5 out of 5 eggsSATA Card, Oldie Goodie

Pros: I bought this 7 years ago and it's still going strong. It is powered up every day. I was surprised it is still available.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: I don't use it for RAID, I just need the SATA ports.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great in Linux, software RAID

Pros: Works with SATA-VIA Linux kernel module just fine. Have it set up with RAID-1 at the moment with software RAID (mdadm).

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Software RAID is faster than hardware RAID on almost all but the most expensive RAID cards -- this is because cheaper ones use a much slower clock than the FSB anyhow. That's why the Linux kernel doesn't support (most) hardware RAIDs. Setup a software RAID in Linux and you'll be fine.

People talking about how Linux "drivers" aren't available on the CD obviously have little Linux experience. A quick google and kernel re-compile (if SATA-VIA is not already built in as a module, that is) and you're good to go.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked in my P4B/P4E

Pros: It enabled me to use a faster drive in an older computer.

Cons: Depending on the motherboard, I had trouble adding a second drive to the raid; some problems with boot order and interoperability with IDE drives.

Other Thoughts: Best used with single-drive or with drives that you're not gonna boot from.

Cons: Doesn't work with windows install so It can't pick up your volumes. Don't know how to use it. No support whatsoever

Other Thoughts: If you're on the line, I would recommend spending another couple bucks and get one that has dirvers on the windows installation cd

1 out of 5 eggsSabrent=no support

Pros: Non

Cons: Worse Product Support

Other Thoughts: I have been emailing Sabrent for months now on this product. They still haven’t replied. I’ve been unable to set this card up as non raid. The Driver CD & manual are the worse ever. They also have a Rating of F on the Better business Bureau web site. I finally got a number 626-336-6363 today and I will be calling to see if I get better results. I don't recommend sabrent products due to lack of product support. Read other reviews for sabrent products you will see. I also tried to download BIOS from chip manufacture (Silicon image). The web page says to use Bios (4.x.84) for Non Raid setups. Bios (4.x.84) nowhere to be found.

1 out of 5 eggsPeice of Crud

Pros: Adds external sata slot, two additional inside sata slots.

Cons: Does not work as a raid controller like the other guy said. I'm running ubuntu fiesty.

Other Thoughts: If you buy this card, please beware that it does not function as a raid card. It is a "fake raid". Google it and see what you come up with.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS CARD!!!!

Pros: Pink. Fits into a PCI slot.

Cons: Does not function as RAID 0 or 1 card. May ruin your system and lose data. Will likely cause you to pull your hair out and want to torture Sabrent employees in nefarious ways.

Other Thoughts: This card is crrr-ap. I'm a professional computer consultant, I picked this up for a client who needed to add RAID to a P4 system. The RAID 1 drive I had supposedly created (and started copying my client's data to) seized up and lost all the data. I won't bore you with my troubleshooting steps: in short, it did NOT work with their system. It did NOT work in my system at home (a brand-new dual core). It did NOT work with new drives, new cables. Bought a new card. Guess what? Did NOT work. How is their support, you ask? HA! HAhahahahahahHAhahahHAAA! There is no such thing as support for this card. Please, please, please. I'm begging you: do NOT buy this card.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Vista!

Pros: Plug and play with Windows Vista on an HP a6110n desktop. I used two Maxtor 500-gig SATA-300 (L01F500) drives in RAID-0 mode. Total install time (including installing drives) was about 10 minutes. BIOS setup is quick and simple.

Cons: Only supports SATA-1 (150mbs) mode.

Other Thoughts: I bought despite a few bad reviews regarding the chipset. Took the gamble and I'm happy that I did... for the $$$, it's an excellent choice.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great card. Easy configuration. My drives are configured in RAID 0 and performance is amazing.

Cons: Only problem is medium CPU usage (which means higher temps) during high disk activity.
