5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Windows 8

Pros: Quick installation, both brackets provided.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Got 2 of theses for 2 new Win 8 Dell machines that needed to be hooked up to old HP printers. One needed a short bracket, another needed standard. Both units booted up. Needed to click "Find Drivers online" and then the OS not only installed drivers painlessly, but also found and installed the LaserJet 4100 automatically. Very happy.

4 out of 5 eggsDriver install

Pros: I am going to assume it works OK, but to be honest I haven't connected an LPT printer yet.

Cons: I followed the manual driver instructions for WIN 7 64-bit and the install would abort, so I went to sybausacom website for support. I searched for the model# printed on the enclosed manual (PEX1005) and found nothing. I realized the printed number was missing a zero (PEX10005). No help as to the install problem until I tried the "Run as Administator" method which is not mentioned in the manual or the website. Driver installed OK. Just for info, I uninstalled the driver and tried the "Search the internet" method and the driver was found and installed.

Other Thoughts: I guess I should expected this from an English manual produced in a foreign country.

5 out of 5 eggsNeed an LPT port? Get it

Pros: Simple and effective.
Easy install.
Works with Windos 7 64-bit.
Everything you need in the box.

Cons: Doesn't install itself...?

Other Thoughts: What can be said? It does what its designed to do. Yeah, I know its the 21st century and a parallel port should have gone the way of the do-do bird...but one simply does not get rid of an HP 720C ink jet printer that works and works WELL. Got a new box for the Mrs and the onboard motherboard had no parallel port. Not an option... So, looked at sub-to-parallel port cables but some peeps said that wasn't a good choice. Add-in card it is then.
This card fits the bill. Can' go wrong.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked great for a short time

Pros: Small, installed with enclosed drivers with no problem on an XP machine.

Cons: Built a new computer with a Intel motherboard that comes with one parallel port and needed another for a old DOS invoicing program running XP that needed 2 parallel ports. This was used to print invoices. Worked for 2 months then would stop printing to the port until I restarted the computer. I ended up using a old PCI parallel board that I had a that works great. It might be an XP issue.

Other Thoughts: Like I said , this might have been a XP issue and I could have tried to trouble shoot it, but the older PCI board fixed it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked Flawlessly

Pros: Windows 7 x64 downloaded needed drivers from the internet, so I did not need to use the included cd.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I had a client that I setup a new computer for. She had an old Braille Embosser that required a parallel port. I tried a couple of USB to Parallel port adapters without success. This worked on the first try.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with lockout keys

Pros: Has low profile hardware for slim cases.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a friend who runs an auto repair shop. He uses AllData which requires an adapter to be plugged into the LPT-1 Printer port. Had to get a new computer for the shop and got this card. Works perfectly with Windows 7 for a hassle free install.

5 out of 5 eggsFabulous

Pros: I didn't realize pci cards had changed so much. The card worked like a champ, Window 7 recognized the card right away. My mom is now printing to her 20 year old HP 2300 parallel printer just like it was hooked up to a 286.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: It is a descent priced pci-express parallel port card.

Cons: Every once in a while you have to reboot the computer and power cycle the printer. I have seen this a few times on different computers both using this expansion card.

1 out of 5 eggsFor Windows only

Pros: I suppose this would work if you have the correct drivers.

Cons: The only drivers I have found for this product are for kernel 2.4 and 2.6 but I am running a newer kernel. When I contacted their support they replied back with a blanket statement saying that it is Windows only even though it comes with the two Linux drivers I already mentioned.

So with no working drivers for my OS of choice this is a waste of money even as cheep as it is.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Since Linux has so many Kernels, it is hard to provide a specific driver for all kernels. This card includes the 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, but not newer kernels. These particular drivers are for the experienced Linux user who can tweak them to function in other various applications. This is the reason why we do not list Linux as a supported operating system on our website.

We suggest you keep checking our site for any future driver releases.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your feedback. We value all positive and negative feedback.

Feel free to contact us anytime at support@sybausa.com
