Simply connect it with your game console and a USB 3.0 PC/ laptop, launch the video software you love, and you are ready to record or share your splendid gameplay footage.

Voice Commentary
Sometimes, you just need to speak while your game. Simply connect the microphone to your PC, adjust the PC audio settings, and recording live commentary is just one click away! Even better, the voice commentary can be saved separately in MP3 format for post-production.
Game & Record on the Same Monitor
In the past, you needed two monitors when you game with a capture card, one for recording and one for video pass-through, to avoid the video latency caused by insufficient USB 2.0 bandwidth. Now, you can just get rid of this mess with AVerMedia’s advanced USB 3.0 technology. ExtremeCap U3 can transfer video content almost simultaneously to your PC. You can play straight on the preview window of your video software, no need for another monitor and no need to worry about the latency.
Work Seamlessly with Your Favorite Software
The ExtremeCap U3 works perfectly with DirectShow compliant software, such as XSplit, OBS, Wirecast, VLC media player and PotPlayer. Editing or streaming uncompressed HD footage with the software you love is just that easy.
Edit with Sony Vegas & Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
The Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 plug-ins are included in the package. They provide smarter operation flows to make you utilize the video editing tools and audio effects of these popular video software titles efficiently. No more wasting time moving HD projects back and forth.
The included USB 3.0 Diagnosis Tool is software for testing the performance of the connected USB 3.0 port. It shows if the USB 3.0 port on your desktop or laptop is capable of transmitting 1080p 60fps video content. The tool provides an option to convert the video frame rate while the bandwidth of the USB 3.0 port is insufficient.

Pros: Works great. No frame rate issues. No buggy software issues. Easy to set up once you retrieve the software. Literally no need for a pass through (there's less delay for the image on my computer screen than if I were to duplicate the display to a TV screen via. HDMI). Nothing wrong on my end for any of its features.
Cons: Ports pull out. I moved recently and, as a consequence, had to unplug the cords from the back of the unit. When I went to do this, however, the socket for the USB3 cord on the unit ripped straight out of the unit. I didn't put any excessive force on the cable. The cable I was using came with the unit. The metal shroud inside the unit that gripped the cord and connected it to the unit simply came out with the cord.
Other Thoughts: This is seriously a great unit and if highly recommend anybody that makes machinimas, makes lets plays on a console, or simply want to capture gameplay to take a look at this. My unit is broken. However, I will be buying another one as soon as I get a chance. I have used 5 capture cards prior to this and had to keep switching due to compatability issues, breaking, bad design, or simply not performing. This one has given me the most life as well as the best quality of any of the others, and can run on relatively weak systems. If you're gentle with it, it'll serve you well

Pros: -Easy to install -Easy to use. -Does 1080p/60 capture under the right conditions. -Lag free capture so you can play from the preview window without having to pass through to another display. -Can hook into any DirectShow capable third-party recording or streaming software. -Comes with Component breakout cable if needed.
Cons: -Requires a specific handful of USB 3.0 chipsets to work properly. -Frequent video stutter when capturing at 60fps, even on system well beyond requirements. -Commentary track is out of sync if recording to a separate file. -Very lossy compression, even at high bit rates. -No hardware compression. -Infrequent driver and firmware updates. -Horrendous customer support.
Other Thoughts: I run a YouTube channel and purchased this over a year ago to capture footage from console games. This can capture from HDMI or Component sources at up to 1080p/60. At least, that's what it advertises but the reality is even under ideal conditions, it will struggle to do so.
It only supports Intel, Renesas and Fresco Logic USB 3.0 chipsets. Certain VIA and ASMedia chipsets also work but only under Windows 8 or 10, using specific drivers. Nothing else will work properly. They provide a utility to test this but only if you buy the unit first.
I run a Core i7-2600K overclocked to 4.6Ghz with an Intel USB 3.0 chipset, miles beyond the requirements. Even then, I still had frequent problems with frames bring dropped during 60fps capture, even at 720p. I can capture at 1080p/60 lossless on this same PC while also running the game I'm capturing and I don't get stutters like this. If you Google the issue, you'll see it's VERY common with this unit. It's basically hit and miss as to whether you'll run into it. It doesn't happen when capturing at 30fps but if that's all you need, there's no point in buying a USB 3.0 unit.
It's also had a persistent bug since I got it where if you record commentary to a separate MP3 file, it will always be out of sync with your footage, requiring manual corrections. Even if you don't run into these problems, the footage you get is lossy and has lots of artifacts, even at a high bit rate and especially if you're playing a high motion game. The unit has no hardware encoding (despite marketing spun claims to the contrary) so if you don't have a beefy CPU, forget recording at high bit rates.
AVerMedia has never released a firmware update since I bought this and has only updated their software and drivers twice, neither of which have fixed any of the bugs I've encountered. Their support is also terrible. If you submit a ticket, you'll be lucky to receive a response at all and if you do, it almost never answers the question you asked.
Nearly every AVerMedia product is riddled with complaints online. It's a good entry level device if you're lucky to not run into any issues but it's a complete dice roll as to whether or not you will. Between this, the lousy driver support and the horrendous service, don't even go near this unless you're a Newegg Premier member and get free returns. I upgraded from this to a StarTech PEXHDCAP60L, a higher end internal capture card that's a rebranded Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI. It costs over twice as much but is rock solid, has more capture options, never flinches and has great driver support.
For the price, this product should be much better than it is. Unless you're willing to take a risk, skip this and really, anything with AVerMedia branding.

This review is from: AVerMedia CV710 ExtremeCap U3 Capture Card
Pros: +It works as advertised
Cons: -First-party software lacks many options, including hardware encoding
Other Thoughts: I would not have bought it if it wasn't on sale, as it is really only meant for particular set-ups. The advertised no/low latency preview really only be used as such--there's a very slight delay that unfortunately makes it difficult to play precise, high-action games on.
The first-party software lacks many options, including the ability to select third-party encoding options, which is easily remedied through available third-party software.

Pros: n/a
Cons: n/a
Other Thoughts: I work in the Industrial/Machine Vision world. USB3 is the current "hot" thing. One thing all camera manufacturers require is that the USB3 controller chip be either Intel or Renesas. Only those two manufacturers allow full-bandwidth continuous streaming over USB3. Other manufacturers can handle "burst" data at USB3 speeds, but they can't maintain that speed. This could potentially explain the hit-or-miss results with this device. Newegg has Renesas-based PCIe cards for less than $20. That may solve the problems.
This review is from: AVerMedia CV710 ExtremeCap U3 Capture Card
Pros: When it works you do get 1080p/60FPS
Cons: -Get's a DRM message when trying to record from PS4 or Xbox One (probably with other consoles too) - Heavy screen tearing when going from PC to PC recording (Unless you spend another $100+ on a HDMI splitter -You pretty much need a HDMI splitter for this device to be useful if you're looking to capture from PC to PC or from current consoles.
Other Thoughts: I was heavily disappointed in this product, when I finally got it to record on a 2nd PC to reduce system lag it caused terrible screen tearing on the video.
Finally I thought, well it doesn't do what I need it to, but I can use it to capture video from my PS4, nope, not without some crazy workaround. All in all, this was a worthless product that can perform as high as it says, but getting it to work correctly either costs extra in a HDMI splitter or requires more effort than it's worth.

Pros: NewEgg service and shipping. Not much good to say about product, sorry to say.
Cons: Title says it all. Installation is supposed to be simple. Just says to plug the cable into USB 3.0. Says the light will stop blinking when it boots up. But it never stops blinking. Win 7 tells me it was unable to install a driver. So I start researching. Tech support is nonexistent, or ridiculously hard to find. When I finally located where to download the driver per instructions, the info about which driver to use is extremely nebulous. I read some things about certain types of USB 3.0 connection is necessary. NOWHERE in the install does it mention anything about this.
How much research does one have to do to get this card to work? I just want to set up a DVR with a box like this, my cable box, and my PC. Unable to even get the box to boot up.
I regret that I was unable to get back to NewEgg in time for an RMA; I've been working 12 and 13 hour days and haven't been able to deal with this. Too bad. I wish there were better ways of gathering info on this product, because now I'm stuck with it.

This review is from: AVerMedia CV710 ExtremeCap U3 Capture Card
Pros: -Captures 1080p 60fps uncompressed -Works with OBS -Works with my Canon Vixia HF21 and GoPro 2 -Works with Intel chipset (I own a Lenovo Y510p) -Included software works great for capturing video contents
Cons: Had to enable Safe Mode in the USB Diagnosis tools due to some image issues at random intervals. Even with that option enabled, there is no quality or frame loss I could find in the recorded videos or in the preview.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this primarily to broadcast events from my Canon Vixia HF21, and this does the job pretty well. I used OBS to perform the broadcast to YouTube and it worked excellent. CPU usage was around 60% in my Intel Core i7-4700MQ. There was no frame drop during the broadcast and I was also simultaneously recording the broadcast to my PC.
Also, just for fun I plug my Wii U to this capture card to play using my PC monitor and sometimes capture game footage which also works excellent.
Overall, if you are looking for a simple capture card, want to capture live events, or just connect your game console to your PC monitor, this will do the job.

Pros: NewEgg's shipping can't be beat!!
This card is blazingly fast (when working has advertised).
-1080p@60 capable. (Recording and capturing) -Simple to use software (when it works) -Provided AV In can be used as an audio input solution. -Captures HDMI sound (also when it does work)
Cons: Let's talk about the HDMI Audio capture... I have not yet figured out why it works with some devices and some others it simply does not. Must be some kind of encoding or HDCP issue that I do not yet understand but once again, the device is picky and I strongly believe the manufacturer should focus on making this little gem more compatible with some differents options out there.
The software's performance is extremely dependent on the card performing well. It also lacks support for multiple USB 3.0 chipset manufacturer and I do wonder why. My USB3.0 controller chipset is Etron, my laptop is Intel.
On my laptop, this little device works flawlessly where as on my computer, the software is hell, the device works half the time, I have incredible latency which renders it unusable for play and record at the same time. Heck, it's so bad I can't even play while capturing alone.
But all those cons seem to be because of hardware capabilities. While I think AverMedia should definitely focus on creating drivers that work better with a wider option of these manufacturers, they do state on their website what are the preferred ones. (NewEgg should also update that IMO)
Other Thoughts: This card has been tested on two different computer. While one works flawlessly, the other one is hell. So clearly the device is capable of what it promises. But keep in mind, it's kind of picky when it comes to certain things.
To all the bad reviewers, check your hardware. I can assure you that this device works well, assuming you have the minimum specs (not recommended) and that you have a USB controller that is compatible with.
I'd suggest grabbing a PEX20139 PCI Ex card as well with this device. That chipset seems to be the most compatible of all with AverMedia's USB solution. It also does not require things like being on Win8 or whatever as stated by their website.
When the device has a hard time establishing a stable connection, the software will become EXTREMELY buggy and the device's LED will blink from blue to red.
Oh and last, it does get hot while under work and when functional, the shiny blue LED is always up and bright with no options to turn it off. Some might dislike that.
