5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing

Pros: Everything about this product is just perfect.

First of all the sound. I am somewhat of a stickler for quality audio, and for a long time been resigned to portable devices having below average volume and quality. The sound system on this device is spectacular. Usually on a portable device, if you turn the volume all the way up, its audible, but nothing more than audible. On this device, even turning the volume halfway up gets it LOUD. The audio quality is also excellent. VERY IMPRESSED.

Second, the systems design. I found the shield to be a welcome change from phones and tablets, which feel fragile and delicate. This system feels very sturdy!! It has some weight to it! Not in a bad way, you will be able to hold it for as long as you want, but it just feels so solid. Furthermore, the clamshell design makes it VERY easy to carry around without having to worry about wear and tear to the screen.

The system can also connect to the TV wirelessly with an HDMI to mini-HDMI cable, or wirelessly with Miracast. I have tried some games and they work perfectly with amazing sound and video quality.

In conclusion, the spectacular quality and workmanship of this device make me an instant fan of NVidia. I will be buying the second gen of this when it comes out, just to support the company and this platform.

Pros: Awesome controller and screen combination. Can use full android market of apps and games. Also everything Ive purchased and downloaded on my android phone, once I sign in on my shield, it downloads all the games and apps I have on my phone. Also battery life is like 4-5 times longer than my cell phone battery. Buying the $40 case is a must imo.

Cons: There is none. Blah blah didn't get u a date with a supermodel, you don't own It yet, it doesn't print money or w/e else "clever" one can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is great

Pros: I have a few consoles, like Nintendo DS 3D, PSP, and some Tables, Ipad and a regular Dell Streak, so far my favorite is NVIDIA SHIELD one of the reason is the unique model. People complain about is to heavy, I think is great size and good, too me people always look for the minimal to complain.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: I love the way it feel every one that think that know about technology and dont have or ear about this, they really dont know about nothing. My next NVIDIA product is the tablet. Ps: I love that i can linked to my video card that is a NVIDIA 750.

5 out of 5 eggsStop looking, click buy.

Pros: Three major reasons to buy:

1. Gamestream - Stream PC games from your Nvidia GTX 750 (or above) PC.

2. Play emulated games - Retroarch is great for this.

3. Android games - SUPRISINGLY, awesome games are being ported directly to Android for the Shield. Portal and Half-life 2! Crazy Taxi! GTA III, Vice City, and SA! These games look spectacular and Portal 2 is in the works.

The battery lasts forever when using an emulator and reasonably long when playing premium Android games.

Games look great on a TV via HDMI too.

Cons: Screen could be bigger. Given the size of the screen bezel, the screen could have been 1" bigger. I certainly would have welcomed a bigger screen.

Nvidia Shield 2 may come out soon, may cause the price of the original to decrease.

Other Thoughts: This is going to be huge for Android gaming. I've spent 3x more on Android games in the last month than I have for my last three Android phones.

There are rumors of an Nvidia Shield 2. Those rumors existed when I bought mine too. It will be awhile and I'll likely buy that when it comes out too, especially if it's based on the Tegra K1 processor.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Console Purchase Since the PS1

Pros: - Console Emulation from the Atari 2600 - the Dreamcast
(The best in class are: DraStic DS, SuperGNES, FPse (close second epsxe), reicast is works well but is still in alpha)
- Playing Android games that were built for a controller but you never had a good way to play them (GTA3 series, Don't Look Back, Riptide GP2, The Cave, Sonic CD, Crazy Taxy, Mini Motor, Rochard, Meltdown...)
- Connects to your TV with 1080p (With a micro HDMI cable you can connect it to your TV, close the lid an play in console mode. This also allows you to do Netflix/Hulu in full screen without a problem)
- Ability to connect other controllers to the Shield (with a wire, you can connect the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers to the Shield without a problem. The 360 works best with the integrated mousing with the right stick)
- Ported computer games that you can play directly from your Shield (Portal, Half-Life 2)
- Design quality (Once I had used the Shield for a couple of weeks, I heard about connecting the PS3 controller, this way you can do multiplayer on your emulators, and I thought that would be cool. So I connected the controller and once I put the PS3 controller in my hand I could not believe how cheap it felt next to the Shield. The buttons felt cheap, the play in the joysticks felt terrible. The shield is very nice in the hand)
- Battery Life (The Shields battery life is one of the best I have seen in a portable, especially with the graphical quality it pushes out! I got stuck at the airport for over 8 hours and played on it non-stop and still had a little battery left. The remainder lasted me for most of the flight home. I don't recommend getting locked in an airport that long though...)
- Pure Android (Pure Android is pretty much the only way to go. If you have ever owned a Nexus you know what I mean. The Shield has minor tweaks to stock Android but they are all related to the gaming experience. There are some tweaks to make the right stick your mouse and the trigger your button, there is button mapping so that you can map touch screen actions/gyroscope to button presses or joystick movements but, other then that it is very similar to stock. This allows for quick updates, I have had about 4-5 updates since I purchased the Shield and it is currently on the newest version of Android.
- Sound (The speakers are quite loud, they are the best speakers I have seen in a portable device, not Bose quality but come on... seriously)
- Full articulating hinge (You can position the screen anywhere from barely open to full 180 and it will stay where you leave it, so no matter your favorite viewing angle it works great.)
- Control mapping (This is one of the keys to making this so amazing with Android games. You can map controls for just about any game with touch controls and the Shield will remember your configuration for every game you map to. Check out some videos, it is pretty much essential for a great Android experience)
- SD Card slot
- Play Store
- Grid
- Ga

Cons: - The space above only allowed 3000 characters....
- When I first got it, I remember thinking "This is heavier than I thought it would be" but now I have a hard time remembering why I thought that... Once you play it you never really think about that again.
- Not enough time to play it (you know that life thing kind of gets in the way)
- Doesn't cut toast (Well, it does, and pretty well actually, but then you get crumbs all over your screen and it gets in the hinge)
- Volume control is a little weird, you hit the "Volume" button, then some onscreen controls to change the volume appear on the right side... not a big deal but a little weird
- People probably still buy Vita's or 3DS' instead of this... those people are crazy! (For the same price as the Vita, you get all of the games your purchased in the Play Store and all of the free apps without doing anything)
- You probably should not try to drive while playing it... That would be pretty distracting.
- Once you buy one, you will find yourself needlessly wasting your time telling other people how awesome it is and that they should also purchase one... and you don't even get paid for your time...
- You will sit in front of your screen (wasting time again) trying to come up with humorous cons in a review section just to waste space

Other Thoughts: Continuation of Pros:
ome

- Some computer card readers do not properly support a 64 gb card, so if it comes up with the wrong amount, get a different card reader. Also, to make it work on the Shield you must format the Micro SD card as NTFS and NOT exFAT (which is normally what they come formatted as...)
- Invest in a large Micro SD card, you will need them for all of the Playstation games you turned into ISO's from your collection.
- Grid is pretty awesome (nVidia is pretty much giving you 12 free (for now) pc games that you can stream over the internet on your Shield. This works amazingly well! I recommend "Gas Guzzlers" and "Darksiders")
- GameStream is neat (Gamestream is not quite as "Set it and forget it" as Grid but it is being improved all of the time. The downside is that you need to make sure that you have the right video card, processor, ram, and Wireless connection. It basically takes over your computer and allows you to see what is on your computer screen on your Shield.)
- Even without all of the stuff in this other section, the Shield is an amazing purchase. Come on, do it, it is worth it!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for travel/on the go gaming

Pros: Great looking screen, great feel on the controls, fast Tegra 4 chipset. Fantastic battery life, excellent WiFi performance. If you are a gamer and need to take it on the road this is IT. I use the Grid Beta functions from time to time and see some real opportunities to stream some great games.

The HDMI features are good in console mode.

Cons: There aren't really any cons. This is not a phone - nor should it be. It would be ULTIMATE if it had a camera and LTE that could be used for phone calls (via bluetooth) and gaming.

Other Thoughts: I'm enjoying Half Life 2 on the Shield a lot - makes me wonder when we'll see CounterStrike Source on Shield and the rest of the Source games library up for sale. Quite honestly I'd like to see the Steam application for Android improved/upgraded for Shield play.

I have an Nvidia 580 and am not taking advantage of the streaming capability from my PC. When I'm home and want to play PC games I sit in front of my PC. When I'm on the road I'm pwnin' noobs on Shadowgun: Deadzone w00t!!!

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: -Stream games away from Pc

Cons: -350mbps for 5ghz channel
-can only connect through channel 149 and up for 5ghz

Other Thoughts: Its a decent device that can stream games when your not in your room or simply just laying in bed. The shield can only receive 350mbps for 5ghz; So if your looking for a dual band router dont buy the overly expensive 1350mbps or even 800 mbps for the 5ghz channel.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

Pros: -Excellent battery life. You can let it idle for weeks before it dies and it lasts for hours of gaming.
-Powerful hardware for great looking games, exceptionally smooth operation, and flawless emulation.
-Controller is comfortable to hold and is on par with other console controllers
-Controller use outside of games (like the virtual mouse) is actually quite useful.
-Screen looks great, despite being smaller than I'd like
-Quiet. Even when the fan ramps up it's not very noticeable.
-Great speakers. The bass response is kind of low but they sound very nice overall.
-Streaming PC games is absolutely amazing (see other thoughts)

Cons: -I would love for there to be a volume rocker, rather than a single button and touch screen controls. The onscreen volume adjustment just gets in the way
-Large bezel. Would be great to have another half inch or so added to the screen.
-Heavy. When holding it up for awhile you will have noticeable arm fatigue. The weight comes from the incredible build quality though.
-As of writing this there's a problem with writing data to SD cards formatted with exFAT or NTFS. This is a problem for storing large games and media on external storage to free up space on the internal flash.

Other Thoughts: By far the most compelling reason to purchase this device is the ability to stream full PC games. I was completely blown away by how well it works. I have a pretty low end router directly from my ISP, not dual band. Streaming from my PC works very well despite this. It's usually very smooth and image quality is great, with only a few issues every now and then. Of course the downside here is you need a Kepler or Maxwell based GPU (GTX 650 or better) in order to stream. What surprised me even more, though, is Nvidia Grid. Grid is a system in which you stream games through Nvidia's servers rather than your own PC. It's currently in beta and Nvidia has stated it will only work in California as the only server is located in San Jose. I live in eastern Colorado, about 700 miles away, and Grid works marvelously. I consistently get solid image quality and frame rates with a little stutter or lag here and there. This really impressed me, and I can't wait for Grid to get out of beta. Once it fully launches, The Shield will be much more compelling for people without a high end Nvidia graphics card.

Overall, I love this thing. I find myself using it a lot for more than just gaming, like Netflix. I would recommend it to any PC gamer.
