Features
MediaMVP-HD is installed at your TV set and plays digital media (digital music, digital videos and digital pictures) from your PC or a USB thumb drive onto the TV set.

When the digital content is on the PC, MediaMVP-HD connects to your PC over your home Ethernet (wired) network. You can also put digital media on a USB thumb drive, plug the USB thumb drive into the MediaMVP-HD and then play the content onto your HD TV set.

MediaMVP-HD plays digital audio (MP3 music), high definition digital video (MPEG-2 as recorded by the WinTV-PVR or WinTV-HVR series of Hauppauge TV tuners, plus H.264 as recorded by the Hauppauge HD PVR and DivX) and digital pictures (JPEG, PNG, BMP and GIF).

Technically speaking
- MediaMVP-HD’s CPU engine (a Sigma 8655 processor) runs the Linux operating system, and has built-in multimedia hardware for decoding high definition MPEG-2 and H.264 videos, digital audio and digital pictures. The MediaMVP-HD application can be reloaded through it’s Setup menu.

- MediaMVP-HD contains a built-in uPnP client, where the server can be a uPnP server such as Windows Media Playe from a Windows 7 PC. Some Windows XPs have third party uPnP servers installed and can be used to connect to the MediaMVP-HD. The PC can be used for normal tasks while acting as the uPnP media server.

- MediaMVP-HD decodes full HD resolution NTSC and PAL encoded MPEG-2 or H.264 bit streams in real time, up to and including 1080p. Video formats supported include MPG, MPEG, MP4, M2TS, AVI, VOB and TS.

1 out of 5 eggsGood Money after BAD!

Pros: MY first unit worked...

Cons: ...for 31 days before it cooked itself. Perhaps Hauppauge should have marketed it as a network capable hot plate. The replacement unit, so graciously provided by Newegg 1 day after the return limit never worked. It did, like the rest, provide a soothing green light, and a mishmash of frozen graphics on the top half of the TV. I have put off even RMAing the unit because i have lost all faith i will receive anything for the 119 dollars i paid for this in 2010...it is packed up in it's little box, even the plastic is taped shut. Like it has for a year almost 2 years. It truly is not worth sending anywhere but a trash can. And the money is lost like a sock in the dryer.

Other Thoughts: I did communicate with a nice man at happauge, but since he could not assure me i would receive a working media player, I couldn't bring myself to spend the 40 further dollars to ship it off to the states for replacement. This player sits formost as my greatest failure as a consumer, and as hauppauges worst product EVER!

1 out of 5 eggstwo duds: not worth my time

Pros: none

Cons: this is a replacement for the first defective unit I received. that one at least would start to boot before it would hang at the splash screen. it resisted every effort to update the firmware per the mfgr's instructions. the second unit was basically a plastic brick with a green power LED (and about as useful). I'm also a bit miffed that I have to pay s&h to return a defective item. at least I'm rid of the thing.

Other Thoughts: Hauppauge used to be synonomous with quality and innovation. seems they really dropped the ball with this one.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother DOA

Pros: none yet: the one egg is for Newegg's customer service, b/c there's no way to give zero eggs. :-(

Cons: I too received a unit that is DOA: in my case, it's stuck on the "Hauppauge" splash screen. I followed the beta-fix instructions on the mfgr web page, but the unit won't recognize the USB drives I prepped w/ the update files, so it goes back. I just hope its replacement will take the update since I'm guessing it'll likely be non-functional as well, judging by the reviews here. I'm quite disappointed, as I have a number of Hauppauge devices and have - so far - been very pleased with their quality. I'm hoping this product's dud-ness is an isolated incident and that Hauppauge will bring things back up to par soon!

Other Thoughts: NewEgg's customer service is second to none: had a glitch getting a replacement RMA but a chatline CSR got me hooked up with a RMA and a return-by-UPS label.

1 out of 5 eggsDevice is flaky.

Pros: Small form factor. Infact its so small my first thought was - well this is going to be a P O S.

Cons: This box has successfully played ZERO full length videos. I load a video, watch about 5-10 mins, only to be greeted by a "NO VIDEO DETECTED" screen from my TV. the MVP support page states "Changing inputs on your TV ( ie, from HDMI1 to HDMI2) while the box is stream can cause it to crash. Also does not integrate with Windows Media Center. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version, which improved the time before the box locks up, however it still eventually crashes. Im not entirely sure if its a heat issue, as the box does get EXTREMELY warm during a network stream of a video, Its sitting on its own, in a well ventilated area, and yet still gets extremely warm. I have yet to try a USB connection for video, however I would need to buy an external drive to achieve this, thus spending more money on a solution which at best, doesnt work. Will be returning.

Other Thoughts: Hauppauge - at least from my research - has always provided medium to high quality products for TV > PC. This is i believe the first PC > TV product that they have sold, and I would not be surprised if it was not developed by them. Very disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsnot what you think it is

Pros: I was able to play media files over my network

Cons: The BeyondTV FAQ's for the MediaMVP do not apply to the MediaMVP-HD. This means the skins developed for the older product do not work with this one. As a media player does not compare to the Seagate Home Theater Plus.

Other Thoughts: I purchased for use with Hauppauge tuners and BeyondTV software. This media box, despite the controls on the remote, will not let you see a guide, record, or erase. It is pretty much useless as a PVR system from your remote TV. It's sole function is playback over the network.

1 out of 5 eggsUser Beware - Product DOES NOT Work!

Pros: None as it does NOT work out of the box!

Cons: When I turn on the MediaMVP-HD the green light comes on solid until the MediaMVP splash screes shows up on the TV with the Hauppauge! logo. As the splash screen appears the green light begins to blink and the remote is unresponsive to any commands. I've tried it with and without the ENET connection and with a USB thumb drive. I've tried the HDMI, Composite, and Component connections and got the same result. I saw on a web support site to upload the latest drivers but if the remote is unresponsive there is no way to get to the setup screen. Untill there are more reviews of this product I would beware of buying it at this point.

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't be happier

Pros: I wanted a device that could hook up to my TV and play media without a computer intermediary. I hooked up this device to my TV and plugged a 1 TB USB drive into the 1340. It instantly worked perfectly. This product did everything I wanted and more. Quality is great and remote does everything.

Cons: In all honestly...none.
