1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I'm writing on a keyboard connected to it right now. Great price for a 5 port pci-e to usb at the time of purchase.

Cons: Well it randomly stalls quite frequently. This results in my mouse not moving or my keyboard not registering a key-up event and so typing a long string of one letter. Just to give you an idea its done that now twice already since I started writing this. Additionally I've not gotten a couple blue screens with an 0x000000FE stop code usually, sometimes mentioning the usb.

I've tried talking with syba support. They directed me to usb drivers on their website. Actually... no they just told me to install drivers for the device, no link or anything. Also you have to find them on sybausa.com because they aren't on syba.com. This seemed weird to me since I'm pretty sure windows has good usb drivers that should be able to run the hardware, and since you know... I was already running the hardware. I said as much in my email but I hunted down these drivers anyways.

Note that they should exists here but don't:
http://it.us.syba.com/support_download/download/73-1000-1.html

Anyways here are the drivers they have for this card:
http://www.sybausa.com/resource/SD-PEX20019/SD-PEX20019_Windows_98SE-Me-2000-XP-Vista-7.zip

Well predictably I find and download these drivers and they will not work on my system because as it states right in the readme included with the drivers:

2. Required Environment
1) Operating System
Windows 98 Second Edition/Windows Millennium
Note: Do not use this driver on Windows. 2000 and Windows. XP, and use Microsoft
driver on these operating systems

These are just 32 bit drivers for support on ancient windows platforms that didn't come with the usb drivers. I have win 7 64 bit so there's no way for me to even install them. After replying again to Syba support about this issue I have yet to receive a response. That was September 24, 19 days ago.

Oh they also said, "If installing the driver from our site does not solve the issue, then there may be some system and card conflicts. There can also be incompatibilities with this card and your peripherals."

I would love for them to elaborate on that. The days of checking compatibility lists on hardware designed to meet the same specs and standards are largely over so its good to know their bringing back the hassles of computing in prior decades. Well I have a feeling they don't honor their warranty much.

Other Thoughts: To be fair I haven't been able to test this on a different system because I don't have another pci-e system. Only multiple OS on my this computer, and a wide range of usb devices. So, it's possible though I think highly unlikely that the card they sent me is not defective. In any case this doesn't excuse the silly runaround from their support.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

SYBAUSA is our new website with much more features available. The old SYBA website is still alive, but soon it will be replaced to have these new features as well. We do apologize for any inconvenience to you.

We are truely sorry if our technical support team did not offer a quick solution to your problem earlier.

Our senior members will now be monitoring all incoming and out-going e-mails. Hopefully we will catch any unqualified replies, and again we apologize.

In your case, see if you have another PCI-e slot you can install the card in? Give it a try.

Have you connected the card with a Molex power input?

If our suggestions do not work the card might be defective. Please contact SYBA customer service for a new replacement at no cost to you.

We are more than happy to provide all of our customers with a prompt exchange whenever a product becomes defective.

SYBA offers an on-line RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

Our technical support team is available to help 9am-5pm M-F. Feel free to contact us during those business hours at support@sybausa.com

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your valuable feedback. We value all positive and negative feedback.

Regards, SYBA CST 10182012

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work on Windows & Intel Motherboard

Pros: It didn't explode or try to stab me.

Cons: I've had this card for about a year. I bought it for my old Windows Vista 64 Machine, and it worked.... kind of.

The thing would register connections only occasionally. Sometimes connecting USB products to it would cause the card to freeze up.

Sometimes it would cause my system to freeze if I connected anything to it. Especially USB 2.0 hard external hard drives.

On Windows 7, I have another problem: It doesn't work at all.

Connecting product to it will cause almost ALL (except for my mouse... if I'm lucky... usually that doesn't work either) USB connected devices on my computer to stop working, even if they aren't connected to the card. Usually, it will cause a system freeze.

I have a standard Intel motherboard.... From INTEL, with the latest drivers. Everything is new. Plenty of power. Brand new memory. The thing is just a piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: Nothing really.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

This card is fully compatible with Windows 7. Since you switched the card into 7 from Vista, you must also install the driver on 7 again. Once you do this, you should be able to enjoy the card yet again. If you have lost the driver CD, you can contact our support team, or search our site for a driver.

Please feel free to contact us if you require further assistance. Our support team will kindly assist you in getting this card working again.

Thank you for purchasing one of our USB 3.0 cards. We value all positive and negative feedback. Our business depends on your satisfaction.

2 out of 5 eggsNot all it says it is...

Pros: PCI Express, Cheap, worked immediatley without drivers or any trouble.

Cons: 5th slot doesnt work when you have something plugged into the internal USB connector (my front panel card reader for example... As others have stated it seems to be a controller and hub so not as high a performance as otherwise (still worth it for the price IMO).

Other Thoughts: Wish the 5th slot and internal would work at the same time...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing our Syba products. We are sorry to hear that the product has stopped functioning as it should be. Please refer to our reviews. We have decent reviews for this product. The 5th USB port and the internal USB header are shared. You can only use one or the other but not both at the same time. I would like to point out that we can also issue RMA returns. We always try to provide the most reliable products to our customers and all products come with at least 3-year warranty. So please don't hesitate to contact us at support@sybausa.com for replacement or question.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat for 60 seconds

Pros: Card installed without a problem, Vista (32-bit) picked it up without any driver disc. Plugged in an external DVD burner, and burned a disc within 5 minutes of installation.

Cons: Burning that first disc was the last thing this card ever did. When Nero entered the disc verification stage, the system locked up. After that, windows wouldn't boot until the card was removed. Reseating did nothing.

Other Thoughts: Card lasted a whole 60 seconds. Obviously defective, so I will post a new review once I get my exchange. WHILE it worked, it worked very well, I'll give it that.

3 out of 5 eggsMac Pro users

Pros: USB

Cons: This is just a note. I have the intension to purchase.

Other Thoughts: To all the Mac Pro users. I suspect you must power this card to get the full use out of it. I bought a card without the molex connection, and it doesn't work with anything but my kb&m. No EyeTV Hybrid, iPhone or USB HDD. I think this one will work, but I'm sure it needs the power connected. You must connect to the hidden 6pin MICRO molex behind the fan. (There are 2). This cable used to be on ATI's website. It was about $30 or so. This should work. I plan on buying this card soon, and I am lucky enough to have found this connector at work, with the pins and wires, and have a working cable that I spliced with a standard 4pin molex power cable. There are instructions online for this as well. (sorry I don't have time to find all the links right now) I will report back. Please do the same.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, has 5 external ports, no software installation needed. Probably plenty fast for most.

Cons: Take with a grain of salt - I am looking for extremely high performance.

This is 1 USB2 controller and a hub, not 5 controllers, which was impossible to figure out from the documentation and specifications (had to buy one and plug it in!). The advertising seemed misleading but not lying (2.5gbps seems impossible to achieve over 1 USB2 hub).

Other Thoughts: Probably fine for most users, but think there are probably better options.

3 out of 5 eggsToo many gotch's

Pros: Quick delivery - quick rma from Newegg - controller supports vista 64 bit. Pricing is very competitive for this type of device.

Cons: did not function - requires external power.

Other Thoughts: card requires external power (not pci-e). Had to purchase a Sata to Molex converter from newegg to attached to a spare sata power cable. card's power adapter is very flimsy - be careful when attaching. Syba's tech support states device should function on my machine (dell intel I7 940, vista 64 bit). All in all, device never was recognized by OS - RMA'ed with no problem from newegg.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Claims to be Mac OS compatible, which it does seem to technically be. They fail to mention that this card needs to be powered with a 4 pin connector. Why ANY USB card would need power other than the PCI bus is beyond me, but the bigger problem is that Mac Pros do not have any easy way to get this card powered, despite the included splitter. This card is essentially useless on a Mac since it doesn't work without the power being hooked up (I tried...unless I got a dud card).

Other Thoughts: Seems like it would be fine for a normal PC, but the advertised MacOS compatibility is misleading, so I dropped to 2 eggs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing our products. This card is self-powered and it requires a 4-pin molex power connector from your power supply. If your Mac only has SATA power connector you can buy a SATA power to 4-pin molex power adapter/cable.

We try to provide the most reliable products to our customer and all our products come with at least 3 years warranty. Please don't hesitate to contact us at support-us@syba.com for replacement or if you have any question.

1 out of 5 eggsCard failure

Pros: Very inexpensive compared to other similiar cards, such as Belkin. Installed easily and was recognized by my HP 64 bit Vista machine. All devices plugged into it were recognized. Poor attachment of the power connecter to the card. Need extra care to plug in power cord.

Cons: After using it for a week, I tried and could not enter bios setup. . Worked alone and with HP tech support for hours, but could not access either set up or boot menu. Even restoring machine to factory condition did not help. I finally removed the SYBA card from the case and
the problem was solved.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if there was a conflict between this card and my computer or the card was defective. Anyway, I am using external powered USB hubs instead.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing our product. Please re-seat the card on the PCI-E slot to make sure that it is securely connected or you can switch to a different slot.

The product you purchase has 3 years warranty. If the card is defective, please don't hesitate to contact us at support-us@syba.com for replacement.
