Turn your PC into an HDTV with the Hauppauge 1199 TV tuner card. This PCI card has two tuners: NTSC and ATSC/QAM for both analog and digital TV program. The NTSC tuner is a 125 channel cable ready tuner for your entire standard over the air broadcasts or regular cable TV. The ATSC/clear QAM tuner supports all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i. You can watch the programming live or record it to disk as an MPEG-2 program stream.

There is also an s-video input with audio inputs so you can attach a VCR to copy your old tapes onto DVD. An s-video to composite adapter makes it possible to use a wider range of machines with the card.

The included Hauppauge WinTV2000 application lets you toggle between tuners so it is easy to watch what you want. Or, Windows Media Center will let you use the card as one of its tuners for seamless integration. The bundled remote let you deliver easy control of the card and application.

1 out of 5 eggswas not impressed

Pros: it's easy to set up and i like the fact that it's on military time it makes it easier to not mess up the time.

Cons: when watching tv off it it was blurry even the recordings were supposed to be in 1080 hd it was not and still blurry. when trying to capture game play using the s-video theirs about a 3 sec delay.

Other Thoughts: i don't know if it was just the one i got but is was bad. i would not suggest this to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Tv on your pc lol . Works as a DVR I had to buy an extra harddrive to hold all the stuff I record

Cons: I do wish I could record and watch another program at the same time but hey its still awesome.

Other Thoughts: The picture you get is as good as the signal it gets .. so if you have a lousy cable connectiong which I did at one time the pic will be lousy but if you have the HD thing going on it will look great.

4 out of 5 eggsGood PCI Tuner for Linux

Pros: * Linux officially support all features of this card.
* Easy get it works on most systems.
* Works with Canadian and U.S. TV channels.
* Analog and digital inputs can be used at the same time.

Cons: * All analog inputs are treated as one.
* You can not pass analog and digital signals on the same coaxial input.
* Only supports the clear variant of the QAM.

Other Thoughts: This card is also sold with a Windows Media Center Certified remote control. See model #1388.

3 out of 5 eggslinux: works mostly

Pros: I am using this card with gentoo linux and mythtv. Basically, I have gotten all the functions to work under linux (analog and digital inputs, remote, IR blaster), but it was not easy. Some things like measure of signal strength don't work.

Cons: The card running under linux is not very reliable. Sometimes the analog input doesn't pick up a signal, or only receives a blank green or red screen. The only solution is remove the driver module and reinsert or reboot the system. I haven't tried it in Windows to know if this is a problem with the card or the linux drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a champ!

Pros: I already owned a PCI-E x1 HVR-1250 and have been using it for probably more than a year now recording thousands of hours of OTA HDTV using Win 7 x64 Media Center. I started to get bummed out that some of the shows I was recording were conflicting with each other and I had to choose which one I wanted to have the priority. I only have one PCI-E x1 slot on this board so figured I had two choices; buy a PCI or USB tuner as a second unit, or sell my 1250 and get a dual tuner card. I found this one used for about half price.

Cons: Installed it in this order: installed the card on the motherboard, booted, windows said it didn't install the software correctly, inserted the CD and chose Install Drivers, it told me I had to reboot so I did, then loaded Media Center and re-ran the TV setup because I noticed it was still only running off one card--it recognized the second card after that.

Other Thoughts: I checked my DTV signal strength with each card individually and they each received the signal equally well with the exception of one channel that gives me fits on occasion - on it is a violet/VHF channel that is a completely different compass direction than the majority of my channels. That channel showed up with yellow bars on each pass, whereas the 1250 brought it in with green bars with the occasional zero signal pass, followed by green again. It picks up my other violet/VHF channel just fine so it's not a limitation of the card. I have a rooftop antenna because the signals are 35 miles away, and the computer is about 30 feet from the antenna. I was concerned about signal loss splitting it to the two cards, but that hasn't been an issue at all. I split the signal from the wall and ran 3-foot cables to each of the cards off the splitter, no signal booster.

5 out of 5 eggsGood tuner

Pros: Installs as easily as any other tuner card. WMC recognized installed it fine. I use it with NPVR (free). Yes, it is Analog and QAM only. But the dopes that knock it for that shouldn't have bought it. There are a lot of people that are ignorant giving this card a bad name. There are 2 alternatives to this type of card and they are all expensive.

Cons: Nothing significant

Other Thoughts: Understand the card - you can use it with an open cable and/or a SD STB. Or for OTS ATSC too.

4 out of 5 eggsmythtv

Pros: works great in my mythtv media center. gives good picture quality and has 2 inputs which is nice for recording shows.

Cons: the main problem i have with it is a problem with the driver that it uses has a few problems loading once in a while. so to fix it if you have the problem like i do i jsut rmmod the drive and modprobe the drive again to make it work. its a pain but it works.

Other Thoughts: other than the one problem with the driver not load it is a great tunner to have. about to get a second one so i can record even more shows at once in my media center

1 out of 5 eggsCard failing after 3 months

Pros: works only sometimes

Cons: works only sometimes. most of the time says tuner not found, or channels freeze up, or shows only a green screen. tried it in two different computers and it does the same thing in both

Other Thoughts: too late to RMA through Newegg and will try to rma through Hauppauge
