2 out of 5 eggsNo Display During Boot Process or BIOS Access

Pros: The driver did update & works with Windows 8.1.

Cons: There is NO graphics display during the boot-up process, so you can NOT enter BIOS or see any load process or OS messages. The display only activates at the desktop or at OS password entry. Since this is a USB device it is possible to have a basic VGA hard coded for the boot-up process too, but I can not find any that will do this too. So, you will ALSO need a standard graphics card or motherboad or CPU with graphics built-in to see the boot-up process, OS load messaging, or access to your BIOS.

Other Thoughts: I only gave 2 stars because it is omitted from the specs that there is no display during boot or for BIOS access.... see Cons above.

Otherwise, the display quality seemed good for desktop use... Not ideal for gaming or high intensity video/graphics use, but well suited for Internet or word processing or other desktop apps/software or adding more monitors.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dean M,

I am very sorry for any confusion as the UV+39 unit is only designed to be used as a secondary display and not as a primary display. Due to the way this product works it will not show anything until Windows has completed loading the drivers for the product. Please do not hesitate to call our 24 hour technical support at 1-888-881-3842 option 1 or by email at Newegg@evga.com as we are here to assist you with any questions or concerns that you may have with our products.

Sincerely,
EVGA Customer Support

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Compatible with all my laptops, sharp and stable picture, works as intended.

Cons: see note

Other Thoughts: A bit laggy when things move very fast - might not be ideal for gaming, however not noticeable for productivity and watching videos. I was expecting this given that it's USB, and it performs flawlessly for this purpose, so I don't consider it a con.

4 out of 5 eggsWorkes well OOTB but doesnt deliver 2048x1152 as advertised

Pros: After having another brand/model USB display adapter blue screen and bork my OS I tried this model after reading good reviews on stability. This thing delivers...rock solid stable. I see no lag of any type with mouse movements or even video running @ 1920x1200 (havent tried gaming). It works well on all kinds of monitors (other than the one I describe below). Have not tested via HDMI.

Cons: Won't run 2048x1152 on my Yamakasi Catleap Q270 which I can run 2560x1440 with my PC graphics card.

Not sure if that's a driver issue or what, but when I try to run that res my monitor says "Not optimal resolution - recommended resolution is 1440x900" which makes no sense to me.

Tried messing with settings via the windows graphics properties manager as well as the DisplayLink manager but no difference. Maybe this will work on other high-res monitors like a Dell or HP at that resolution, but I wouldnt buy this if you're planning to try it on a no-name high-res monitor like mine.

Other Thoughts: Running this on a Dell E5430 via docking station USB 3.0

5 out of 5 eggsNeed more than 2 displays on your laptop?

Pros: This device does drive 2 displays at the same time. Windows draw well when dragging between displays in most cases.

Cons: However, if you're watching Youtube or Netflix while you drag a window around, it does not draw so well. Just watching the movie alone seems to work well though.

Other Thoughts: I connect this up to an HP Elitebook 8540w with 4 gig of ram. I desperately needed more than 2 monitors for work and I'm defiantly happy with the performance I've got so far. I'm going to buy a second one in the next month or so to attach to the same computer.

5 out of 5 eggsIT works!

Pros: It worked well on DVI, never tried HDMI.

Cons: None, setup was easy. You might have to update your own USB 3.0 drivers first, but the EVGA had zero flaws.

Other Thoughts: I had to send it back for a similar product, but DisplayPort out.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Work

Pros: - Small footprint
- Easy to use. Control using a task bar icon.
- Stable, no problem putting Windows to sleep and turning it back on.
- Run HD video off a USB-2 port as well as expected (watchable from a distance).

Cons: None so far. No known conflict issue. (Windows update automatically updated the DisplayLink software driver.)

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: I use 3 monitors with it.
Stable. Fast. Easy install.

Cons: Lost connection when moving cables.
Maybe my usb cable connector is not good.

When PC wake up, it will take a short time for recovering 3 monitors.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: The unit itself works just fine. Had trouble downloading the drivers. You have to get them from the display link website not the evga website.

Cons: The USB3 cable that came with the unit was defective. I had to go buy another cable at a local computer store for $20 and it works just fine.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could get my money back for having to get a working cable.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Solution for Nvidia Cards

Pros: Looks good out of the box. This isn't something you would be embarrassed of sitting on your desk.

Cons: Will flat out kill the Nvidia Optimus drivers. Tried it on 3 different laptops, and whenever you launch any 3d application or game, it strobes like a disco, and crashes the program. YOu have to unplug and uninstall the drivers to get your 3D Nvidia cards working properly.

Other Thoughts: I wish someone would have mentioned this before I purchased. I can totally understand having to unplug it, or turning off the driver, but to have to do a complete uninstall to get your 3D graphics on your laptop to work? I would have thought better.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we will file this bug and hope to resolve this issue shortly.

Thank you,
Brandon B
