Pros: Easy to setup in Ubuntu 14.04.2.

Cons: Not an issue for me, but be aware -THERE IS NO AUDIO INPUTS on this card.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to put into an older PC (AMD Phenom X4 955 CPU, 8GB RAM and some fairly cheap discrete AMD GPU [I can't remember the model]). My use case is hooking up a VCR and digitizing old home movies for my parents. The VCR is using RCA outputs. I am using an RCA-to-3.5mm cable to get audio to my mic port on my motherboard for audio input.

I do not believe the card itself is capable of encoding the video. That said, using VLC to record/encode into MP4 the is working great (I beleive software encoded), but YMMV. The source video is 1980's home VHS recordings, so I do not require anything close to HD

Cons: No Windows 7 support. The way it is described seems like it is skirting around the fact. Mainly, this is an old product. It was a waste of my time and money. I was so eager to stream that I missed this info, and the fact that there are much cheaper capture devices that are way more compatible as well.

Other Thoughts: I use this with a linux program called motion, on a 1ghz 512mb box (low cpu usage 9%). I only use 2 of the inputs and they work great. Remember that it only shows up as one device /dev/video# and has 4 inputs on that dev. To check use a program called xawtv and change the source to figure out the correct input. I attached a video of motion in action with this card.

Pros: Works very well with Linux and Zoneminder. Easy to install, includes a low profile bracket.

Cons: In linux, the bottom most plug does not appear to work. I am sure there is a work around, but I don't think it really matters because:
When using 1 input, you get 30 FPS. When using 2 inputs, you get 2.5 FPS. When using 3 inputs, it drops to 0.7 FPS. 2.5 is acceptable for my usage. Just remember that the card is sharing one analog-to-digital converter over 4 ports. The more cameras hooked up, the more the card has to work at switching, syncing, and setting them up with your software.

Other Thoughts: This card does not and will not import audio. This seems to be built for budget CCTV systems and does that task quite well.
(I have not tried the card in Windows or OS X)

Pros: Works like a charm in Linux. Drivers for the chipset are already installed in the latest kernels. Works great with ZoneMinder, making it an affordable DVR input card. Its a low profile card, and comes with a low profile bracket.
(I've not tested this card in Windows.)

Cons: In Linux, one of the inputs does not work (bottom most port). I'm not sure why, or how to fix it, but I read this limitation going in (possibly due to the S-Video port using TWO inputs instead of just one).
Only one Analog to Digital converter chipset instead of one chipset per port. This means that if you will record between the different inputs at the same time, your max FPS recording from one input will be decreased. (Think, sharing 30fps between 4 ports). Look up the word Multiplexing when it comes to CCTV to get some idea as to how this works. Again, I knew this going in. You don't need to record at 30FPS to get a good quality image of a subject... just a good quality camera and an uncompressed image file as the output.

Other Thoughts: Big Note Here: THIS CARD DOES NOT RECORD AUDIO. If you are looking to record your VHS or other analog source to DVD or into the computer, look else where (like at the Canopus 110) as this will sorely disappoint you (see poor reviews) However, if you are looking for a cheap CCTV DVR input card, this is DEFINTIELY what you want to get! There are better quality cards out there, but for the price, this works very well. You can easily build a CCTV DVR for under 300 with this card (including software... which is free!)

Pros: Multiple inputs including S-Video. Works good under Linux with V4L.

Cons: Poor windows drivers (not that I care though).

Other Thoughts: People need to understand how this card works before writing reviews. The Conexant Fusion 878a has only one video ADC that has a 5 input multiplexer. It does have a second ADC but its only for the chroma signal of the S-video input.

So to capture video from all four composite inputs you need to have video capture software that sets the frame rate of the card to 120 FPS. Special software tells the driver to cycle through the inputs to grab a frame from each input. It is very CPU intense to preform this operation and you need software that does this. Most security software operates the card in this manner. Since the chips primary design is for TV tuners the default Windows software only allows one input at a time.

I use mine with a V4L Linux frame grabber that watches three analog cameras. I wrote a simple script that grabs frames from each input and writes it as a jpg file which is then displayed on a web page. Very simple setup but works great.
