Add More USB Connections Without Compromise

Add More USB Connections Without Compromise
Everybody's got USB 2.0 peripherals - keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, joysticks, digital cameras, external drives, an iPod®, an iPhone® - and there never seems to be enough ports on a computer to plug all of them in at the same time. Problem solved - install a Sonnet Allegro™ USB PCIe in your computer to add five more USB 2.0 ports! Considering a hub? Consider the trade-offs. Every peripheral you plug in has to share a single port's bandwidth (potentially affecting the devices' performance), and you may have to plug it into a power outlet as well as your computer in order to operate some devices.

Add More USB Connections Without Compromise

Sonnet's Allegro USB PCIe adds five (four external, one internal) high-speed USB 2.0 connections to your computer without the need for an external box or AC power adapter - no trade-offs necessary. This Sonnet adapter features hot-pluggable and hot-swappable device connection support with automatic device configuration, so you can plug in and disconnect devices without having to shut down your computer. Each of Allegro USB PCIe’s five powered ports supports bus-powered peripherals (devices that work without a separate power supply, including some small external drives and scanners) and hi-speed data transmission. With no drivers to install, this card offers simple plug and play installation in Mac and Windows computers. Allegro USB PCIe adds more USB 2.0 connectivity to your computer, outside and in, without compromise.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: None for me.

Cons: Powered my usb devices and was listed under device manager as a "standard enhanced pci to usb" but of the 3 USB devices I wanted to use on it, which were all USB 2.0, none worked. I tried a Motu Microbook II, NI Audio Kontrol 1, and my Novation Mk2 49, and Windows did not recognize any of them or even try to find the drivers that were already installed. Furthermore, when I rebooted, Windows would not start and remained at black screen after the starting windows logo.

This came in a slim plastic bag with no padding and was thrrown in front of my door at my apartment complex. The manual was a paper that essentially said, "insert into PC. Turn on PC." and nothing else.

I have an MSI X99 SLI plus motherboard and am running Windows 7 64 bit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks!

Pros: Just drop it in and it works, no drivers.
Doesn't require molex connector if all you plan on connecting is keyboard/mouse. Better off using a powered USB hub if you want to use hard drives or all ports.

Cons: Stupidly expensive for what it is.
**Doesn't allow you to hold down the apple button and boot directly into Windows or OSX during boot, you have to use bootcamp. This is more of a limitation of how devices are initialized than a problem with this product.**

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if it were cheaper and somehow could accept keyboard input during bootup so mac users could choose to boot into Windows or OSX.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: I bought it for my Mac Pro (release 2010) that has PCIe and it worked with just installing the card without doing anything else.
I had searched for a USB card for my Mac and the site said I needed a PCI type card but Apple switched to PCIe on the Mac Pro (2010) the one before that are PCI.

Cons: None so far...

Other Thoughts: This card cost a little more but it worth it to be able to just install it and have it work. Plus I bought a cheaper card and it didn't work. I didn't buy this card from Newegg but I do buy most of my stuff from them. They ship the items out very fast.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: I have a Mac Pro. This card worked right out of the box. I did not need to install anything, and the speed was close to USB 2.0 standard. I use it for an array of external USB drives, and it works fine.

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsNot recognized

Pros: Construction seems to be good.

Cons: Installed the card and it does work at slow sppeds for my external hard drives but they are much faster plugged into another USB port. My Epson printer will not work (says it is printing) when plugged into the card but does work when plugged in another slot. I don't believe the driver is sufficent for Vista 64bit.

4 out of 5 eggsPricey, but work perfectly in Mac Pro

Pros: I tried similar cards from a different vendor that claimed Mac OS X support and they didn't work well. These however work flawlessly in a Mac Pro.

Cons: Not the cheapest cards around.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes you get what you pay for...
