4 out of 5 eggsGood but just for USA!

Pros: Quality is good with my PS2

Cons: The Tuner isn't compatible with Canadian signals (both antenna and regular analog cable). I keep getting "This tuner is not supported in Canada" error with every media center.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Device

Pros: The Manufacturer has up to date drivers on its website. Card works in Windows 7 Media Center both 32 bit and 64 bit. Display's good picture quality output from both digital and analog sources. Of course analog TV on an HDTV are going to look bad, other reviewers seem to think its the cards fault, when it is not

Cons: I don't particular care for the layout of the remote. The channel guide button should be place lower in the middle or bottom part of the remote. Its functional and will just take some getting used to.

Other Thoughts: This card is a great value for its price. Stable with the right motherboard. Digital picture is great, better than through Comcast as over the air digital is not as compressed

Pros: NONE!

Cons: Let's start out with when I received the package: the TV tuner is just sitting inside the box, with not static bag protecting it. It can shift around and hit the other things in the box. Poor packaging on AverMedia's part.
Second, The card just did not work. I tried it in 2 different computers, both of which are up to spec for this card, and I couldn't get the tv tuner to work in either computer.
third,
I could only get the card to work through the S-Video port, and that was really bad quality. It reminded me of a TV tuner I bought 3 years ago for $20.
forth, AverMedia has terrible tech support. They emaild me back usually the day after I submitted a question/asked a different question, and they would reply at the end of business around 5pm.

Other Thoughts: Don't get this card. Get one that is worth it.
I bought this somewhere else (sorry Newegg) because I wanted it as a Christmass present, and it's easier to ask my parents for something from a place they already have accounts, I'm just glad they have a return policy...

My Specs:
ASUS M4N98TD EVO
Athlon II x4 640 (3.0GHz)
4Gb 1333 DDR2 G.Skill Ram

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

The TV Tuner supports analog, OTA digital, or unencrypted digital cable. If you are using cable directly from the wall for analog cable or a cable box the cable must be connected to TV Input (analog) to pick up a signal. If you are using an antenna or trying to get unencrypted digital cable (without cable box) then cable must be connected to ANT input (digital) to pick up a signal.

1 out of 5 eggsWarning****

Pros: It did work well for a year or so

Cons: My computer started crashing at random -- and then stopped all together. Diagnostics pointed to an unidentified hardware problem. I replaced all the components except the AVerMedia card and my BlueRay drive. Same problem. Everything checked out, but Windows 7 would not load either from a disk or the CD. It started and crashed. After hours of trouble shooting I decided to remove the TV card. Everything suddenly worked. I tossed the card. This problem cost me more than $2000, plus the loss of my PC for three weeks!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We have updated drivers on our website that supports Windows 7 OS. Please download and then install the drivers for either Win 7 32 bit or 64 bit from the following URL. http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=480&tab=APDriver

2 out of 5 eggsCard screws up offten

Pros: Video that does record looks great

Cons: the card randomly screws up. the video goes out and the audio makes a really annoying sounds. Most of the time it grabs channels just fine. But it sucks when u sit down to watch your favorite show and find out it messed up half way thru

Other Thoughts: there are better cards out there. Just spend the extra cash and get a Hauppauge

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Please contact Technical Support to help troubleshoot the issue.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but not great

Pros: Setup was simple. Works well with Windows 7 x64. HD quality is good. Analog quality is poor; I guess I need a signal booster. Works with COMCast QAM.

Cons: They claim that you can record and watch two programs; this isn't exactly true. You can only record/watch two programs if one is using the ATSC/QAM tuner, and the other is using the analog tuner.

Other Thoughts: The card seems to run hot; I wonder if I would have been happier with a dual tuner Hauppague.

1 out of 5 eggsShe's a 'no good'!

Pros: * Comes with WMC remote
* Has a 'daughter board' for connecting IR blasters
* Works on Win 7 64-bit with Windows Media Center

Cons: * Takes FOREVER to scan for channels (30 minutes plus and in several instances found zero channels)
* Receives only ATSC (over the air) channels
* Will NOT receive clearQuam or analog cable channels
* In an effort to get cable channels I installed the software that came with it. HORRIBLE!!! It picked up much fewer stations than WMC (12 versus 28). Also, when viewing with AverMedia's software, the picture was a small 'box' within their application! It was IMPOSSIBLE to view ONLY the broadcast. You are forced to look at their horrible interface while trying to watch TV!

Other Thoughts: Steps I took;

1. Connected Antenna & cable from wall. Used WMC, got 24 OTA & 0 cable stations.
2. Card set cable type as analog. I’m not sure though, since when scanning with TV I get 120 digital AND 12 analog. I manually set it as digital, rescanned & got 28 OTA & 0 cable stations.
3. I swapped the Antenna & cable inputs, scanned, got 12 OTA & 0 cable stations.
4. I read a review where the poster said he ‘split’ the cable from the wall & ran BOTH to the 2 inputs. So, I unhooked the Antenna, split the cable & ran both to the card. 22 OTA & 0 cable stations.
5. I then installed AverMedia’s software in an attempt to get cable stations. Again, 0 cable stations.
After that, I removed it & am returning it.

One other thing–maybe I’m dumb, but why don’t TV cards have a coax out to the TV? That way you could watch TV without having to turn the PC on. I bought this primarily for recording TV, so when I’m just watching, it makes no sense to watch it through the PC.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

In AVer MediaCenter you can click on Live TV or double click the video display to go to Full Screen. when configuring cable signal there are three options to choose for signal type. Cable Standard, Cable HRC, and Cable IRC. Try using the other signal type to pick up more channels.

Please contact Technical Support at 877-774-4543 if you have any questions.

3 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: - allows you to rip old video in a click of the button
- watch both digital and analog TV with the same card

Cons: - remote control drive crashes when sleep and user unable to awaken the system without hard boot.
- user need to close the driver process from Task manager.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's an average system. That's what you can expect for around a $100.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent HD cable performance, poor SD

Pros: HD reception is excellent for unscrambled HD channels, with Brighthouse Networks (Bakersfield, CA). Channel switching is fast, remote works well.

Cons: Regular channel (Non-HD) reception is horrible, with the above cable company. I have tried fine-tuning, with no improvement. I had a regular TV hooked up to the same connection before and analog picture quality was fine. Because the card requires seperate input for digital and analog, I run a splitter. But I tested the cable out form both outputs on my regular TV and reception is just finr. Maybe software issue? or something wrong with the hardware?

Other Thoughts: Installation was fine, no major headaches, except for the analog cable reception.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
To improve Analog Video quality, you can use a signal booster/amplifer. You are comparing your Tube TV that can only displays 480i lines to your monitor that displays Analog TV in high resolution, and this is not valid compare.
Another way if you are using a cable box please use S-Video input that is avaliable on board.
