5 out of 5 eggsZotac gtx 460 Heat Issues

Pros: Extremely powerful card, especially for the price! I've had only the best from it, am now running Crysis 3 on max with 50 FPS.

Cons: Have always been worried about heat. Usually when core clock is maxed it runs about 71c. I have heard reviews of it running at 90c which is volitile for this card, and I have found an easy solution. The heatsink and fan are not very well made, so these should be replaced as soon as possible. Get new thermal compund in it, even if it is straight out of the box. #1 TIP------ REMOVE THE SHELL. I just did that last night, and the odd shape of the shell was reducing airflow. I instantly dropped from 71c max to around 64c. MUCH more comfortable at that temp.

Other Thoughts: Great card, runs hot.

2 out of 5 eggsHOT

Pros: It does everything a gtx 460 is supposed to. Performs beautifully. Good price.

Cons: Like previous reviews have said, this thing gets hot. Any game I try to run at any decent settings, overheats and crashes the card within 20 minutes. I had to RMA the first one within a month after purchase. The second one I had to keep my case open with a box fan next to it just to keep it cool enough to play. Finally the second one gave out today after about 3 months.

Other Thoughts: Can't say I'm too surprised, when it comes to any computer components, you really just get what you pay for. This card was cheap when I got it, and it turned out to be a cheap card. Lesson learned, I guess. Now to go nerdrage at zotac.

2 out of 5 eggs5 months in and not happy

Pros: 2 dvi's and a hdmi.
fairly quick and handles most of my games at higher settings (but not max...at least not for long)

Cons: THIS THING IS HOT. And I mean HOT. It idles at almost 50c and under max load in furmark, it just keeps going up and up and up. I haven't let it go above 90c because it was just scary. I'll be replacing this with another card as soon as I can. I'd love to replace the thermal paste but it would void my warranty.

Although I may just do it anyways since I'm sure it's not under warranty for much longer...Oh well time to go AMD. Radeons are looking attractive now...

Cooling in my case:
-nzxt Phantom with 210mm and 140mm exhaust, and 2 120mm intake
-nzxt havik 140 just INCHES from card, blowing right out the top via 2 140mm in push/pull config and the 210mm.

Other Thoughts: Nothing against newegg. This is zotac/nvidia's fault. Newegg as usual gets 5 eggs. Thanks newegg, you're the best!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anonymous,

Replacing thermal paste does NOT void warranty with graphics cards! If you are unsure how or need assistance in the process, send an email to support@zotacusa.com and they will be glad to help you. Also, if our warranty rules confuse you, go ahead and send me an email at juliette@zotacusa.com and I can help you clarify any confusion.

Thanks,
Juliette

5 out of 5 eggsA decent, cheap video card

Pros: For the power this card offers, at least for video decompression, it seems underpriced. So far, I haven't had any problems.

Cons: Power hungry - be sure you have have a fitting PSU that can handle it, especially when under load.

Other Thoughts: I'm not a gamer (well, I am, but only console games, not computer games) so I don't know how well this works in games. I only got it for CUDA since my 7600 GT that I was happy with didn't have CUDA. Being behind in video card technology, I had no idea on the cause of 4 instances of "high definition audio device" appearing, taking a while to figure out that the HDMI ports required this (I have nothing that uses HDMI anyway).

5 out of 5 eggsZotac Non-Rebate Policy Has Changed TO INSTANT REBATE CENTRAL

Pros: HAPPY - HAPPY - HAPPY - HAPPY

Definitely a Pro: We finally got willie kicked to the curb.

ZOTAC LISTENED AND CHANGED UP TO FAST REBATES!

After nearly 10 months and over a dozen emails to 'William' I emailed 1 more time. 1 DAY LATER willy's replacement, AUGIE EMAILED and PHONED ME - Just to tell me my $30.00 rebate was in the mail.

AUGIE IS THE BOSS

Cons: Took a long time to get willie kicked to the curb.

4 out of 5 eggsNice card , irritating Rebate process

Pros: Great performance for the buck, it's size allows for easy upgrades in systems like HP's and Dell's. Pretty quiet fan and the software for oc'ing is very easy to use.

Cons: The rebate process is a pain. Got in contact with Zotac twice about the status and the second time it just happened to be going out the next day which was still over a week longer then the max they tell you it will go out by. The rebate process seems to be a BIG problem for Zotac.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed Feelings

Pros: Cheap, easy install..

Cons: Overheats very easily. my old GTS 450 ran wow at near max settings and never once overheated. Somtimes after a few hours this card overheats and the screen goes checkerboard. Dont think its a memory issue. Pretty sure its the card. I'm also no terrible impressed with the performance. It doesnt seem to be the big upgrade i thought it would be from my 2 year old GTS 450. :(

Other Thoughts: Both cards installed in my case, this one gets better airflow and has a 180mm silverstone fan RIGHT on it, and yet the old card stays cooler, (60c vs 40c)

5 out of 5 eggsSolid!

Pros: upgraded from a 9600gso to be able to play skyrim at full settings with upgraded texture packs and does not disappoint.

fast, extremely quiet, and powerful enough that it seems like overkill to a casual gamer like myself, but for the price, why not?

Cons: causes freezes in my non-gaming OS. no eggs deducted for this as I've found a workaround, and it works beautifully in windows, which is what it designed for in the first place

Other Thoughts: if you're using an OS other than windows, you may want to keep looking, but for a casual gamer looking to upgrade, you can't go wrong with this!
