Compact and lightweight, the AVerMedia DVD EZMaker 7 is designed to digitize analog video recordings on VHS tapes for easy storage, editing, and sharing. It features S-Video and Composite inputs for connection to home video devices, and a USB connector to transfer the captured content to your computer. Also included are CyberLink PowerDirector 9 DE and PowerProducer 5 DVD, which allow you to organize, edit, and refine your videos like a pro, and even share your videos on YouTube and Facebook!
It does work, but...
This review is from: AVerMedia DVD EZMaker 7 - Digitalize Your Precious Moment! C039 USB 2.0 Interface
Pros: I used it to convert 1 (1 so far) VHS tape with the included software, and it worked. It recorded it at the same quality the tape played at on the tv directly through the vcr. I played another video through a older camcorder and it had some nice looking quality on the computer screen with the included software, but I didnt try capture that, but Im sure it would have been fine
Cons: I was unable to use my adobe premier elements 12 to capture. There was no audio. Furthermore, after uninstalling the included software (not the drivers), adobe would no longer even display the video, it looked like an old static ridden tv channel. I tried using the S-video part of the device, but nothing happened, no video. I am assuming that part of this device I have doesn't work, but I havent fully confirmed that, but the RCA part does work just fine. Also, the drivers on the included disk didnt work on my windows 7, so just go get the newest drivers from the website of avermedia and it works fine. I also recommend installing the drivers BEFORE you plug this into your USB port. That seemed to work the best for me, but results can vary
Other Thoughts: This will do for what I need it to do, and it seems to work reasonably fine. I just wish I could use adobe for the capturing due to the fact it is more robust, but, I can live with it. I have not tested other software, so there may be better alternatives out there to use with this device. But if you need basic converting and saving of your old VHS style tapes, this does work (not sure about the S-video part though). Another thing to keep in mind, the CD key for the software that is included is written on the back of the actual CD itself, not in the instruction booklet or anywhere else
