4 out of 5 eggsGood for the money

Pros: Works well with WMC7 32bit, came with low-profile bracket to fit my HTPC, driver loaded without any problem

Cons: PCTV software SUCKS! Use WMC. Throw the remote in the trash and get a remote that works with WMC

Other Thoughts: Darn shame they discontinued this product. Works very very well on my old P4 3.2ghz HTPC running Win7 32bit and WMC.

5 out of 5 eggsLinux update

Pros: All functions work perfectly in Linux, BUT the chipset has changed and current kernels (3.3.8-1.fc16.x86_64 for me right now) require tweaking to get the digital tv functions working.

Analog tv and the infrared remote control receiver are fully supported by v4l2 and lirc, respectively.

The Lirc project has a lirc.conf posted on line to configure the remote control.

It comes with mounting hardware so that it can be used in either a full size or half height case.

PCI is old school, but it Just Works.

Cons: It looks as though it may be discontinued by Newegg.

The cable connection is just soldered to the board. In my case one of the joints was bad. Be careful.

Other Thoughts: This card in one form or another seems to have been around for a while: As a Pinnacle PCTV 800i (search for its LinuxTV page) and also under the PCTV brand, which is the brand on the box. Fairly recently the digital demodulator chip was changed from Samsung 5H1409 to 5H1411. The Vendor:Product id is still [11bd:0051]. To tell which chip is on your card, you have to look at the chips and see which number is on the only Samsung chip on the card.

If you have a 5H1409 demodulator, then your card is supported already. If you have a 5H1411 card, the kernel should support it soon. In the meantime, there is a thread on Fedora Forum that ends with instructions about getting it going. Search for "pctv 800i cx88-dvb". cx88-dvb is the kernel module that needs tweaking.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat DTV Tuner for Mythtv

Pros: Like a PCI version of the excellent HVR-950Q USB stick!
Has the excellent 6th gen XC5000 silicon tuner onboard.
Pulls in distant/weak stations even in the presence of strong/adjacent locals.
Works flawless with Linux/Mythtv.

Cons: No hardware encoder for analog, like anyone cares anymore. :)

Other Thoughts: Planning to get another one once analog OTA vanishes (Aug.31/2011 in Canada).

1 out of 5 eggsdidn't work

Pros: none

Cons: Doesn't work

and the fm channels dont come in

The software has no options and the controls are difficult to work.

The remote is about the size of those snikers bars you get at halloween.

Other Thoughts: Sorry I bought it going to return it.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK!

Pros: Newegg refunded me and paid postage!

Cons: I couldn't get it to work at all. Tried everything! I was using WinXP, I did get a short blip of signal but went away as fast as I got it. No sound either.

Other Thoughts: STAY AWAY!!

1 out of 5 eggsNot for me!

Pros: Card looks nice, and so does the box.

Cons: Couldn't get this card to work at all! Was hoping to use it in my XP system which meets and exceeds the specs for the card, but no luck. I was planning on using this card with "Adobe Flash Encoder 3.5" but another issue I had was that the audio wouldn't work. I could sometimes get the video to work but 99% of the time I would get an error saying "Card in use" or it would just not work. Sad, because it's a nice card. NewEgg ROCKED! Got me a full refund, including shipping!!

Other Thoughts: I bet it would work in a Windows 7 "Media Center" system? I prefer having a PCI-Express card, but if your system doesn't support PCI-Express this may work for you?

4 out of 5 eggsTake reviews with grain of salt

Pros: See Other Thoughts

Cons: See Other Thoughts

Other Thoughts: People, please beware that not all people reviewing here know how to give correct information. I.e., Compunut doesn't know the difference between analog & digital, makes negative comments on features not part of product & doesn't even use. And Reverendchip negatively comments that the specs are incorrectly advertised. A Sempron does not meet the specs advertised and therefore is getting exactly what it can't handle.

Unfortunately people, you have to be very careful reading reviews to make your decisions. If you have a REPUTABLE PC Tech, ask them before making decisions based on these reviews.

1 out of 5 eggstrash

Pros: The box looks good

Cons: It doesn't work. Tried it in 2 2.8ghz p4s and one 3ghz p4 the 2.8 scanned but didn't get anything and I know we have good single even composite didn't work. On the 3ghz the computer froze when I scanned for channels.

Other Thoughts: I am hopeing I just got a dead one because if they are all like this they are pure trash.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy

Pros: Worked without hassle for my MythTV box (Kernel 2.6.35, Mythbuntu 10.10)

Cons: Runs hot enough that I decided to re-arrange my daughter cards so this was at the top nearest a case exhaust fan.

3 out of 5 eggsIn Response to "Compunut".. wrong info

Pros: NTSC is analogue, ATSC is digital.

Cons: If you don't know what you are talking about, please don't make it up, it hurts and confuses other consumers.
