4 out of 5 eggsNice picture

Pros: Its simple great picture for HDMI watching live TV IN FULL SCREEN

Cons: You cannot multitask with this when recording it skips.
This has to run by itself
It need a simple recording feature for time say when you want to record just put in how long.
Now you have to schedule the recording to get the time to what you want.
to many steps for something thAT SHOULD BE SIMPLE.

4 out of 5 eggsGonna be famous now!

Pros: It just works. Solid, simple software. Lag Free. Low CPU overhead. Compact. Easy Install. Windows 8.1 compatible. Solid picture quality. Great recordings at very adjustable bitrates, resolutions and output codecs.

Cons: Cant REALLY do 1080i. In 1080i from my xbox 360 it ghosts very noticeably. It is not unusable, but it is not professional quality. Others have noted this and have tracked down the cause to the deinterlace codec this card uses.
The solution is to simply set the xbox 360 hdmi output to 720p. Its a bummer if you have a 1080p screen, but the truth is that the vast majority of xbox games are no more than 720p many others are even lower. So actually this may help your overall resolution as the xbox scalar is not at work as often.
That being said, the so so 1080i res is worth knocking off an egg.

1 out of 5 eggsworked and then did not work

Pros: Installation was quick and simple. Software left a little bit to be desired - try AVS4YOU instead. Transfers of shows from DVR to DVD with pretty good quality.

Cons: After about six months, card or cable (can't tell which) just stopped working. Win8 device manager shows card is working properly but getting no signal according to Avermedia software

prior to card/cable failing completely, would start video capture and after some period of time, monitor would go blank. ctrl+alt+del would do nothing. Only choice was to restart pc.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: -Works with almost no latency, making it easy to use the source display on-screen while capturing.
-Cables for every input type, save VGA, means practically every system out there can have its gameplay captured
-Small form factor means the card can go in just about any open PCI-Express slot without getting in the way.

Cons: -Had a bit of audio drift when using component on an Xbox 360 (audio would get farther and farther behind the video)
-Inputs are oddly named when using OBS.
-Hard to tell which audio connectors are which, sometimes leading to selecting the wrong audio source or only getting one side.
-Can't capture HDCP-enabled material, at least not directly through OBS.

1 out of 5 eggsCrashes Computer

Pros: When it works it captures video quite well.

Cons: This will cause frequent crashing and frezzing of my computer when the card is installed. (win 8.1). Only seems to work wiht avermedia software. And cant be used.

Other Thoughts: I would like to try a higher end card to see what happens but this sucked all my money for that last year and im sceptical to use aver again.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well after a year

Pros: Easy to install. Software not real elegant, but it does the job. Video quality pretty good considering the H.264 file size. The price was right.

Cons: Video quality, while pretty good, exhibits some encoder problems that cause video freezes, aliasing, bit errors and blockiness. I recognize that this is not a professional-grade video capture device, but periodic encoder updates from Avermedia would be appreciated.

The software that comes with this is sort of squirrelly. You can advance through the setting screens by using the down arrow on a keyboard but not by rolling the roller on a mouse or clicking the down arrow on the screen; both jump you to the LAST screen.

Other Thoughts: I use this as a DVR. I split the HDMI output from my set top box and ran one HDMI connection to this card installed in a HTPC. I'm using an i3 CPU and the video from my MB chipset, so nothing fancy in terms of a video card. The HTPC HDMI video out goes to my TV. I use the included software to schedule recording. I don't have a game console, so I'm missing out on a lot of the problems other users are experiencing.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I needed

Pros: Captures video in HD via HDMI or Composite
Software can display live feed from any input source
Software is much easier to work with than Windows Media Center.

Cons: I wish the software had an option to launch automatically into the live TV mode. You have to click twice to get into a full screen display of live TV (or whatever your preferred input signal).

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for the sole purpose of viewing TV on a PC from an AT&T U-Verse tuner box in HD quality.
I was surprised at the lack of options to make this happen. The cheapest Hauppauge product that would accomplish this was twice as much as this AverMedia one. I was able to install the card and software, connect it to the tuner via Composite video (YPBPR) and L/R audio, and was viewing HD TV in about 1 minute of software setup. This is SOOOO much easier than Windows Media Center. No complaining about a missing IR device, no unnecessary scanning for channels. This thing did what I needed and the price was cheaper than anything else I could find. I have had no lockup or signal problems either so far.

2 out of 5 eggsHD dissapointment

Pros: Easy to install the drivers and to use the software.

Cons: I bought this to record HD component video. I have tried it in two 3 GHz Core2 Duo computers. One XP with 2 GB RAM and one Win7 Pro 64-bit with 4 GB RAM. Both computers exceed the published requirements for my intent. Audio is great but video is very choppy. Many clear freeze frames but no fluid motion.

Other Thoughts: Maybe it will work once I get a next generation computer but for now Core2 Duos do all I need (except for this?)

I am really disappointed the published system requirements are incorrect.
