5 out of 5 eggsworking as designed...for now

Pros: cheap (sorry, inexpensive)

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: plugged into aging CQ laptop in order to capture streams from Motorola DVR. DVR streams captured, move along.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job

Pros: worked out of the box without issue, inexpensive

Cons: "manual" is a joke but really not required for a plug and play OS

Other Thoughts: installed in old Compaq EVO 610D in order to capture from Motorola STB. Up and running in 30 minutes

5 out of 5 eggsFixed a (somewhat) old laptop

Pros: Gave USB to a (somewhat) old Pavilion laptop from '05.

Cons: None...unless you unplug the USB power cable while you've got a device plugged in. It might freeze your system. Might be a special problem with this laptop, though.

Other Thoughts: You might not get enough current from the ports, plug in the USB power cord into one of the free ports in your system.

Don't buy cheapy "compatible" chargers so they don't blow up and break your USB and ExpressCard ports/slots. Then you won't have to find solutions. I think that's what killed them, anyway.

Laptop: HP Pavilion dv5029US

4 out of 5 eggsCan't complain

Pros: No issues, works as advertised. Very few cards available these days with combo feature, especially at this price. I've been using Newegg for well over 10 years, and it is still the best place for online shopping.

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks Cheap Works Great

Pros: It has 2 USB 2.0 ports and the fire wire port that is what I was looking for. Got here next day that is a + for newegg really. Installation was a breeze! Comes with what I consider to be really good software reminds me of the layout of Garage band a lot. I have not used many video editing programs before so there may be vast differences but for me it was extremely easy to see what i needed to do to get the results i wanted. For the price you can't go wrong! When attached it looks rather nice just the solid black showing throw on some blue led lights (j/k) and it would really look sweet!

Cons: The ports are kinda stiff to work with and feels a lil cheaply made you can see that the plastic is not a completely perpendicular line where it meets the metal part of the card. Not sure if i had to since i just kinda plugged things in and didn't look at directions / check without it but i had to add additional power to the card from a usb in the back of my lappy... idk if its needed but i don't need the port anyways with having the two extra ones i get from the card. The card or the cord seems to be a little touchy at times and can disconnect the device if moved around to much.

Other Thoughts: This is actually part of my first order from newegg ever and wow they did not dissapoint! apart from this pc card i ordered several parts a psu and case for my new pc build. I got everything but the case day after it was ordered! Honestly this lab top is way outdated and I was surprised that this card and the drivers worked that being said i am glad i now have 2.0 usb's this changes a lot of things for my pc as it is now compatible with a lot more things i own. GO NEWEGG been a fan sometime and now I am convinced I will be making all future purposes from here. "Had no money to really blow on pc parts ect. last couple years". Good card.

1 out of 5 eggsNope

Pros: It fit

Cons: Worked for about 5 minutes

Other Thoughts: My laptop came with usb 1.1 so I bought this for the 2.0 usb ports and was glad it came with the firewire.
Maybe my laptop won't work with 2.0?
Needed a external power supply?
Now it's just dead

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

On some older laptop CardBus slot might not provide sufficient power to the card. In this case you can always add an external power adapter to solve this problem. All of our products come with at least 3 years warranty. Please don't hesitate to contact us at support-us@syba.com if you have any problem or question.

Regards,
Syba Customer Service

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Works very well in Mac OS X.2.8, and OS 9. Messes up a little for USB 2.0 sometimes, but I bought it for the Firewire anyways.

Cons: USB isn't 2.0 sometimes when logged into OS X

Other Thoughts: None really. Lets me sync a 3rd gen Ipod with a laptop from 1998 to keep my other computers free.

5 out of 5 eggsworks well

Pros: fairly stable for the 4 years that I've owned it, multiple pc laptop, and a couple mac laptops, too. Used it for external drives, and dv capture.

Cons: Occasionally wasn't recognized by the mac

4 out of 5 eggsWorked for me

Pros: I bought this card primarily for the firewire port to transfer video from my newly purchased JVC mini DV camera. I plugged it into my notebook and it worked just fine without loading drivers or using the accompanying power cable. I don't know what the other complaints are about, but I havent had an issue yet.

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked as expected

Pros: Worked out of the box within seconds. Didn't need to use the auxilliary USB power cord on an IBM Thinkpad T30. When using my USB backup drives I noticed the speed enhancement (compared to USB 1.1) when doing backups - much quicker.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I saw some of the other reviews that made me nervous about this product but bought it anyway. I suspect USB products like this are sensitive to the machine you drop them into. I installed in a IBM Thinkpad T30 and then did a backup to a USB drive of a 40G drive and it worked. Didn't use the 1394 port and probably never will.
