Other Thoughts: The user manual recommends using a portable hard drive rather than a flash drive, but I have had positive results using USB memory sticks, after reformatting them to be NTFS. The unit itself has no storage, so you must use your own media (depending on your preference, a pro or a con). The menus are not always instant, but is usually very responsive. The unit does allows signal passthrough when off (on standby), but it must be enabled using the menu. The unit only has HDMI input and output.

Most features require the remote control. I did not list this as a pro or con because that really depends on preference. The unit has a record button on it that is used for starting and stopping video recording only. Snapshots, playback, and all other features can only be done using the remote control. The remote has decent range, but only works when pointed at the unit, so if there is an obstruction or you are pointed more than about 40 degrees off, the remote will not work (again, a pro or con depending on preference).

Twice when it was first out of the box, it froze on me when I renamed the unit in "product settings" in order to add a watermark to the videos (an optional feature). I have 'renamed' the unit many times since (in order to change the watermark), and have never had that problem again.

I have not recorded more than 30 minutes of continuous video, and I have not had the unit in continuous operation for longer than 6 hours.

Pros: Works very well recording HDMI content @ 30p

Cons: Does not like hard drives that go to sleep on their own. It will lock up. The HDMI output like to resync or reset when you enter or exit menus even though it looks like it does not have to. I would like to see this fixed as it makes it take longer to deal with. Not all TVs have issues with this.

It sais in the documentation that this is for stand alone recording only and is the direct reason I bought it.

This is a spin off of a higher end product and the USB is residual of that. A USB pc capture would have been nice but I knew this buying it.

Pros: All functions outside of recording a video stream work very well.

Cons: On my system the video recording did not work, I am returning it for a refund.
