1 out of 5 eggsWhen it works Great, When it doesn't Watch Out

Pros: - Great Picture Image.
- Easy to edit video, no hassle.
- Great sounding audio
- supports 5.1 audio through HDMI
- When it works it can record hours of footage without issues.
- Options of audio codec & video container you want to use.
- Can stream directly to Twitch or Ustream
- Onboard video encoder, uses less CPU power then other capture cards.

Cons: - Drivers wouldn't even install the first time I tried (Had to reformat my PC twice before drivers installed correctly)
- Horrible Capture software.
- Constant crashing after 20 minutes or recording for unknown reason.
- 5.1 audio only works sometimes.
- When recording 5.1 audio via HDMI device likes to stop from time to time.
- Device can get very hot, be careful

Other Thoughts: I had Game Edition for over three years until it went. I decided to try new version(1512). I had nothing but problems, Which is strange since GE worked flawless.

Supplied Capture software did nothing but crash every 20 minutes(Even with the latest drivers and software).

1 out of 5 eggsNIce idea, again

Pros: Great idea, nice design It appears to have many nicer features than the previous unit, which I owned.

Cons: Software is less than decent and lack of customer supoort from Hauppage, it's difficult to think they can stay in business like this.

Return shipping should be paid due to a nonfunctional unit. It's not the customers fault, Any savings buying thru NewEgg was lost due to this. I wish I purchased locally and could return it easy, fast and free

Other Thoughts: Mine arrived with the optical cable not working, several calls to Hauppauge for support,. After the thrid call they agreeded to send a new optial cable, Welll it's been over a week and it's still not here.

Software si somewhat crude, the WMC interface is nice, or at least it was with the HD PVR 1212, as I couln't get it to work with this unit (due to remote issues with above cable)

I'm sending it back to NewEgg, just sucks I have to pay return shipping on a defective unit.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what I wanted

Pros: Does what is advertised and does it well. The framerate always keeps up and produces high quality video.

Comes with some basic video editing software, but it is very basic.

Cons: The video editing software included is light weight and certainly not good enough to produce high quality finishes with.

Other Thoughts: This is basically just a capture device that will allow you to lay mic-in commentary over and make minor trimming edits to the beginning and end of your videos. If that is all you are looking for then you'll be happy.

1 out of 5 eggsIs the PVR2 Supposed to be an Upgrade?

Pros: Sorta works

Cons: Constant computer crashes. Limited to 2 channel audio. No Linux support. Large file size

Other Thoughts: I got this as an upgrade to a dying 1212 on Mythbuntu. I remember my frustration with getting the 1212 set-up on Linux and was almost looking forward to using Windows for a "Plug and Play" experience. Wow was I wrong. I used XP media center for the installation. After multiple restarts, finally had the device installed and it appeared to be fine. I programed a couple of shows and left it alone. One show recorded and the computer crashed and had an incomplete file for the second show. Rebooted and got everything working annnnnnnnnnd crash after a couple of recordings. I considered sending it back but not sure what to do. Dread having to call Customer support at Hauppauge and have them explain that this is a Windows problem and then get passed to Microsoft to hear that this is a hardware issue. At some point I will bite the bullet and call, but for now, this wins the prize as my worse, tech purchase.

2 out of 5 eggsJust Don't

Pros: 1080p capture

Cons: Unreliable software

Other Thoughts: If you want to use this for anything other than game capture, look elsewhere. There is almost a 4 sec latency between the captured screen and what you see on the screen. This translates to at least 4 seconds to change a channel with the IR blaster. The included Hauppauge Capture and WinTV software were unreliable at showing video or audio. No AC3 passthrough with Capture. Intermittent video only from WinTV. Turning on the STB EPG crashes the programs. The only thing semi-reliable was installing a bit of third party software called mediaportal with an experimental patch. But the latency even with this made this solution unusable, RMA issued. But the $24.00 restocking fee made this a painful exercise after 6h of banging my head against the wall.

5 out of 5 eggsgood little box

Pros: Recordings are great looking and various recording
options are hand. HDMI looks fantastic. No problems
with audio sync. I don't record gameplay, however I
am sure it works fine also.

Cons: The only thing that was a con to me was the ir blaster not working with my TWC DVR. But it still is a great little box.

Other Thoughts: Hauppauge did not do a good job of web help for this device. All searches for help with IR problems sent me
to older non relevlant devices

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: I have made dozens of HD recordings since receiving my unit and it is so simple to do almost anyone could do it. Love being able to get the premium cable channels from my DVR in HD to my computer and compress them to 1280x720. Where was this when I wasted money on a HDPrime cablecard recorder which won't let you get premium HD and edit it. Just an expensive doorstop now. Absolutely love this device.

Cons: Just that it does not allow recording straight to MPG as almost anything can edit an MPG file.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend this to anyone who wants to record HD to a computer from a DVR.

Pros: Allows TV video to be processed by your computer

Cons: Does not allow computer processing of premium cable chanels using the HDMI connection. These channels can only be processed through the standard video connection.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Update from 7-29-review. Still super happy with this device. I have made dozens of recordings and it it so simple to use. Can't wait for football and basketball season to finally be able to get HD files off my DVR to preserve.

Cons: Still only the original con of an unusual TS file format that almost all the software that I have tried will not even recognize the file.

Other Thoughts: Would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in transferring HD files from a DVR.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally!!

Pros: Worked great out of the box. Software installed easily and was very easy to use. Have made over 2 dozen recordings from a DVR to TS file format with only one file having errors in the TS file. File sizes are amazingly small compared to my other 3 Digital recording devices which are all USB sticks. Vey impressed with this device so far. The compressed files @ 720p look fantastic.

Cons: The TS files have some kind of unusual quality, as I have only found one software that will open them for editing. All the rest will not accept the file

Other Thoughts: I am so glad I finally have a way to get files off my DVR. Thanks for a device that works as advertised.
