The Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition external multi-display adapter adds up to two monitors to your Mac or PC laptop or desktop computer. It connects to the single Thunderbolt™, DisplayPort ™ or Mini DisplayPort video output of your system and uses the system's existing GPU to provide high-quality, uncompressed graphics and video across all monitors. Ideal for business and professional users looking to increase their productivity with a dual display setup, this little black box lets you run different applications on each monitor or view one application across two monitors. Also compatible with projectors, it includes Matrox PowerDesk software to easily manage your desktop configuration, and supports clone mode to show the same content on all displays. This external device is quick and easy to install, and won't void your system warranty.

2 out of 5 eggsTo Expensive for lack of options!!!

Pros: Purchased this product for the simple fact that it was all I could find on the internet at the time that would allow for dual monitor for my Early 2011 15" MacBook Pro (MBP) running Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. When the product arrived and I opened the box, I then realized that I need to purchase additional cables because these were only DisplayPort hook up's on the device. I did find some High Quality Black DisplayPort Male to HDMI Cable Male - 6 Feet / 2M on A****n and they arrived fast (4 days counting the weekend) but I had to wait those days before I could try this device out.

Well the cables arrived, I was excited, I opened all the packaging like a kid on Christmas, hooked everything up to the Thunderbolt connection, DisplayPorts to HDMI cables to the DualHead2go device and finally the HDMI to my two twin Asus VH236H 23-Inch Full-HD LCD Monitor with Integrated Speakers. Turned everything on, downloaded the Matrox drivers for Mac latest addition and set my screen resolution to the 2*

Cons: 20x1080. Everything was beautiful. I was happy that I finally got two monitors to work on my MBP. So, I closed the lid on my MBP, put it in my Twelve South BookArc for MacBook Pro and was ready to enjoy the vast real-estate that was in front of me....BUT THEN MY MONITORS WENT BLANK!!!! I thought...."What just happened!!!" When I closed the lid, it put the MBP to sleep and then in turn, turned off the USB that the DualHead2go was attached too. Big, BIG disappointment, because I have a mini-DispalyPort to HDMI adapter (made by Rocketfish Mini Display Port-to-HDMI Adapter) that when it is connected I "CAN" close the MBP and the Monitor stays on. So, then I started to mess with the setting, googling (Great tool when you need answers) and could not find anything that would allow for you to be able to close the MBP and just use the two external monitors. I tried to put the USB power supply on an ac plug (the one you use to charge an iPhone) thinking that would keep the device on at all

Other Thoughts: times, this didn't work either, it must be hooked to the computer that is running the DualHead2go device. So, my conclusion is that I think this might be an issue with the device itself, but for the price that you pay ($220 for the unit and $30 worth of extra wires), it should give you that option to be able to close the lid and use just the external monitors. I sent the DualHead2go back to get a refund. This product does not work for me and I cannot give it any higher then two stars. This product may work for you and your MBP if you would like to leave the MBP open to give yourself a smaller third screen.

5 out of 5 eggsworks for macbook air - 2010 edition

Pros: You will need both a usb port and mini-display port to run this box. I've only tried it with the macbook air and it worked well for me. The matrox software is necessary, but it's easy to setup and isn't overly burdensome. It does come with the display port to mini-display port cable, which was half the reason I went with this model since I didn't see it sold for a reasonable price by itself.

Cons: Not really a con but it doesn't come with any display port adapters to connect displays.

Other Thoughts: I use the triplehead 2go at work and the dualhead 2go at home and have no problems switching between them with the macbook air.
