5 out of 5 eggsSmooth Video Playback, Runs Cool

Pros: Inexpensive for 2gb, runs cool for passive, no fan noise.

Cons: Takes up half of adjacent PCI slot, refuses to bring me a beer.

Other Thoughts: I replaced a flaky XFX 1gb passively cooled video card with this Zotac. I'm happy to now have a more powerful GPU with driver software that doesn't cause my computer to randomly crash and reboot.

I have a 120 mm intake fan that blows across the PCI slots in my cramped mini tower, and Speedfan reports GPU temps constantly below 60 Celsius.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my previous review

Pros: See previous review by Desla Slade

Cons: See previous review by Desla Slade

Other Thoughts: I mentioned in the previous review that this card is a single slot card. Unfortunately the heat sink is slightly too large to accommodate any neighboring cards. I see this as a real detriment to the value of the card though it is still passively cooled and low profile. In light of this I would recommend either the GIGABYTE GV-N640D5-1GL for performance at the GT level and still a single slot and low profile or a GIGABYTE GV-N630D3-2GL for a good GT card with low power consumption, single slot and low profile.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent and powerful budget card, fanless but hot.

Pros: This is a Kepler version of the GT 630 card series as opposed to being a re-branded GT 440 Fermi. The most remarkable feature of this card is the large number of CUDA cores (384) and the low power consumption of 25W. It is also a single slot card though I have not yet installed another card next to it to see what the clearance over the heat sink would be. I have been very impressed with how well it handles most games. I have been playing a couple of demanding games on it regularly and it does a fantastic job of delivering good FPS and details on a 70 Hz 1920 by 1080 monitor.

Cons: My tower does not have enough airflow to keep the card at a reasonable temperature. The max temperature in the nvidia specifications is 90 C. Usually the card sits at about 75 C under load and around 40 C idle but I have seen the temperature go over the 90 C mark. Again, this is more of a function of my tower than of any failing of the card, however with that in mind, I would probably recommend a version of this card with a fan or a tower that has good airflow over the expansion card slots. I have considered installing a PCI slot case fan to blow air onto the card even though that defeats some of the novelty of having a small single slot low, profile card. Additionally I have applied aftermarket heat sink paste to the gpu and that did help considerably (about 10 C better under load).

Other Thoughts: I know that nvidia and their card manufacturers recommend a GTX series card for gaming, but for those who might be more interested in a budget card or a low power option this is a great fit. Again, I think a fan is good idea.

If you are willing to spend a little more you can get one of the new GT 640 cards which are now equipped with GDDR5 memory and have a power consumption rating of only 49 W. Additionally they don't require any power connection from the PSU. These too can be found in single slot, low profile configurations but not passively cooled. They are reminiscent of the short lived GT 545 which was unexpectedly powerful and could also be used in SLI, which if you can find, I also strongly recommend. Unfortunately you have to invest in a GTX 650 ti Boost to have the SLI option now.
