5 out of 5 eggs5 stars because it works and it was free!

Pros: - Was a free add-on with the purchase of NewEgg #N82E16817801109 (Tool-less external 2.5" case)

- Installed just fine in my Win7x64 machine. Motherboard is an ASUS P5KPL-CM

- I used the supplied driver CD after installing the card and everything went smoothly.

Cons: - None... based on the fact that even if I had purchased this as a standalone product, I would/should know what I'm getting... A single-port USB3 with a full height bracket. The pictures nor description make any reference of multiple ports nor a half-height bracket for smaller cases, so I certainly didn't expect to get anything other than exactly what was pictured & described.

Other Thoughts: - This is a SYBA product that arrives in an IOCrest branded box.

- Inside the box was a single sheet "user manual" that instructed me to use the Fresco Logic drivers on the included CD.
- On the CD there was a Fresco Logic folder, but it didn't have the specific drivers named on the instruction sheet. There were only three files in the folder. Two .msi files that were clearly labeled as a 32bit and 64bit drivers. The other file was a "release notes" .pdf file. Opening up the PDF confirmed that these were the two expected files.
I ran the 64bit installer and it installed the drivers for the card as expected...no muss, no fuss.

- I went into Device Manager and looked at the new controller. It is listed as "Fresco Logic xHCI (USB3) Controller FL1000 Series". The included drivers were from 2010. I went ahead and clicked on "Update Driver" and "Search automatically..."
It went out and found new drivers. These are from 11/2/2012, version 3.5.93.0

I don't have an available SSD at this very moment to test it's throughput to determine how well the chipset operates, but right now, everything seems good to go. I'm not getting any device disconnects while connected to this card.

Cons: Windows 7. Driver from their CD doesn't work. Tried looking all over the internet, several different drivers found, and tried, but Windows rejected them all. Waste of time and money

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work out so well

Pros: none

Cons: The product I received is not the same as the one pictured, which is rather frustrating. The instructions told me to install the drivers found in the Fresco folder on the little CD that came with it, but there was no Fresco folder. There was, however, about 10 folders and I tried ot use my best logic to see which one I should maybe be using (there was one called IOC and the name on the box is iocrest). But no luck.

I eventually gave up and found the drivers online through the Fresco website, but those didn't help me any either.

Other Thoughts: Use at your own risk. I fully admit I could've just been doing something wrong...even though it's rather straight forward.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear of your recent experience with one of our cards. Our box packaging sometimes may show images of our line of cards, so the card you have may vary from the box image. As for the driver issue, the Fresco Logic is the correct driver for this card. We highly suggest contacting our support team for detailed instructions on how to locate and install the appropriate driver for this card.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your feedback. We value all positive and negative feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked fine for me in XP

Pros: Easy install, works well. About 3 times faster than USB 2.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: As I'd read in another review, I installed the driver first. It was in the location mentioned on the instruction sheet. Then I shut down the computer, installed the card in a PCI-E slot, and booted the computer. The card software/drivers triggered Comodo Firewall quite a bit but once that settled down everything worked fine. Getting about 140 MB/s to an external SATA drive according to my HDTune benchmark.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Affordable way to add USB 3.0 to your system

Cons: Flimsy card doesn't really stay in the PCIe slot very well, be sure to screw it in well.

Other Thoughts: Install the driver software before installing the card. Windows grabbed something off Windows Update that didn't work, even though everything looked good in Device Manager. Uninstalling the card and reinstalling got it to grab the driver off the included CD.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Works as described.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I received this card as part of a Connectland/Syba package with a HDD Dock. It works just fine in my Gigabyte G790FX motherboard. Don't know why it doesn't work in the Asus MB, but thought I should let people know that it is not a bad card. Make sure you use the latest Fresco Logic driver.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Not recognized by Asus board in any PCIe slot. Brand sent wasn't even a SYBA. It had the same model number SY-PEX20041, but was branded I/O Rest. Huh???

Other Thoughts: I installed the card, per the instructions, then manually installed the driver, per the instruction. Card still not recognized upon reboot. Stay away from this piece of junk.
