old GTX 480 to 8847 with my new GTX 970. And this is all done with my old AMD Phenom II X6 1100T CPU. I can't imagine how much faster this new video card would run on a more modern, robust system.

This video card is only 9.5" (24.13 cm) in length. It easily fit into my mid sized tower case (I have an older Antec 300). I'm just altogether happy with my purchase. I'm glad that I had a chance to snag one before they went out of stock.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Fast for the money. Quiet and cool. Getting a second for SLI soon. (when they're available again)

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: To Victor G. I can guarantee your problem is that the pci-e power connectors aren't properly installed; make sure they are on good and snug. I had the same problem with my GTX 560ti and come to find out, I had a loose connection. Double check that and love life!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Video Card

Pros: I purchased it at $359 and i am pleased with the performance. I upgraded from a GTX 770. I am pulling around 145 Watts and its way less than the gtx 770. Quiet and i do not hear coil whine.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Card length is less than 10.5 inches. It fits in my Silverstone SG-05 with slight modifications.

4 out of 5 eggsEVGA 04G-P4-1972-KR GeForce GTX 970 4GB

Pros: As expected, more or less the same performance as my 660ti SC 3Gb in SLI.
Good temps, 71C at full load
Clocks are higher than advertised and I could easily give it another 150Mhz.

Cons: Coil whine on some benchmark, especially on high fps like the fractal test with Passmark. No whine at all otherwise but it makes you wonder about the long term reliability, hence the one egg for this.

Pros: Light Weight
Short in length
Fastest sub $500 card out
Looks Classic
Overclocks like a BEAST

1 out of 5 eggsHaving Problems

Pros: Very fast and quiet, even with fan at 100%. Good improvement over my previous get 770. Smaller then my previous card, fits in nicely.

Cons: Ever since I installed this new graphics card, I can only play my games for a few minutes before I get a black screen and my computer is forced to reset, I've already tried everything from newest drivers to tweaking my fan speeds to keep it cool. Not sure what exactly the problem is, at this point I can only assume it's the graphics card. Perhaps I received a bad card.

Other Thoughts: Good price for quality. Just hope I can get some answers to fix my problem, until then I'm going to have to give it one egg.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 970 Blower Option

Pros: - All of the positives that come from owning a 970, regardless of who is making it.
- Relatively quiet fan. I replaced a EVGA GTX 570 that was also a rear exhaust blower and I can't tell a difference in noise level.
- No coil whine. I'm very sensitive to coil whine noises and this has none at all.

Cons: - Mild overclock. I don't plan to push this any further than the factory settings, but I knew this going in.

Other Thoughts: This is one of few blower option type 970's. I'm really glad this doesn't have coil whine, that was a big fear I had since a lot of the ACX cooler owners were complaining about this.

5 out of 5 eggsLots of OC headroom

Pros: -lots of overclocking headroom.
-17,121 Firestrike Score with this in SLI with the stock clocked one (both OC'ed to 1280mhz with memory OC'ed to 1953mhz (7700 mhz effective)
-High default clocks (1140/1753 for superclocked version)
-Half the price of what 780ti was retailing for with close to same performance
-Very little voltage increases needed for max OC (+25mV total)
-never reaches over 80 Celcius during benchmarks even with OC
-the Price!!!!!!!! (buy two!!!- these kill it in SLI)
-DSR (dynamic super resolution)
-not AMD
-not AMD
-Plenty of GDDR5
-relatively quiet blower

Cons: Maybe blower could look cooler (Tian-like)...other than that, this is perfection

Other Thoughts: buy!

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA 04G-P4-1972-KR GeForce GTX 970 Review

Pros: Performance at a great price.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Replaced my eVGA 670 FTW card with this eVGA 970 SC. Overall seeing a 33% increase in performance with 3dMark benchmarks. Your mileage may vary as my CPU is an older i7-950. Overall happy with price and performance of the card. All benchmarks ran fine except Metro 2033 / Last Light Redux. Both Metro Redux benchmarks result in a CTD with driver stopped responding message. I believe this is a problem with the Metro 2033 Advanced Physics / NVidia drivers. I am running the 344.16 drivers. The fan is only barely louder than the 670, overall not an issue for me. Games are running great at max settings. Card is much smaller and lighter than the 670 card and fits well in my IN WIN case.
