1 out of 5 eggsFlash - Pop - Dead

Pros: None - I've been buying from Newegg for years and I never thought I would write a negative review.

Cons: What can I say, Installed the card, attched FDD power connector, Booted my PC, Flash-Pop-Dead card. I'm lucky that it did not take my power supply or motherboard with it.

Other Thoughts: The honest truth was my gut feeling said don't put this card in. The box was damaged, the card was not even in an anti-static bag, and you could see fingerprints all over the bracket. I just had a bad feeling about this one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Texjetjockey,

We are sorry to hear of your unique experience with this card. It is quite possible that the card was installed in an incorrect slot, or the power was connected backwards. Whatever the case may be, we will gladly provide you with a replacement card at no cost to you.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your valuable feedback. We value all positive and negative feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple cheap replacement for flaky onboard USB 3.0

Pros: Preferred NEC chipset, works great

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I wasted hours trying to get the Etron USB 3.0 controller on my Asrock MB to work before a Google search told me most people had problems with Seagate and WD external drives. No one reported problems with the NEC chipset most pci-e controllers use. Other reviewers here claim that many users find the NEC chip flaky but I never came across that feedback.

So I bit the bullet and spent money on this card. Works like a charm.

Two points:

1) I tested this with a Seagate external drive that has its own power source and didn't think to plug in the psu. Worked fine. If you do want to insure that your peripheral has enough power, use the *floppy* power connector included on most psu's. The card's manual is not clear about this.

2) You *must* install the driver before installing the card. If you do once you restart the pc Windows finds the driver automatically and you're in business. I don't think the manual makes this clear.

1 out of 5 eggsWORTHLESS!

Pros: NONE! I've tried every driver out there. The internet is loaded with complaints about these Renesas ( NEC ) based controllers. ALL have problems, intermittent disconnects, disappearing from device manager and not coming back. Even the manufacturers that use this chipset are stumped.
DON"T BUY THIS JUNK! Its not even worth returning......

I gave it 1 star because you can't give it 0!

Cons: TOTALLY USELESS!!!

Other Thoughts: Renesas should be held accountable for this. maybe a class action lawsuit would stimulate a fix.....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry that to hear of your difficulties with this card. We do not recommend downloading drivers from random sites. If you are looking for a driver for one of our products, you can visit our site, or contact us for further assistance.

Dropping issues can be caused by poor installation into a PCI slot. We suggest you make sure the card is firmly inserted and attached with its mounting bracket.

Please feel free to contact us if you require further assistance. Our support team will kindly assist you in getting this card working again.

Thank you for purchasing one of our USB 3.0 cards. We value all positive and negative feedback. Our business depends on your satisfaction.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: works good, reasonably fast good speed now that I have a driver that works...

Cons: DRIVERS!!!!! The included software installs the drivers to the the Program Files menu?? The device never recognized the drivers even when I pointed the device to them. Downloaded drivers from SYBA's site, same thing, unrecognized. Move card to another slot after deleting the drivers and the reinstalled. Still didn't work. Finally i found the RENESAS driver software on the Intel site and that worked for me! I'll be careful what brand I buy next time!

1 out of 5 eggsPay more for a better card

Pros: None

Cons: Won't work with some systems. Driver installs ok but won't let you use the usb 3.0. When plugging up a usb 3.0 device will give you the balloon message device will preform better if plugged up to a high speed usb 3.0 port. Researched product and there are lots of people having issues with this product. In order to make it work you have to disable PCI-E Spread spectrum in the bios but in my case option is not available. Gonna build a new computer soon so not worries will get usb 3.0 on the motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

Make sure you have the on board power feed connected to a power souce (4-pin floppy power will do).
The power is required for many USB 3.0 devices especially those USB 3.0 memory/storage devices. They comsume alot of power.

Please check our website from time to time for the newest driver update. The new driver will fix many issues.

We are more than willing to provide all of our customers with prompt exchanges whenever a product becomes defective.

SYBA offers an on-line RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

1 out of 5 eggsOnly worked in safe mode

Pros: Cheap, USB3, latest drivers on manufacturer website.

Cons: I could only get it to work in safe mode (windows 7 64 bits).

Other Thoughts: Must install drivers before installing the card itself. Did not work for me, windows 7 would hang (black screen) and not complete the boot up. Maybe a conflict with my motherboard (Asus M2N-E) or Graphic card (Asus EN8800 GTS 512). I replaced it with another brand...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing our Syba products. We are sorry to hear that the product has stopped functioning as it should be. 4 out of 5 eggsWorks for me.

Pros: It works very well.

Cons: Terribly written manual.

Other Thoughts: Almost sent this card back. But discovered there were three things that was keeping it from working properly. 1) I had not reinstalled Windows Xp in over 3 years so my os was pretty trashed. 2) Installing the latest Nec driver. 3) And this is a big one. If you are running a Western Digital USB 3.0 drive, download and install the latest SES driver.

Since I got it working I have added another drive made from a Rosewill case and a WD sata drive. Both units transfer data to one another very fast, about 4gb a minute.

1 out of 5 eggsDied within 60 days

Pros: None known.

Cons: This card came without an extension cable. The software installation instructions were inaccurate. It worked well for 2 weeks then went rogue. Now it will not work.

Other Thoughts: The memory I bought worked well. I will probably avoid buying cards online in future.

5 out of 5 eggsCuts backup times substantially

Pros: Full-system backups and validations are much faster with our new USB 3.0 drive and this card. Probably about twice as fast (yeah, some credit can go to the drive too). That means I get to go home sooner, and the card's probably already paid for itself by letting me clock out sooner.

Cons: No cons to report. Just make sure your system has a vacant PCI-E slot.

Other Thoughts: I'll take an NEC or Texas Instruments chipset over the second-tier brands.
