5 out of 5 eggsGreat card!

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: Portable
Easy to setup
High Quality Recording (via PC and SD card)
Very customizable and flexible to user's desire
Has option for Live Commentary and separate audio files
2 different formats for the raw recording (TS and MP4)
Ability to Live Stream straight from Rec Central (AverMedia's free program for the LGP)

Cons: Bottom rubber feet are magnets to dust (not a big con, just note that)
Only comes with 1 HDMI cord and it is VERY short (6inches I think)

Other Thoughts: It's a great card and I would recommend it any day to anyone that is interested in starting Youtube or anything else to do with video recording for whatever they use it for.

2 out of 5 eggsWon't rec/stream copyrighted games, and ALL games are Copyrighted. NOT EASY TO USE!!!

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: Sets up quickly, has easy to follow instructions and for the first month worked as advertised. However, lately, anything i try to record or stream is blocked as copyrighted.

Cons: No longer records or streams ANYTHING without a need to figure out complex creative workarounds that sacrifice resolution quality to pull off.

Other Thoughts: Don't get this unless you enjoy tinkering to make things work reliably. If you would enjoy fixing up the Millenium Falcon then you might enjoy using this, but if you have that level of tinkering skill, then you could/should use a different product designed for advanced users. This is marketed as easy to use, but it has now been rendered obsolete to people looking for easy to use items.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: - Good Quality
- Easy to get started. Was up in running in no time.
- Easy to record in PC-Free mode.

Cons: - Skips frames ever 15 minutes during PC-Free mode
- Software is buggy, can crash from time to time.
- Requires SD card, instead of Flashdrive.
- Only accepts Fat32 SD cards, which splits the files in segments. Which causes the missing frames. Should went with different file format.

Other Thoughts: If you want a capture device I would stick with desktop versions. HD-PVR 2 or Elgato HD60. Both do a great job.

5 out of 5 eggsBought this for Linux

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: Device works standalone. That is, combined with a HDMI powered splitter, this device can record 720p HD of any HDMI source to a SDHC card. The files are 4GB chunk (due to vfat on the SDHC) h264/aac mpegts files... they can be concatenated into one file and transcoded using things like HandBrake. It is an easy way of recording the ouput of your PC via HDMI, or Roku, etc. An powered HDMI splitter will handle the disabling HDCP on the capture side.

Cons: No native driver support for Linux, so cannot do 1080p captures.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this device as a very portable way to capture HD audio/video. And the resulting files can be easily processed with Linux.

4 out of 5 eggsPC free mode is great!

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: Had this since October of last year, works great for recording Xbox 360 gameplay, have only used PC free mode, works great once you get it going.

Cons: SD cards must be in fat32 format, Avermedia is zero help as far as this goes, will post link to app in other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Don't get a Sandisk SD card to use with this, even their high end ones can produce choppy files, go with a Transcend card, using a 25Mb/s card and all vids are smooth. Use this to format your card http://download.cnet.com/2Tware-Fat32Format/3000-2094_4-75623509.html

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: -Extremely good audio/video recording quality
-No frame/performance loss while recording
-Great quality in PC free mode (still 1080p, but the bit rate is a little lower)
-Small form factor
-Great software/drivers
-Easy set-up

Cons: -Doesn't make me bacon

Other Thoughts: I've seen a lot of negative reviews on this device. There are obviously some duds, but that's the case with ALL electronic devices. For the people who are having issues with the audio passthrough, you have to tell the AverMedia RECentral software that you are using the passthrough. It will NOT automatically detect it. Also, on the Avermedia website there are great forums and FAQs on the product and workarounds for common issues. This great device.

2 out of 5 eggsNot ready for mass usage

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: Nice feature set. Nice package. Great idea. Great price.

Cons: HDMI audio pass through and recording doesn't work on my unit. All I hear is the a chopping sound. This might be a bad unit, but there's no way to tell because most of the support infrastructure for this device is not yet in place yet. Avermedia's support web site has a lot of "under construction" links. I hate to return things but there is little choice. Even if it turns out to be user error.

Other Thoughts: Might be a good product but support isn't ready.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but....

This review is from: AVerMedia C875 (Live Gamer Portable) Video Device

Pros: +When it works, it works amazingly. This picture is sharp and very close to the source image while streaming (this kind of depends on your internet as well).
+Light and compact. Very good design.
+HDMI.
+Packaging is amazing. Brovo here avermedia.

Cons: -Was a pain to get working with the PS3. Had to randomly mess with settings to finally get it to work.
-Had to return the first one and get a replacement because the first was DOA
-Rec Central(the software) is required to get this thing to work at all. I really don't mind the program itself, but I wish I could use it with out it. However, if you don't run the software, your console will not be recognized.
-The HDMI cable that comes with this is literally about a foot long, which makes you have to either put the thing in an awkward place, or get a longer cord. Seems like they could have just included a normal size cord here for what you pay for this thing.
-The price is too high for this... seriously.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase. However, a person who is not a tech inclined as myself (or maybe just not as stubborn?) might have serious issues getting this thing to work. Avermedia needs to make the whole thing more user friendly like they did with the Game Capture HD. That thing was so simple and easy to use (and it had a remote!).
