Hauppauge thinks outside the box with their WinTV-HVR-850. This external TV tuner connects to your computer with a USB 2.0 connection so you don't have to open your case to get TV on your PC. The hybrid tuner can handle NTSC analog signals along with ATSC digital signals up to 1080i.
Since the tuner has been condensed to the size of a USB thumb drive it's easy to take with you on the road. A portable antenna is included for use on the go. Just slip it into your carry case and enjoy the show from wherever you are.

Pros: Easy to setup and work with alongside the WinTV software, decent enough quality for regular channels and of course easy installation due to it being USB.
Cons: WinTV software really sucks, its kind of difficult to describe how horrible that software is. Its easy to use, but excessively limited, and no 3rd party software I have tried detects or is capable of using the 850. So I have no way of seeing this devices true capabilities, screenshots of MCE use look great and it boasts true HD with the 850, but im still waiting for my remote before I can see that.
Other Thoughts: WinTV really sucks super bad, I like the device (its cheap for HD) cause its easy to setup but that software kills it. I have done a weeks worth of solid research on 3rd party programs and how to set them up, I think the Media Center is the best option for now, so if you buy this make sure you can use Media Center with Windows (which requires you to have a IR remote installed for Media Center... grumble).

Pros: Had this tuner for more than a year, worked with a low end laptop, and a med-low end HTPC. On VistaHP x86 AND Win7-RCx64. Channels look great!
Cons: Included software is very buggy. I just use media center, works great!.
Other Thoughts: To the reviewer who says it gets "HOT", the device gets warm, BUT 91f is not "HOT" by computer component standards. You also DO NOT need a high end computer to use, basic dual core with 2+gb ram will run you great.
Vista laptop- QL-60 X2, 2GB DDR2-800- ran great! HTPC- BE-2300 X2, 2GB DDR2-800, Win7- currently running great

Other Thoughts: All the others complaining about non-HD with cable or slow and choppiness have no basic understanding of audio/video technology. This device works as it should and it does one hell of a great job doing it! For only $50 you get HD broadcast TV with a fantastic picture and sound! Record and watch your favorite programs, pause live TV.. all for $50!? WOW

Pros: Includes low profile bracket.
Cons: Difficult to install with low profile bracket. The top coax connector is too high. Runs a tad hot.

Pros: Great picture quality, easy to use.
Cons: High CPU usage, but to be expected.
