1 out of 5 eggsNot what I expected

Pros: If you want a HVR-1265, it might work for you

Cons: This is advertised as a HVR-1250 card which works with all modern linux kernels. Unfortunately, the card is actually a HVR-1265 card which is not supported. The box itself labels the card as HVR-1250 but it is not until you see the chipset on the card that you would realize it is actually the 1265. Do not buy this if you want it to work on a linux HTPC.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome upgrade for HTPC

Pros: I bought this specifically for recording sports games for when I'm at work or school. Got it on sale for $64.99. Installation was super easy, just make sure you have an open PCIe x1 port and push it in. Windows 7 recognized the new hardware when I rebooted but did not automatically install drivers. Just had to go to the Hauppauge website and manually install the drivers. Windows Media Center recognized this and configured everything for me. Picture quality is just as good as my TV's tuner. Uses very little CPU power on an i3 2120.

Cons: Included software picked up a few more channels and located them quicker than WMC but is totally unstable and crashes constantly. Don't bother with it.

Other Thoughts: Great for adding DVR features to my basic cable. I can pause, rewind, and record. Should work absolutely fine with analog/digital cable, antennas and set top boxes. Hardware wise I give this 5 stars but WinTV7 is completely pathetic so I had to drop a star.

3 out of 5 eggsIn 10 years, Tuner Cards Hav Not Evolved Much

Pros: It works... but not well with the included software.

Cons: Where to start?
First off as usual, Canadians are not well supported in anything build/sold in the USA. The software does not include any ATSC channel listings for Canada, The software is full of bugs, freezes or "No Signal" displayed when it slowly changes channels. Solution= reinstall software.
Considering I have it installed in a pretty sweet core i7 rig with 11tb storage, a samsung 256 SSD, 16gb ram and a gtx660ti and it performs with lag, I wish I had researched other options.
The remote control included does not even support the (-)
between ATSC channels IE: channel 3-1 or 3.1 (there is no dash button)

Other Thoughts: After installing cracks from the internet, I got WMC to work with it but not without issues. The first time installing this crack, I got nothing but loud cracking sound through my speakers which was there at low or high level of volume and was like the volume was at full no matter the volume knob position.
The sound is run from optical out of computer, into a Marantz PM6005 amp and out to Klipsch speakers and sub.
This is no beginner rig.

5 out of 5 eggsthis product works great

Pros: work great with or with out cable tuner box. this works fantastic with out a tuner box it has a clear qam tuner. if your cable channels are not encrypted you can use this just plug it right in it will recognize all your channels. if you are like me and your cable company does not do clear qam you can still use the cable tuner box.

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: I have had products from Hauppauge before they work wonders you can record and pause live tv a great product

4 out of 5 eggsSimilar product

Pros: I own a similar product the wintv hvr-1850.
Everything is working fine except for the wintv software that freezes sometimes.

Cons: when you live in Canada it's hard to configure windows media center to use with this type of tv tuner.

2 out of 5 eggs  old stuff

Pros: Works pretty good.

Cons: Doesn't receive encrypted channels.

Other Thoughts: Encrypted channels are here to stay. I recommend the "Silicon Dust" tuners. Not only can you insert a "M-card for encrypted channels, it works on everything that you have hooked up on your LAN. Including smart TV's.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Single Tuner TV card.

Pros: This card performs Pretty well. The Tuner is Capable of HD over the air tuning, not just the old format it also picks up pretty much every channel available from your local cable company, but most of them are "ENCRYPTED" as is to be expected otherwise people would just but these cards instead and never buy cable :D

The Quality Is EXCELLENT when you are viewing the HD channels in your area. The standard def tv signals are exactly that. Standard def.

The Remote works EXCELLENTLY. (very Good build quality( **batteries included)

Can Confirm Complete Compatability with Windows Media Center on WIN 7 64 Bit (if your drivers install) (I had to find others?)

Cons: Software install was a little buggy none of the drivers I installed actually said they "succeeded" they just either froze during install or said "No compatible hardware detected" However after a few tries and downloads from the Hauppauge website the card just "worked" (meaning the drivers must have installed and just hung before completion)

That's my only gripe reason for 4 stars

Besides that the initial channel scan takes like 1 HOUR I assume its due to the new standards for television they put in place but this is MUCH slower than the old format tv cards took to scan for channels. Tuning also is slower than I remember from older cards. However the picture quality and integration is all better and an improvement.

Other Thoughts: It will do the trick complete remote operation (push power button on remote and tv takes over computer) makes for easy use and very convenient breaks if you work on your pc. Overall its a nice addition to my everyday work machine.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does exactly what I expected, TV on the PC.

Cons: Hauppage's TV viewing software is pretty weak compared to windows media center, but then if you use that, it becomes a pain to get the remote to work with WMC. But these are just minor inconveniences.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't get a TV Tuner

Pros: Works exactly as described. Software is fairly easy to use and install.

Cons: Can't do anything at all if your local provider has blocked all of the channels, ie. Comcast.

Other Thoughts: If you already pay for basic cable and want to record all of your shows, this will work great for you. Otherwise, just find a way to stream your shows online.

1 out of 5 eggsMiserable piece of hardware

Pros: An unwelcome excuse to upgrade my hardware.

Cons: A great way to instantly short out your motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1250 model #1196. Installed this internal PCIe tv tuner card on two separate 1K machines. Upon next boot after install I had no video output to the monitor, yet Windows still booted fine judging from the HDD light activity and Windows sounds like the "found new hardware" chime still ringing. Everything appears to work except no video output. Promptly removed the tv tuner card and restarted. No video output. One machine has integrated graphics with a video card, the other has no integrated graphics with a video card. I can't even directkey boot into BIOS. Both machines showing same symtoms that appeared immediately after install. No BIOS or POST visible on screen. Removed discrete video card from machine with integrated graphics and booted from the Intel iGPU. This seems to have worked, because display has returned. I plugged the discrete card back in and booted again from that, and the GPU was once again showing video output. However the GPU now refuses to send wake requests to the monitor after going to sleep, and I've already experienced system lock-ups within minutes of booting. You know the ones where the cursor just freezes. I unpluged everything, and again took the GPU out and plugged the monitor back into the onboard graphics VGA. Plugged it all back in and restarted, and within 5 minutes of Windows running it crashed again. No blue screen, just in a state of suspension. it's not strictly related to my graphics cards, both of which are nVidia 600 series, but that's not any reason to be happy. Now I fear the same instabilities in the other machine as well. Overall I cannot comment on how the TV tuner works because clearly it hasn't shown itself to be reliable, and my trust had run out so I was unable to test it further. Help on this issue is disconcerting, as most of the answers seem to be limited to CPU, PSU, or motherboard failure.

If you value your computer you won't even risk getting this poor excuse for engineering near it.
