Step up to the Kepler architecture for amazing graphics performance and power efficiency with the ZOTAC GeForce GT 640 VGA card. It's based on the industry-leading 28nm technology and provides gorgeous DirectX 11 gaming and HD visuals at an unbeatable price. Hardware accelerated Blu-ray 3D playback enables the ZOTAC GeForce GT 640 to render stunning stereoscopic high-definition video with compatible displays and playback software. This ZONE Edition utilizes superior passive cooling solution that produces zilch noise, so you can enjoy completely silent operation for immersive gaming and movies. An array of NVIDIA innovations, such as NVIDIA Surround, NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync and the new FXAA Anti-aliasing Mode offers more than one way to elevate your gaming experience, bringing your entertainment and work to a new level like never before.

  • newegg Passive Cooling Design This ZONE Edition graphics card features passive cooling solution with no fans installed for zero-noise operation, ideal for HTPC where quietness matters.
  • newegg Kepler GPU Architecture NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance in the latest DirectX 11 games, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card.
  • newegg NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround with Up To Four Monitors Simultaneously drive up to four independent 1080p displays for the ultimate multimedia or productivity workspace and expand a single application across all three displays for an immersive viewing perspective.
  • newegg FXAA AntiAliasing Anti-aliasing smoothes out jagged edges but can be demanding on framerates. FXAA is a new antialiasing technology that produces beautiful smooth lines with minimal performance impact. And with Kepler based GPUs, you'll be able to enable FXAA in hundreds of game titles through the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • newegg Blu-ray 3D Support Connect your PC to any 3D enabled TV over HDMI and enjoy a cinematic 3D experience in your home with seamless support for 1080p Blu-ray 3D discs.

3 out of 5 eggsNice, BUT had to modify it

Pros: After I fixed it, it runs well, low power, fanless, and beats my 8800GTX by 2x on HalfLife at 2560x1600. My PC now takes 82W at idle (vs. 132W) and at full bore on the Halflife video stress test, it takes only 150W (vs. 223W), while delivering twice the FPS. And I LOVE the fanless quietness. Since the rest of my PC is cooler, I went ahead and disconnected two other fans too, so it's way quieter now.

So now, I do love the card.

Cons: Wow! When I first installed it, it was fine, but if I fired up a video game, my computer FROZE (I let this happen like 4 times to make sure it wasn't drivers, which I updated). I took the heat sink off, and reseated it after moving around the heat compound, (it is only held on loosely by spring loaded nuts; it is NOT a held down in an overly secure manner!!!), and it's been fine since.

Clearly, a user should not have to do this, and I am now worried that it will happen again. Like usual, only my computer in the family has "issues".

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Quiet
Works with Linux
Drives 2 1080p displays without issue

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this to build a quiet dual head Linux workstation and it works great with NVidia's Linux drivers. I'm not a gamers so if doesn't have amazing 3D performance it's not an issue. I hope it holds up because it's hard to find decent fanless cards with dual DVI

3 out of 5 eggsGood but temperamental

Pros: Generally a good card, quiet and fanless, perfect for a music studio.

Cons: The mini HDMI port is very temperamental. The first card I got it didn't work at all. I got a replacement card and it works most of the time, but the slightest bump of the cable and it will loose the connection. Pretty frustrating, not what you'd expect from a card at this price range.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice, compact design. Silent.

Cons: Has a small problem remaining connected with Mini HDMI cable. Loses signal to monitor with slightest movement of cable. Using Nippon Labs cables.

Other Thoughts: Not real sure why the design uses Mini HDMI. There is plenty of room for a full size fitting, and I have never had any problem with any of the full size HDMI fittings.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fanless card

Pros: Decent 3D, great price, HDMI (mini), 2 DVI's, analog compatibility (regular VGA) just in case, 2GB and no impossible-to-replace proprietary fan! I've bought other Zotac cards and all have been solid.

Cons: Would like a full HDMI port or at least an adapter. You'll need to buy one if you need full size HDMI out. There is a DVI-to-VGA, but I have 5 of those laying around. :\

Other Thoughts: I try to always buy fanless video cards because I've had these one-of-a-kind fans go bad too often and NOT ONE uses a standard fan mount, be it 120mm or even 80mm. I still use a fan in the slot next to it just because I like airflow over everything. You want some kind of airflow for fanless cards.

5 out of 5 eggssilent is great. works on pci-e 2.0 X16

Pros: Upgraded from silent asus geforce 520 gt. Easy install on opensuse linux: plug in and reboot. Improved the picture of streaming videos and movies. It worked without a problem on my pcie-2.0 X16 mobo. I was worried about this, but read on another site that it would work, so I took the gamble. 2 gigs of memory and 128 bit throughput. As far as my research showed and needs are concerned, this card is in a class by itself.

Cons: none for me since I have a full tower case, but the heat sink is huge. At least twice the volume of my 520 heat sink. Something to be consider before ordering. Not DDR5, but I haven't seen any fanless video cards that are in this price range.

Other Thoughts: Not a gamer, so I can't speak to game improvements. I'll mostly use the card for videos, but hope to put the card to use in gpgpu at some point. Appears to have CUDA score of 2.1 which allows for double precision computation.

Nvidia software has a nice feature for reducing power consumption: when not under stress (as when I'm writing this review), the card goes to a slower clock speed (~300mhz). I like this feature, though you can turn it off to keep at top performance levels.

I have an 80MM case fan blowing on this card. The highest temp I've seen is 35C.
