Watch and record ATSC high definition digital TV or analog cable TV on your PC, in a window or full screen! ATSC HD is the over-the-air high definition TV standard for North America.

Watch and record 'clear QAM' digital TV channels. Clear QAM digital TV channels are TV channels which are broadcast "in the clear" on your cable TV network.

Two tuners on board: a 125 channel cable ready TV tuner and an ATSC/QAM digital TV tuner.

The WinTV-HVR-1850 board adds on-board Media Center and WinTV remote control receiver/blaster. Now you can get IR receive and blast for both Media Center and the WinTV v7 application, without needing an external "beanbag". (The IR receiver/blaster is not included)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Prompt delivery, Easy to follow instructions, updates easily found and downloaded, works fine with WinTV and Microsoft Media Center. Recommend without qualifications.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Better than subscribing to cable or satellite. Hope it continues.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good for a TV Tuner

Pros: It had all of the ports I would need. It works very well with windows media center.

Cons: 4 stars instead of 5 because its kind of blurry but still less blurry than most others.

Other Thoughts: I did not know this, but to use the component port, you basically need the $10 software (hard to do it without it). I wish I knew that before I got just the card and not the bundle.

I do not have too much experience with many TV Tuner cards so I dont actually know if I recommend this

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Worked well on Channel 2 for the first couple of days

Cons: Windows Media Center finds 94 channels with this card. After eliminating all of the channels with less than 4 green bars, I had about 15 channels that in theory were watchable. 3-5 would work, depending on how long the PC had been powered up. Also found 18 radio stations, these would work for 5-10 minutes at a time. My MP3 player, with it's antenna being the headphone cable, consistently can play each of these stations without issue. the software instructions claimed that the card and remote could be used without their TV7 app, just by installing the drivers and then running a utility - the utility was not included on the install CD(as claimed by the MFG), nor is it included in the updated software that I downloaded from the MFGs website.

Other Thoughts: This product suffers from a couple of tragic flaws - 1). The circuit board is amazingly thin, in fact too thin to allow it to make consistent contact in the slot. Without a screw holding the card in, I could turn the case on it's side and the card would fall out.
2). No decent shielding of the circuit board - the board should have additional layers added to it, to allow for copper layers to be incorporated to provide some shielding.

Extra bonus - uninstalling the software also uninstalled all of the additional visualizations I had added to WMC.

Giving it One Egg since I can not give it less.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy installation. Windows Media Center instantly recognizes the card (at least the analog cable part) and has no trouble recognizing and setting up analog cable channels.

It is compatible with analog service from Cox Cable in New Orleans, but not Digital (explained below).

Cons: Windows Media Center does not recognize the composite or S-Video Inputs. You have to use the WinTV software to use these inputs.

Game mode is completely and utterly useless, it disables the whole card. Do not use this card if you plan to hook it up to a game console. This was the biggest let-down for me. I honestly believe Happauge could do better with this if they wanted.

This card is not compatible with Cox Digital Cable in New Orleans, and is probably not compatible with Cox Digital Cable anywhere in the US. The Cox customer service dept can tell you all about their monopoly, forcing you to use one of their cards. This incompatibility is not the fault of Happauge, since Cox deliberately choses to make their Digtal cable incompatible with other cards.

Other Thoughts: Due to my provider's incompatiblity with digital cable, I'm unable to make use of the dual tuner to watch one channel while recording another.

If my local provider was compatible, I'd need to use a two way cable splitter, and have access to both analog and digital service to make use of the dual tuner option. Even then, I would be stuck with one digital and one analog channel. This is not good if you want to watch and record two different digital channels.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: TV Tuner, Video Capture, Several Inputs, Radio

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Unit is used to capture video for our church. Installed card, installed driver, works great. I would advise reading the instruction it explains everything. I have the 1850 version running with Windows7 x64 everything works even radio. there was a user a few posts back who gave it a really bad rating. Reading the instruction would have helped him.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: I am only using this peripheral for capturing and not tuning but it is working perfectly with Windows Media Center for Win7.

Cons: It seems that the WinTV software is not included in this distribution. I was disappointed that the dedicated software was expected to be purchased separately. Only 4 eggs because it is silly not to include the software.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Tuner

Pros: Great analog quality
QAM works well
Doesn't emit a nuclear grade of heat into the case

Cons: Installing in Windows Media Center was a hassle
FM radio doesn't work in Windows Media Center

Other Thoughts: I bought this tuner to replace my HVR-1600. It was one of the earlier revisions of the card that didn't have Clear QAM.

All in all, this is a fine tuner for an HTPC. It has a nice picture with a composite signal and it found each of my digital channels as well.

My main issue is that the default drivers from Microsoft were the only ones that let me use this along side of my other HVR-1600. Using the official drivers only let me configure one set-top box. It also failed to find the FM tuner, but I can get radio channels on my cable box, so no big deal.

This is my sixth Hauppauge tuner, having owned 2 PVR-150s, 2 HVR-1600s and 1 HVR-850, so this card does live up to the Hauppauge quality I've seen in the other tuner cards.
