5 out of 5 eggsWorked right out of the box

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: All 4 ports work, haven't tested power draw but just needed extra ports for webcam etc.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I downloaded the latest drivers off the Sunix website to be safe, didn't test functionality before that but windows indicated drivers installed fine.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed.... sketchy quality/functionality

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: None that I can determine.

Cons: Installed the Sunix USB 3.0 4 port PCI Express card into a new build, using an Asus Z87 Pro motherboard, Intel i7 processor, 32gb ram, Cooler Master 1k watt power supply.

Plugged a Rosewwill USB 3.0 external enclosure with Western Digital Black hard drive into the Sunix and it routinely takes 30 seconds to 'detect' the hard drive.... if it ever does at all. It will randomly disappear from my hard drive list also.

To test and make sure it wasn't my external hard drive or enclosure....I plugged the external hard drive into a motherboard 3.0 usb port and it is detected instantly and works without issue.

My only conclusion therefore, is that this card is unreliable. I cannot recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Linux Mint 17

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: Datasheet states;
* NEC Renesas system-on-a-chip, uPD720201.
* Windows XP/2003/Vista/7/2008/8/8.1 (32/64-bit)
* Linux 2.6.31 or later (Linux OS already implemented USB3.0 driver)

Worked for me on Linux Mint 17 out of the box. Reading and writing to 4TB USB3 drive.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfect

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: Plugged this puppy in almost a year ago and it is still humming along fine. Drivers installed easily. I have been running multiple USB devices off of it the entire time with no issues.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsDid not work reliably.

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: I think it could have worked.

Cons: After installing the card my system either locked up or the card was not recognized. I switched the slot, reseated the card and updated drive .. same effect. I only had the card in the computer for a couple of days before I pulled it out and threw it in a box.

Other Thoughts: My current computer does not have USB 3.0 .. I am hoping that I might be able to use it in the future on another computer to expand the number of USB ports.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally a stable 3.0 card

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: I had the same experience as the reviewer who reported "Syba 1, Me 0.", except my initial board was the Sabrent CP-4PTU USB 3.0 4-Port PCIe card, and I was stupid enough to buy two. Constant dropping of external drives - if they were recognized at all (yes, I disabled USB power management). The Sunix card works perfect from the get-go. Used the driver that came with the card (did not let Windows install anything else). SATA power connection is solid

Cons: None. What a relief.

Other Thoughts: A shame some other cards can be so problematic. I wasted a lot of time with them. Renesas chip makes the difference in better performance, but more important, in fewer (actually NO) headaches. Remarkably few components on the board (another benefit of Renesas system-on-a-chip)

4 out of 5 eggsWorked out of the box with Dell and Windows 7

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: A lot of these cards don't work and when a client ask me for one I just cringed at the time it would take to cycle through cheap cards. Read another IT guy took a chance on this one and it was a winner for him. I agree. Just make sure you have an extra 15 pin sata power extension lying around just in case.

Cons: This card requires a 15 pin sata power connection so if your powersupply can't reach it than you're gonna be off to Fry's. Order a 15 pin SATA power extension cable just to be on the safe side. They could have included one in the box. PCI slotted devices are rare that require this to chances are you power supply cables won't reach in a stock Dell or HP desktop.

Other Thoughts: Its better than the rest of them at newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsLook no further, buy this one! Renesas chip!

This review is from: SUNIX USB3.0 4-port PCI Express Host Controller with SATA Power Connector Model USB4300NS

Pros: It actually works, the first time!
Renesas chip.
SATA power connector is firmly attached.
Quality build.
Two year warranty.

Cons: None so far, but I will update this review if that changes.

Other Thoughts: I purchased a VIA based Syba card first. I read the reviews, they were bad, but I bought it anyway thinking I could make it work. I was wrong. Round one: Syba 1, Me 0.

I found this one on Newegg and it had no reviews. So I looked up SUNIX and read about the product on their page. I was impressed enough by the apparent quality that I went ahead and ordered one. I picked it up today, opened the case and plugged it in where the Syba was. Powered up and Windows 8.1 detected it and everything plugged into it the first time, didn't even need the included CD. That's how it's supposed to work!

Final score: SUNIX 1, Me 1
