4 out of 5 eggsFine

Pros: Does what it's suppose to do without much fuss.

Cons: Doesn't do what it does particularly well.

Other Thoughts: Its basic, performs at a basic level and is basically a good product, but FAR from professional, then again it doesn't advertise itself as professional and the price is appropriately low. Works well enough for my purpose, basic VHS to DVD conversion.

2 out of 5 eggsNew Version: Does not work with Linux

Pros: Cheap and Compact

Cons: New version does not work with linux

Other Thoughts: I was looking to get a device that would work with linux. Unfortunately, it looks like the manufacturer has changed the underlying hardware, but kept the same product model number.
Older version, known to work with linux:
Device ID: idVendor=eb1a, idProduct=2860

Newer version, based on an Empia EM 2980 chipset does not work with Linux:
Device ID: idVendor=1b80, idProduct=e60b

2 out of 5 eggsCan't Get to work on VHS

Pros: *Cheap
*Worked well if it deemed your device worthy

Cons: *Very selective on what device it decided to work on
*Software is quite outdated

Other Thoughts: I spent about two weeks trying to get this thing to work on several VCRs, DVD players, computers, and cables. I could not solve this black flickering that persisted through every piece of equipment I had. Strangely enough, it had no problem recording old video game consoles and held up quite well even after an hour of recording. But that isn't what I wanted it for, so back to the abyss it goes.

1 out of 5 eggsGARBAGE!!

Pros: 0

Cons: When you buy something with your hard earned cash, you expect it to work without all this "find and download the right driver and it SHOULD work" falderall!

I don't have the time nor the patients for poorly engineered product that doesn't work right out of the box! I'm returning mine right now!!

1 out of 5 eggsAffirmative. Worthless piece of junk

Pros: None

Cons: My project was to convert old VHS home videos of the family. The unit worked ok to do Video but was not great. For audio it was horrible. I even tried to just use my laptop for the audio input and the software will not let you use anything but this Interface.

Other Thoughts: So what do you do when something does not work. Go to the support website right? Well try and find a website for this product before you buy it. GOOD LUCK!

Take all the bad reviews as your warning.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Great for converting those old VHS tapes or Camcorder tapes to digital or DVD.

Cons: Bundled software is extremely outdated and weak.

Other Thoughts: The adapter itself has been working great for me. The software leaves something to be desired. The bundled software that came with the adapter (Cyberlink Powerdirector 10) is vastly outdated, current version is Powerdirector 12. I am currently looking around for a better program to use as this one is causing a lot of dropped frames. While I cannot completely rule out the adapter as the cause, various troubleshooting guides suggest it is software related or hardware related. Well, I far exceed their recommended specs, so I am going with software. Overall, for the price, I cannot complain too much. Pretty much the same package at Best Buy cost double when I looked there. If I can get the software situation figured out so I don't have dropped frames, then I'll be golden. I will update my review if needed later on.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless piece of junk

Pros: Absolutely NOTHING

Cons: The fact that this thing doesn't work with ANY video capture software is one major con.
And what's with the button on the unit just stuck on there arbitrarily?

Other Thoughts: Avoid this thing like the plague

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product, Great Price

Pros: Cheap
All Software needed is Included
Works Well

Cons: Sometimes Recording Stops if it thinks there is protected content

Other Thoughts: For the price of this little device it's perfect. If you want to record standard definition video to your hard drive then this is a great entry level device. I used this to transfer home movies from VHS to HDD and ultimately to DVD. Obviously VHS needs to be recorded in real-time unlike a digital media that could copy in a fraction of the time it would take to watch the video. Saying that I easily put 36+ hours of use on this device in under a week and it held up perfectly, even recording up to 5 hours in 1 sitting.
The only downside I can think of this device (more the software) is that occasionally it would stop recording what it deemed to be "protected content" this occured only a handful of times when the VHS cassette went under auto-tracking. The feature could also be considered helpful though since there were a couple tapes where we had recorded home videos over recorded TV shows, the device would stop recording at the end of the home movies when the recorded TV show started playing again.

All software needed is included with this device. I used my own DVD making software but this product did include it.

1 out of 5 eggsDied for no reason

Pros: Worked for 5 VHS tapes.

Cons: Used it 5 times and it worked fine. Unplugged it and didn't use it for about a year, plugged it in to convert a VHS to's dead! Nice...

Other Thoughts: Going to try a different brand. How does an electronic device die sitting in a desk drawer unplugged?
