4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine for most applications, but jerky TV output

Pros: --This doesn't require a PCIe x16 slot--just a USB slot. A big advantage if your PC has only one PCIe x16 slot.
--Works fine for most applications except TV.
--Works fine on multiple monitor installations
--Easy installation

Cons: For TV viewing, picture quality was jumpy/jerky, and the aspect ratio was off

Other Thoughts: It works, and was easy to install. You install the driver from the CD, and then plug one end of the device into your PC’s USB slot using the provided cable, and plug your monitor/TV into the other end of the device (those cables are not provided). The device has a DVI output, but it comes with simple adapters to convert the DVI to HDMI or VGA.

I tried it out on a PC using Windows 7. In Windows, when you go to Control Panel->Display, you can adjust the # monitors displayed, etc. I had no problems switching between the Display Adapter monitor and the other monitors I had installed—it works just as if another video card was installed.

I have a PC that has only one PCIe x16 slot, and there are times when I really wish it had another, as the one slot is used for the video card. Using this devices will allow you to get video through a USB slot, thereby freeing up the PCIe x16 slot for something else (including, for example, a second video card).

I was hoping to use this adapter to watch TV with Windows Media Center. I found the picture quality to be good, especially for fixed images, but I had two major issues watching TV on it. First, when I watched Bloomberg TV on it with scrolling stock prices across the bottom of the screen, the scrolling stocks prices were jumpy/jerky. The other video card I used didn’t have this problem. Second, the images were not in the proper aspect ratio (i.e. they were too wide), and I didn’t see anything in the software to adjust for this.

So, depending on what you plan to use this product for, it may or may not work for you. As I was planning on watching TV with it, it didn’t work for me, but if you’re just using it for a PC monitor, it would work fine.

I’ve seen various USB->HDMI converters. This one uses USB 2.0 (and the PC I tried it on only has USB 2.0). I’ve seen other such converters that use USB 3.0. Since 3.0 is so much faster, I wonder whether the problem with the jumpy screen would still be a problem with a converter that uses USB 3.0.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough but expensive

Pros: Good enough to use for excel/word without noticing lag, no issue staying connected, the picture is clear, if I'm not playing video I cannot tell which screen is connected by this adapter or the mini display one.

Cons: Slow, cannot watch any video, expensive

Other Thoughts: I read all of the reviews prior to purchase and I made sure to dl the drive prior to hooking it up to my 2010 MBP.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick and Easy

Pros: Compact, has long enough usb cable. Driver install was easy and finished without a hitch. Came with DVI to VGA and DVI to HDMI adapters

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Used in an office environment as secondary screen, so I cant really comment on the framerate, but it isn't for fast video, thats a given.

Download the drivers from the product page on the website, dont bother with the CD.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat adapter for a second monitor

Pros: Good performance and price for second monitor. Configures very easily.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Does not include Windows 8 drivers. Win 8 users will need to download drivers from the manufacturer's website.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome product! OSX drivers not included however.

Pros: - No external power needed
- It's small with minimal cords
- Comes with two additional adapter heads
- Shipped/arrived very fast (standard shipping)

Cons: - Does NOT work on a MAC without drivers that were not included. Windows drivers are provided on a CD.

Other Thoughts: Excellent product overall. I plan to buy at least one more.

Use the following keyword search for the drivers:
"DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for Mac OS X"

5 out of 5 eggsGreat device!

Pros: -Comes with HDMI converter also (not pictured).
-Works with any computer I've thrown at it (even macbook air)

Cons: -Price I guess? I think there's cheaper, but I've seen people go cheaper on a USB-to-video solution before and have nothing but problems.

Other Thoughts: This might be the first review I've ever left on NewEgg, but always look to them for input before buying anything around here... so take that as a sign as to how much I love this thing. I was looking for a way to add another monitor to my laptop, and this thing worked perfectly. Windows 7 finds the correct drivers, and installs them without issue. Since it's USB, I've also used it to power additional monitors for my desktop, and macbook air, in a pinch. The install for OS/X isn't as straightforward, but the Mac drivers can easily be found in the DisplayLink website.

Anyway, it comes with DVI built in, and adapters for Analog VGA as well as HDMI... all work perfectly. The HDMI was a pleasant surprise since it isn't pictured.

Handles decent resolutions for my 22" monitors... but haven't tested it on anything bigger. Love this thing... if you're looking for usb-to-vga... get it now!

Pros: Great on any machine
does a good job on converting computers which don't have digital output to HDMI.
But. i use a Mac OS X 10.7.2 8GB RAM
had to download a beta software from displaylink forums.

Cons: You cannot play videos well or 3D content.
the frame rates are lower
